"Me too," Sara smiled, brushing Alison's soft blonde locks back as she touched her cheek. "I think that he, or she, is going to be just as strong as you are." She kissed Alison's forehead.2
A slight blush passed over Alison's cheeks as she moved her hand to her stomach. "Sara I... we really need to talk about... about what we're going to do when..." She stopped beside their car and leaned against it. "Well... I... I've been giving it a lot of thought and..." Alison took in a deep breath and looked up, meeting Sara's concerned brown eyes. 3
"The more I think about it the more I... this baby is a living person, a person that's a part of me." She looked down and then back up. "I... I’m terrified but… I don't want to give it up. I... the idea of sending an innocent baby into some home where... where someone could adopt it and abuse it is..." Tears slipped down her cheeks as she shook her head. "Sara, I can't... I can't do that. I can't take a chance on... What if he or she, ended up in a home where the parents were abusive or... or they weren't..." 4
Alison moved her hand to her forehead, rubbing it. "I grew up in a bad home myself and... I wouldn't wish that on any kid. I had a father who tried to rape me, and a mother who just up and ran off, leaving me with my abusive dad." Looking up again, she sighed. "I know raising a baby is hard and I... I know there are days I would be scared and feel lost but... I've thought about this all day and... I really think I want to keep it. I know I wouldn't be the best parent but..." She smiled, looking up to Sara with hopeful eyes. "I was kind of hoping you would be there to help me.” 5
Sara smiled; tears coming in her eyes from listening to Alison speak. "Oh Alison, you have no idea how much I admire you right here, in this moment." She leaned forward, kissing the tip of Alison's nose. She moved her hand to Alison's stomach, rubbing her tummy through her clothes. "And you know what; I think this baby would love to have two mommies, don't you?" 6
"I think that it would." Alison smiled, tears coming in her eyes when she met Sara's. She moved her hand on top of Sara's, which still rested comfortably on her stomach. "I never... I never even wanted kids but... I can't change the fact that I'm pregnant and I... I can't erase what happened." She exhaled and then drew in another deep breath. "And I think it's high time I took control of my life again, don't you?"7
"Oh baby, you've already taken control of your life." Sara took Alison's hand and softly kissed it. "I never really wanted kids either but..." She moved her hand over Alison's stomach. "Seeing as my beautiful girlfriend is going to have one, I better get use to changing diapers, huh?" She giggled, smiling at Alison. "You know, I don't think changing diapers will be so bad. Then again..." She made a face. "Maybe this mommy can opt out of diaper duty?" Laughing, she pulled Alison in close to her.8
Alison laughed. "Awww come on, I think you could be the diaper queen!" Giggling, she wrapped her arms around Sara's neck. 9
"Diaper queen?" Sara laughed even harder as she wrinkled up her nose. "Somehow I don't find that title too appealing. Come on, I think I should take you home and pamper you senseless." She grinned as she stepped over and opened the door for Alison.10
"Mmmm I like the idea of being pampered." Alison smiled as she sat down in the car. "Maybe you could give me one of those incredibly relaxing massages of yours?" 11
"Oh I can do that, and so much more." Sara flashed a seductive grin as she leaned down and kissed Alison. "Maybe I could..." Sara's words were interrupted when her mobile phone started to ring. She stood up, pulling it from her back pocket. Her face completely drained of color when she answered it. "Oh my god... wh... where?" Sara paused, swallowing the lump that formed in her throat. "I... I'll be there in just a few minutes. Thank you." Sara hung up the phone as she stood before Alison in shock.12
Alison immediately jumped up from the seat and touched Sara's arm. "Sara, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Her frightened blue eyes scanned Sara's for clues.13
"I... that was... hospital in... in... Essex they... they... Selene and Luke were..." Sara pushed her hair back as she looked at Alison with a blank expression. "There was an accident and... I need... to... get there."14
"Oh god..." Alison wrapped her arms tightly around Sara in a comforting hug. She then held her hand out to Sara. "Give me the keys. I know this is your car but there is no way in hell I am letting you drive with the way you're talking." 15
Sara nodded her head and handed Alison the keys. Alison closed the door when Sara got into the passenger side and then rushed over to the driver’s side door. After getting inside herself she sped from the London hospital parking lot and headed towards Essex.16

