I walk down the halls alone, unnoticed. Nobody turns their heads and rushes over to help me when I drop my books. Nobody compliments my clothes and jewelry, not like I mind. I don’t wear those overly- popular brands like Aeropostale and Hollister, but I do not wear Walmart. I am pretty, even though nobody bothers to acknowledge it. I am friendless, not cool enough for the girls here. I’m smart, something that isn’t valued anymore. I’m not super-skinny, but I’m not obese, not even close. 1
Do I remind you of someone? Probably. There’s one of me in every school. We’re the unpopulars. We don’t have boyfriends that we brag about; some of us have never even had a crush. We don’t go around to every mall in the state with our friends, carrying ten shopping bags and talking loudly about how much we just spent and about how daddy will pay for it all. We’re so different. I don’t know about all of unpopular girls in the world, but I am so proud.2
Yes, you heard me right. I’m so proud not to starve myself so the boys will look my way. I’m proud not to waste thousands of dollars on hair, makeup, and clothes, money that could be used to pay bills or be donated to charity, people who actually need it. I am so glad to not be so selfish, to only care about myself. I’d rather have no friends than fake friends that hang around with me just for the status of “popular”.3
I love these things about me. Being a Shadow Girl is so much better than being a Popular Girl. Walking alone is a small price to pay for not being like them. And one day soon, I will teach them to how horrible they are, and how they should wake up to the real world.4
But until then, I will just be another Shadow Girl, useless and stupid in their eyes.5

Great job on this!!! I love stories like this!! It's very true.
Plot: 4
Language: 3
Theme: 5
Total: 12
As horrible as it is to not have friends, I'd rather be a "shadow girl" than be someone I'm not. -
That was awesome!! I finally have a title. Execpt that i do have a few friends. I liked it because it's tru about alot of people. Myabe not exactly but it's tru for most of us on this site. Props for the name.

I love that you took the subject of "popular girls" and changed it so it's more positive (the preppy anorexic shopaholics are ridiculously overrated anyway *grin). I especially love the name you gave the girls on the fringe--"Shadow Girl." It sounds like a superhero or something! More empowerment to the real girls...

I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble reading your entry with it's red-colored font. I cannot fully judge it until you change the font to be more readable. From what I could read, it seems like a good story, and it would be a shame to lose because of the font color.

I'm really sorry about that! I changed it! Please LMK if it's still unreadable... I'm pretty clueless as far as choosing font colors goes...
