More Reasons For War

Religion! Oh my... where do I START?! Ok, there is a LONG list of religions... how am I to find one to believe in? What I would like to know is how they all seem to think that THEIR religion is the ONLY one you could possibly believe in. They all come with books, speakers, and completely devoted believers who try so hard to sell the religion. But where did all this COME from? How am I supposed to believe that this book was written to SAVE me. That someone created me, and made me imperfect and gave me the choice to choose my life path, but also went and wrote a book for me, and if I DON'T follow the book or BELIEVE in the book I am condemned to hell? Where did this come from? This fear that so many seem to have... I wish they would believe in MY religion.1

My I'm-alive-and-that's-all-I-care-about religion.2

Ahhhhhm yes, the death questions... they get to me too. I always ask why 'god' put us here. Why he made some of us so screwed up and why he allows some of us to die from causes such as diseases (Which he could stop) Murder (Which he could stop) and/or Accidents (Which AGAIN he could stop. People always say that he made us imperfect so that WE could choose our life... but we can't can we? We can't choose whether or not someone will kill us, we can't choose whether or not our life was worth all the work... we can't choose if the economy will crash or if we'll all end up dying in the end. What DO we choose? Nothing. Plus, how the heck would they KNOW why he made us? Again... are they just following this book they believe in so strongly? THEN there is the fact that he creates us (Says religion believers but not scientists. I'm sensing a contradiction!), only to force us to die. WHY do we have to die? What is the point of living and working ourselves into death if we have no time for rest? They say rest is in Heaven... but they also say that we are here to be tested, to see if we will be loyal to god. BUT what is there that we need to be loyal to god for, in heaven? Am I sensing MORE work? AND one last thing... why is there a hell if all sins are forgiven? "We are all god's children" so why would he condemn us to hell? Why would he ALLOW us to end up in a place like this? There are so many reasons to NOT believe in god, so many reasons to disregard the topic all together, yet here I am, searching for a reason to believe other than 'good-things-happen'.3

AND Science... don't even get me started on SCIENCE! Who's to say that this line of numbers is the "Formula" to this, that, or the other thing? Religion and science CONSTANTLY contradict each other. I actually HAVE thought all of this through many times, I believe in a 'god' but I don't know which one. I believe he has spoken, just not to me, and not through a book. I believe most science is correct, and I believe there are ways put science and religion together. For example, I believe 'god' made animals, including monkeys, which then EVOLVED into humans. But then again, if you ask me, religion and science were both made up to make the human race have something to fight over. Another reason to start wars... like we need one of those.

this is quite deep. i agree with almost everything you say. you make some wonderful points... and now im going to do exactly what your article says not to do and try to sell you my religion. Unitarian Universalism. it pretty much just says that you can believe anything you want to as long as you don't hurt anyone.

I don't mind people explaining their religion, I'm VERY open minded because I don't quite have any beliefs. I think it's healthy to have a religion and that religion and science are also a way of balancing people's emotions on either subject. The only thing I do NOT like is when people go out of their way to shove a pamphlet in your face and tell you that you MUST join their religion or you will not be saved.

Hmmmmm. It was very opinionated, which is good in a religion piece. More facts would have been nice, and perhaps a bit more swaying in your favor, but overall it is brilliantly written.

  • Especially stupid is how science and religion constantly seem to contradict each other, yet religious zealots and adamant scientists always think they're right. I think if you add something about that, you could get to daftweejimmy's word minimum.

You're an excellent writer and you made several great points. Great job on this, and good luck in that contest!

    Nice one.....

That was a very good rant, with all sorts of perinent questions and far too many assumptions. I'm assuming, since you are 15, you are aware that God didn't create imperfection, mankind did, and that the real problem in the world is not religion but free will, and those who misinterpret both, hence the wars we indulge in.

I see you have only written 400 words. This is too good a piece for me to disqualify on the basis of it being too short, and you seem to have a lot more to say. In which case, have another look at this and expand it a little, and perhaps consider what free will does to the mixture; you must have a view on that, I would reckon
