The Trouble with being Nocturnal

"Sorry" Beth burst out, running back in the door. "I had to tell the guys goodbye." She plopped onto her desk chair and sighed. "I'd call that an eventful day." Beth rubbed her head with her fingers, fussing over a strand of hair that wouldn't tuck behind her ear.1

Kitra smiled, sinking into her own chair. The pair of girls just stared into nothingness for a moment, appreciating the silence after the chaos of a few minutes ago. Beth glanced at the clock. It was getting late, nearly eight PM. The campus cafeteria was already closed: too late to make an appearance for propriety's sake. Although, Kitra, it seemed, would be unable to make much of a show at the mess hall.2

"I would never have imagined," Liz laughed, leaning back on the back legs of the chair, propping her legs on the desk. She grabbed a text book, leafing through it absently. "This sorta makes all of my classes seem mundane." Kitra made no comment, apparently engrossed in her laptop. "I'm still using you for my history reports," Beth warned, tossing the book aside.3

"And now I'm not tired," Elizabeth groaned, covering her face with her hands. "And you don't even need sleep," she flailed at Kitra, who chuckled. Beth growled in her throat, but smiled to show she wasn't really angry.4

"We could go check out the night life around here," Beth offered. "There is bound to be a few kids around as nocturnal as we are. What do you say?"
