I am a wife, and a mother of three. I am a college student, a gas station attendant, an occasional singer, a goof ball. 1
Life is good. I love my family, I love my job, I love my friends. But sometimes I get restless. I want something more. I want to live a life worth remembering. I want to experience something exceptional. 2
But how can I do all the things I long for, and still fulfill my obligations? Can't I just freeze time? (And have a couple million dollars, please?) I want to travel to remote parts of the world and see what there is to see. I want to experience culture, diversity. 3
I want to sing in a band, let my voice ring over the crowd, feel the satisfaction of their adoration.4
I want to join the peace core. I want to build a well side by side with the natives of some far away tribe. I want to dance to their music, watch the children play without the complication of t.v and electronics. True imagination restored! Is this a place without corruption? 5
I want to see the world through the eyes of a brilliant psycologist. Why do people do the things they do? I want to ask Hannibal Lecter: "why fava beans?"6
But at the same time, I cannot imagine my life ever being complete and fulfilled without my fascinating and adorable children. Raising them gives me a satisfaction I know can't be attained anywhere else. 7
So perhaps I'd like to lead two lives. One where I am here for my children, laugh with friends, read great books, go to college, share companionship with my husband... and one where I do the extraordinary. 8
Because I know I can't do a complete job of both.9

A nice read with truth amongst it all. I think we all have these dreams, the 'what if I was' dream, so we all lead two lives I guess, one being reality, and the other 'what if'. You are right we can't have two lives at once, though dreaming about it can't hurt. Good work.

Wow
Who is this lady that worries about the limits of her ability? I'm sure you can (and will) be both people and do/take it all, with completeness and style. (Your that kind of guy Ms 957 (Sarah if I may)) - Thank you ----- You are almost there! 'It' is just around the next bend --- http://www.au6.com/wattle/highway1.html (and on the other side of the road)

Thank you very much for your comment on my poem. I really liked this piece of work, it was very interesting and the reader gets drawn in from the beginning. The reader can tell that you didn't get bored with it halfway through and give up. Your emotions and longing come across very well.

This is a great write which i really enjoyed reading. Well done and good luck!

You have an ambitious aim and may you be able to balance both your aspirations to the fullest..you already are doing so many things that one more is not going to be impossible..impossible anyway is I M Possible..Shubs

If you dream it , you can do it
It does sound as if for the most part you are pretty satisfied with your present life....the future may bring some of your aspirations into reality....and if I may suggest one thing???? There are a few typos in the write , so spellcheck might do the trick
Wishing you the best of luck in the contest , keep your dreams alive and never give up on the possibilities,
Reenie

WOW, this is amazing. I quite often get restless like this too, but at least you know what you would do if you could do it. I have no idea what I want, I just want something different, something magical. But there is this awesome song that I really love, and it goes....
I'll probably never hold a brush that paints a masterpeice
Probably never find a pen that writes a symphony
But if I will love then I will find
That I have touched another life
And that's something
Something worth leaving behind

Sounds like you have it pretty well figured out to me. It will all come to you in some form or fashion. Maybe not exactly as you have dreamed but it will come. When you write down your wants they become goals. Best of luck on your journey.
-
The first step in achieving your goals is to set them. Write them down and then start working on a plan to make them come true. There are a number of ways to from Point A to Point B. Travel a goal? Start saving and figure out where you want to go. Having a family can curtail some objectives, but that doesn't make them impossible--maybe just not possible right now. Some dreams you may have to give up on because of other choices you have made. That's okay though. You'll find others to take their place. One thing I noted in your essay though that really took me aback was near the very end. Perhaps it is me reading into things, but the fact you used "companionship" and "husband" in the same sentence was a bit unsettling. I hope that things sort themselves out for you...

Shanna,
Great idea! Just one problem.... I can't write short stories!
That requires patience with one thing for a long time.
Have you ever known me to pay attention to ANYTHING for a long time? It's very sweet of you to suggest it might be possible though

Sounds like you should become an author and live out your fantasy life in a world with no restrictions You could be whoever or whatever you wanted, be rich or poor, live any place you pleased, and have as many meaningless relationships as you could handle. Then when you were done you could return to reality, hug your kids, try to pay a few bills and wait for the money to roll in from the book sales.