Carina fluttered her eyes open when the memory of being chased startled her awake. She looked up at the ceiling, details of the wreck flooding into her mind. Closing her eyes once more, she started to cry. The nurse had given her a sedative so that she could rest but it wore off quickly. Glancing towards the door she saw the two officers still outside.18
She looked towards the windows, realizing it was now dark outside. Her arm ached something fierce. She had been to out of it earlier to even notice how much pain she was in. Moving the arm slowly, she tried to get up from the bed. The officers saw her and rushed into the room. 19
"Ms. Tyler, I'm afraid we need to have a word with you." The officer gave her a stern look as he tried to make her stay in bed.20
Carina looked from one officer to the other and then towards a nurse who scrambled into the room. "Officers, please. This woman just went through a horrific ordeal. She needs to rest; you can talk with her in the morning."21
"Nurse, we understand but when two of our own is injured we..." 22
"Like I said, you can come back in the morning. Can't you see she isn't even in a clear state of mind right now?" The nurse waved her arms, gesturing towards the trembling blonde woman.23
Carina pulled the cover on the bed tight around her as she looked from the nurse to the officers. She yelped in pain when she moved her badly bruised arm. The officers took another look at her and then turned, pulling the nurse a few feet away and whispering to her. After a few moments, of what appeared to be an argument, the both of them walked out the door and the nurse returned to Carina's side.24
The nurse smiled as she reached up and pulled down a blood pressure cuff, wrapping it around Carina's arm. "I'm sorry about that. I had told them earlier they should come back in the morning. Tonight, there is no way you need to be exerting yourself like that."25
"Thanks." Carina gave a weak smile as she turned her head towards the window. After several long moments, she glanced to the nurse. "The... the man and woman in the other car are... are they okay?" Tears slipped from her eyes as she swallowed hard. "Please, give me some good news."26
Sighing, the nurse sat down on the bedside and shook her head. "I'm sorry but I'm afraid I can’t really say much, patient confidentiality laws."27
"I… but… at least tell me if they’re okay, please!” Carina’s blue eyes filled with tears as she pleaded with the nurse.28
“I…” The nurse looked down, aware that she shouldn’t say anything. “I can only tell you that… they’re both in critical condition. I can’t give you any details. I’m sorry.”29
“Oh god," Carina pulled her knees up against her chest as she cried. "I... I didn't mean for it to happen." She looked up at the nurse with tear filled eyes. "It... it all happened so fast and..."30
"It's okay; you don't have to talk about this tonight." The nurse removed the cuff and laid her hand on Carina's. "Maybe I can get you something else to help you sleep?"31
Carina shook her head, her tangled mess of hair clinging to her face. "No. No, I don't want to sleep. I... I just want to be alone. Please..." Her voice trailed off as she looked up at the nurse.32
"Okay, but if you need anything just hit that button right over there. I'll be here all night." The nurse fluffed her pillow up and then exited the room.33
Carina watched as the nurse pulled the door closed behind her. Once she saw she was out of sight she slowly stood up, easing herself out of the bed. She held her side as she made her way into the tiny bathroom and flipped on the light. Tears dripped down her cheeks as she stood, looking at her broken reflection.34
Her pretty blonde hair had streaks of dirt, and blood mixed in it. Strands of gold, plastered to the side of her head where she had soaked her pillow with tears. She moved her hand, touching the bruise that had came up under her now swollen eye. Her shirt was covered in blood and she wished she had a change of clothes. She knew they would never let her leave the hospital though. Not when the police had still yet to talk to her about the accident. Her only choice was a hospital gown. She pulled down a wash cloth and ran the cool water over it. Leaning back, she rubbed it on her face, trying to come to terms with everything that had happened.35
**********************36
Selene woke up with a pounding headache. She gasped for breath as a sudden burst of air entered her lungs. Desperately, she tried to sit up in the bed so that she could breathe. Her chest felt as if someone was crushing it and every bone in her body ached with excruciating pain. She looked around the room, realizing where she was when the sudden realization hit her.37
