Midnight Song Chapter One

Midnight Song ~ Chapter One1

Moonlight2

The night had just begun. The moon slowly rising. Striker pawed at the ground impatiently. “Relax Striker.” An old wolf said to him. “I‘m trying Rusty.” he said to the old wolf. Rusty was one of the elders of ShadowPaw Clan, he sensed that Striker was impatience and nervous as the moon hung high in the sky now. It was Striker’s first full moon as ShadowPaw’s leader. “I must go now.” he said to Rusty, who nodded at him. Striker traveled down a small slope and met his siblings. “Blaze, Enzi ready?” he said to his brother and sister. The nodded and began walking calmly to ShadowPaw’s border.3

Striker let out a sigh and sat down his siblings flanking him. He waiting in the glowing light as Stone walked from the shadows and sat across from him. Stone was a big wolf for his age he was very muscular and he looked pretty strong. His sister Coal sat on his left her fur was jet black and her eyes shown like yellow gems sparkling in the moonlight. On his right sat another female. This was not a relative. She was a young she-wolf her coat was white and her fierce green eyes looked up at Stone. Stone looked at her then at Striker. Stone sat down his grey fur glowed silver under the moon. Coal and the other she-wolf did the same. 4

“Good evening.” Stone said to Striker. Who nodded his head. “This is my sister Coal. and my mate Aurora.” Stone said looking at his mate. “This is my sister Enzi and my brother Blaze.” Striker said to him. He was surprised that Stone brought his mate. Striker felt a pang of jealousy for he had not found a mate of his own yet. Stone nodded to them. A large cloud moved over the moon. Striker shivered, he heard rumors that Stone was planning on turning on ShadowPaw Clan, Striker didn’t believe the rumors but he was still worried. The cloud moved and the moon shown again, lighting up the forest once more. And for the first time Striker noticed Coal, Her black fur was shining in the night and her eyes sparkled. She looked at him the same way as if they were the only two wolves in the forest.5

The meeting dragged on, Striker and Stone mostly talked about the hunting an how it was quite plentiful. Striker and Stone formed a friendship that night. When the moon was starting to get low in the sky Stone decided it was time for them to go back to there dens for the night, Striker watched Coal leave and he didn’t take his eyes off of her until she disappeared into the brush.6

Striker returned to his den and sat alone with his head on his paws. Rusty, the elder wolf stepped into the den. “Striker, are you still awake?” the old wolf asked. Striker lifted his head and met Rusty’s eyes. “How did the meeting go?” Rusty asked as he walked over and sat next to him. “It went… well. But there‘s a problem.” he said sadly as his mind drifted back to Coal. he could she her sleek black fur and her amber eyes so clearly in his mind it was like she was right in front of him. He sighed and sat up and looked at Rusty. “What‘s wrong Striker?” he asked feeling concerned. “Everything went fine. Stone and I are friends and I met him mate, Aurora” he sighed “And his sister, Coal…” Rusty seemed confused now. “So then what went wrong?” Striker looked at Rusty with sad eyes. “I… Coal, Well I like her a lot and I…” Rusty cut him short. “Striker, you know that it is forbidden.”7

Rusty was right, There has never been breeding between the two clans. It is forbidden. Clan blood is not to be mixed. “I know Rusty.” He said sadly. Rusty looked at him. “Do you know what happens when Clan blood is mixed?” he asked Striker. “No.” Striker was looking down at the ground afraid to look into Rusty’s eyes. "They die. Once, many seasons ago a young she-wolf of ShadowPaw and a young male from StarFire fell in love. They had three pups of there own. all were born with blood red eyes. they turned savage and killed there parents. they died shortly after they murdered their parents." Striker looked at him with horrified eyes. "Clan blood is NOT to be mixed." Rusty said sharply and then turned and left the den. 8

Striker shivered, and padded slowly to the back of his den. He laid his head down on hit paws, his belly was pressed against the cold den floor. He looked sadly out his den entrance. He felt lonely in his large den. "Stone's probably curled up next to his mate." Striker thought bitterly. He shut his eyes and drifted off to sleep. 9

In his dreams he was with Coal in his den and sleeping beside her belly was three beautiful pups one was black like her, another was black with a gray under belly and the last was a very light gray with a little black strip on his muzzle. Suddenly the light gray pup stirred and looked up at Striker. He jumped back and his muscles tensed. The pup had blood red eyes.

Very well written! Though it lacked some color and variance, it was on the whole solid and well thought out. I look forward to reading more!
