Flicker

i dream.1

a boy
dancing in a storm
i want him to come away
from that lamppost.
you could get struck by lightning!
i tell him.2

he is laughing at me
with his eyes
and his hair is slicked back by the
rain.3

and he is telling me something i
cannot hear over the
thunder.4

i want him to come away from the lamppost
i want him to come away5

i want him.6

~~~
i am walking down the street
and boyfriend is holding my hand and
smiling prettily7
he says something sweet but i
don’t hear him,
i can’t.8
because i am somewhat tired
and something faint, like an old
memory, nags at the
back of my mind.9
and i realize as he leans into me that i am10
lonely.11
above our heads a
lamppost flickers12
and i wonder if it is going to
rain.13
    Vivid. Visceral.
    While this poem is very minimalist in terms of language and style, such lucid images come by simple words such as "i want him to come away" or "he is laughing at me with his eyes". Great ending lines.
      But of course it wouldn't be quite as good without your help. Thank you, Sensei. *bows*
