Live on Love (short story)

She rushed to the room where he lays, the mangled body of what was her world. The lacerations and brusies covered his legs and his face, she wasn't even sure it was him. His eyes squeezed and opened.1

"Hey, how are you feeling?" she said, unsure of what else she could. He raised his hand and grabbed hers.2

"I couldn't be better," his voice harsh and raspy having the tubes removed not five minutes earlier. A smile creeped acrossed his face,"this bed is big enough for two" he squirmed over to the edge and offered her a spot, which she took with uncertainity as to his health. 3

He wrapped his arm around her, his IV getting caught in her hair. She clung to his hand and felt his pulse slowing. A lump developed in her throat that she couldn't swallow down, no matter how she tried. She knew what was coming.4

"Thanks for not listening to me" he choked out. Their relationship had been failing and he screamed at her, just the day earlier, to never show her face around him again.5

"You know I've never been one to obey you," she let out a slight laugh followed by an immediate feeling of sorrow. Her time with him could very well be short lived. she put his hand closer to her heart and began to soothingly rub his arm. "I love you" she said. His pulse began to increase and get stronger. He opened his mouth but couldn't say anything. "I know" she put her hand up and closed his mouth.
