Many creatures have been studied, and their characteristics have been put down into words, thus being made known to everyone in mankind. However, I have recently studied a creature extensively, one so rare that only a handful have been recorded in history: the half-dragon.1
Dragon Reproduction Theories2
Through reading texts by monks in the Middle Ages, Dragons have been known to reproduce with any creature, and several theories have came to light; it could be due to their magical nature, something genetic in their body can cause their reproductive product to change it’s coding to suit the host, or maybe it could just exist within any creature.3
Child Biology4
The only recorded half-dragons have been with humans, and the resulting child has been a near perfect hybrid. They retain the shape of a human, same characteristics, personalities, and flexibility of a person. However, the gain features of their other parent; Most gain their eyes, a more draconic skeletal structure, with longer, toned features, fang-like teeth, and if related to a powerful or royal dragon, can grow a tail later in life. They have the ability to channel magic that surpasses even draconic scholars, yet cannot surpass a full-blooded dragon. They have increased strength and agility than a humans, but also have an increased level of aggression. They also subconsciously mature faster; they can have feelings that would normally be experienced by a teenager or adult, while still retaining the personality and interests of someone their age. This makes it more common for a half-dragon to feel sexual or truly love someone at the age of 8-10 years.5
Although the genetic makeup in the child work out, since their body contains two blood types, the human system kicks in and attacks the dragon blood, which can cause the half-dragon immense pain. This has recently been found as the child grows, where the human body changes to suit the dragon blood. In an Excerpt from A Draconic History, it gives an insight into this:6
”In our lives and as we mature, our bodies change and adapt to our environment, however, in the child of a union between a dragon and another species, the host species body changes to adapt to the other blood, changing skeletal, mental and muscle structures”7
This gives the child a more aerodynamic and powerful body, and the draconic instincts come into play, enhancing the five senses dramatically.8
Magical Ability9
As rare as it is in Dragons to shift form, half-dragons have been known to shift into a dragon form, which is much smaller than that of a normal dragon. If powerful enough, they can change into another form which maintains the versatility of a human body, and the power of a dragon body. This is known as a ‘hybrid’ form, and it looks like a dragon with a more human skeleton, giving the dragon the ability to stand on two feet and wield human objects in two of it’s claws. At a young age, the child may have difficulty controlling this ability, sapping their energy rather quickly, unless they remain in that form for a lengthy amount of time. Dragon’s blood also contains potent magical ability; many people have tried to extract this power from Dragons and half-dragons alike. However, a dragon’s blood can only be extracted in it’s normal for by a vampire drinking it, thanks to their venom, but it’s magic ability does not affect the vampire in any way. If extracted by any other way, the blood basically destroys itself and changes to a very powerful poison, which if put into a living creature, gives them 20-30 seconds to receive an antidote, before their blood vessels explode and heart gains extensive ‘tears’ in it.10
Magical Element11
As some people know, most dragons can master one element, which is told from the colouring in their scales. Normally, dragons would inherit one of their parent’s elements, but research has found that humans too represent a few elements (which generally grow to be sorcerers) and this changes the balance, as the two genetics can give the child two or even three elements to control in some cases. However, their control over their elements are nowhere near as strong as a full blooded dragon, although there have been rumours that if they gain help from their parent or allow their bodies to become more draconic, they can rival full grown dragons.12
Sexual Aging13
If half-human, when puberty sets in, the dragon hormones have become infused with the human ones. Dragons in history have been known as highly sexual creatures, usually mating to give as much pleasure as possible to their partners. During puberty, the child can find themselves aroused very easily, and, if they find a partner, they can have protective tendencies to the point that they stalk them. Due to their protective nature, they can get extremely jealous and aggressive of anyone approaching their partner of the opposite sex. If they finally engage in sexual activities with their partner, the stimulus can change them to a state where they work entirely off dragon instinct, which can put they partner in danger as they can grow rather painful from their movements.14
Anger Issues15
The dragon genetics in the child can change the size of the emotional centre in the brain, particularly the anger part in the brain. This can lead them to over-react at small problems and if pushed far enough, can go into a blind and violent rage. This anger is generally accompanied by an even larger sense of remorse, particularly towards mates, and it causes them to be willing to do anything to make the mate better. Anger also pumps the adrenaline faster into the body, making them a lot more effective during combat.16
Markings17
Due to the shunning of interspecies breeding in Dragon society, books from history have found that the Dragon elders cast a spell which caused whatever half-breed child to be born with a mark to notify this. This is normally found on the arm or torso, and generally presents itself as a modern tribal dragon tattoo. To show their affection to their mate, and to increase the bond between them, the half-dragon my imprint a bond mark on their partner after mating, which can be used to communicate over long distances, and increase the stimulus of their feelings towards each other.18
Psychology 19
Much of the half-dragons mental influences are gained by their human side, although they are also influenced by their dragon parent. Generally from instinct, half-dragons are honourable, even if they are ‘evil’. If dishonourable, their bodies blood releases a weak toxin which causes the nerve endings to experience great pain, which can last for up to half an hour. Being neither human or dragon, the child can develop an identity issue as they feel they have no true place within society. This can develop further in later years, making them depressed or anxious, especially if the child experiences bullying or discrimination. They can also feel hatred towards one or both of their parental species, possibly if the parents treated them badly or if they witness something very cruel being performed by one of the races (as dragons are highly honourable creatures).20
That is all I have been able to find on the creatures, as more time would be required to research more (such as their age) and hopefully, it will make you more aware of them.21
Author notes
This is just an info sheet thingy on my half-dragon characters. If ya want to use anything from this, could you message me and put credit for it in your story. I hope this helps understand my characters