"Luke!" Selene cried out as tears dripped down her cheeks. The blood pressure monitor, which was hooked to her, skyrocketed. Her heart rate quickly rose as she tried to get the machines unhooked.38
A nurse rushed through the door with a doctor in tow. "Ms. LeVox, please! You shouldn't be getting so upset. Your blood pressure is..."39
Selene glared at the nurse, interrupting her. "I don't care about my damn blood pressure! I... I need to see Luke. Please! Take me to him I... I have to see him." Selene jerked away when the doctor grabbed her arm. "Get your hands off of me!" Selene cried out in pain when a splitting jolt shot through her head.40
"Calm down and I will! You suffered a serious head injury. You can't just get up and run around the hospital as you please." The doctor pulled out a needle and started to stick Selene with it.41
"Don't you even think about it! Do you have any idea who I am? And there is no way that I am allowing you to keep me drugged up.” Selene shot the doctor a hateful glare as she jerked away. “Please, just answer my question, where is Luke?"42
"Ms. LeVox, I'm afraid..." The doctor paused, bending down he took Selene's hand. "Luke is... I'm so sorry to be the one who has to break this to you. I don't know of any better way to say it he... Luke is in a coma."43
"Wh... wh... what?? N... N... No! You can't be... you can't be serious he..." Tears flowed in a steady stream from Selene's deep brown eyes as she frantically shook her tangled hair. "I... no... this... it's all just... it's a bad dream that... that's all, a very bad dream."44
The nurse looked up to the doctor before sitting down on the edge of Selene's bed. "I'm so sorry. I... I wish we could have given you better news." The nurse took her other hand and squeezed it tight.45
"Please I... please I have to see him. Please!" Selene looked at the nurse with pleading eyes. "I... Oh god… how can this even be happening?" Tears poured from her sad eyes as she struggled to hold her hands steady. She then turned to the doctor, awaiting an answer. 46
The doctor looked up at the monitor. Selene's heart rate was still speeding out of control. He knew by denying her to see Luke it would only make it worse. "Alright, but you're not walking out of here. Selene, you suffered a very serious head injury, which is what, caused you to pass out. I need you to please, try and calm down." He placed his hand on her back and looked at the nurse. "Can you please go get Ms. LeVox a wheelchair?"47
"Yes doctor." The nurse released Selene's hand and quickly exited the room. It only took her a few moments to return with a wheelchair. She put one hand around Selene's back and helped her to sit down in it. 48
Selene swallowed hard as she looked up at the nurse, and then the doctor, "Thank you." She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as the nurse wheeled her down the hall to Luke's room. When the movement of the chair stopped, she wasn't prepared for what she saw. 49
The moment her eyes lay on Luke, helplessly in bed, she lost all words. Luke had several machines hooked up to him. Strange sounding beeps filled the entire room from the blood pressure and heart rate monitors. A breathing mask was placed securely over his face to supply him with oxygen. Right now, it seemed, the machines were all that was keeping him alive. Various iv's were hooked up to him. He had lost a severe amount of blood and tubes were still providing him with more. Selene turned to the nurse, tears dripping down her pale cheeks. "Can I... is it okay if... I need... I need to be alone right now."50
"I understand." The nurse pushed Selene beside Luke's bed and then kneeled in front of her. "If you need anything, push that button right there." She pointed to a large red button just above the small table. "And Ms. LeVox, like the doctor said, you suffered a severe head injury. Please, do not get up from this chair, okay?" She held her hands as she spoke.51
Selene nodded her head in agreement and then turned to Luke. The nurse rubbed her hand over her back and then left the room, closing the door behind her. Gently, Selene placed her hand on Luke's forearm as her tears turned into erratic sobs. Her small hand trembled as she moved it to his cheek. "Oh... swe.. sweetie." She tried to speak, but her words came out in a hoarse croak. Tears dripped endlessly from her cheeks and on to his battered arms.52
"Luke I... Oh sweetheart I... I know you can hear me." She paused, swallowing hard as she tried to speak clearly. "Please... baby, hang in there. You... You... You can't leave me we... We have so much... ahead of us and..." Her words were forgotten as she completely broke down in tears. Selene dropped her head, clinging tight to Luke's hand as she cried.
