The six warlocks slowly began their advance, forming a wide circle around me and the tree. Bark flaked away between my agitated fingers, as I silently prayed for a little help. It didn't go unanswered.1
“Need a hand?” asked Tyson, pleased by the overall timing of his appearance. You had to hand it to the guy, he was fast. Bardock and Valance whipped around, not daring to leave their backs turned to such a foe. But Tyson was a little preoccupied with the two familiar bodies on the ground that I was sadly unable to restore.2
He made a violent retching noise in the back of his throat and quickly covered his mouth with one hand. “Oh god,” he gagged. “Is that...? Please tell me that isn't them?”3
“Look, we'll deal with that later,” I said, not daring to stare at the bodies of Ella‘s dead parents. “Right now we've got bigger problems.” I indicated firmly to our surroundings foes. I hated myself for saying such a thing out loud but deep down, I knew it was the right thing to do. Tyson meanwhile was turning a delicate shade of green as he edged further away from the corpses. He never could stand the sight of blood.4
A low rumble rose steadily from beneath the earth and Luke and Roxy quickly pushed their way through the dirt and rubble. “Whew,” she exclaimed, airing out her shirt and looking impressed. “So what'd I miss?”5
The one they called Mimi attacked without warning. “Orcara si testa!” she cried and Roxy immediately flew ten feet into the air. She screamed and howled above our heads, twisting in agony against an enemy we couldn't see. Long, deep gauge marks started raking through her flesh and heavy waves of blood began to splatter across our faces and eyes. The battle had begun.6
Caleb instantly transformed himself into a giant, three headed wolf and charged toward Roxy at a frightening pace. He leapt into the air, mouths open wide, his deadly teeth pulled into a vicious grin.7
“Nice,” commentated Adriana. “You turned yourself into a Yellow Fang.”8
The furry beast cried out in pain as a thunderbolt flew quickly through the air, sending him sprawling onto the grass. Luke was flexing his hand, staring around impressively at his stroke of luck. It didn't last.9
Divine ran forward, grabbing hold of his head and holding it firmly between her hands. “You love me, don't you?” she whispered coyly. “You'd do anything for me wouldn‘t you? To prove that?”10
“No, don't listen to her!” I yelled. “It's a trick. She's trying to hypnotize you.”11
“You know that's not true, don't you handsome?” she teased, lowering her hands to kiss him softly on the neck. “You know that you are my only love. I would never deceive you in such a manner. He’s only trying to break us apart.”12
“Somebody stop her!” I yelled, knowing full well that I didn't stand a chance. But the only ones with any form of power were already being taken care of. Roxy continued to jerk and fidget in the sky, her screams now muted into desperate pants. Valance and Tyson were locked in their own personal battle, nothing could deter their focus. One punch would be deflected, only for another to land firmly on its mark.13
“You want to win my affection, don't you?” she whispered. Luke nodded fervently, his mind completely under her seductive spell. “Then kill that boy over there,” she growled, jabbing a finger in my direction.14
I ran for it. Divine howled with laughter as bolts of electricity flew all around me, frying anything that stood in its way.15
“Come back Jake,” Luke called hollowly. “All I want to do is talk.”16
Adriana and Bardock, who were still standing in their broken circle formation laughed at our antics as I danced furiously between the trees. It really sucked not having an offensive power, especially when my own team mates were the ones trying to wipe me out.17
“Why not kill the flying girl above us first?” Adriana cackled. The giant wolf beast behind me howled in fury, hackles raised in unmistakable anger. Roxy was his playmate.18
“No,” said Luke, still following Divine's orders. “I have bigger fish to fry.”19
“Oh how positively delightful,” Adriana clapped. “My kingdom for a box of popcorn right now.”20
Bardock smirked, uttering the magical words to suit her every whim. “Acidindo refuta.” A large box of popcorn popped into Adriana's hands.21
“Buttered okay?” he laughed.22
That tiny, seemingly harmless distraction was my downfall. Luke caught hold of my left arm and sent waves of electricity coursing through my body. My eyes watered in pain and I sank to my knees, unable to see what was going on. My heart felt like it was exploding in my chest and I knew that this meant the end for me.23
“No! Jake!” Tyson's frantic words caught me before I slipped into unconsciousness. I lifted my eyelids tenderly, not wanting to strain my body in any possible way. Tyson was standing over me protectively, Luke blundering around rubbing his head and moaning in pain.24
“What the hell did you do that for?” he yelled, eyes now bloodshot.25
“You'd been hypnotized,” Tyson growled, hands balling into fists. His whole body was already covered in welts and cuts. “I was doing you a favour. Not to say that I didn't get some kind of personal enjoyment from beating the crap out of you.” Tyson turned to me, looking worried.26
“You okay man,” he asked hurriedly, Valance running into view.27
“I've seen better days,” I mumbled, relieved that my muscles were no longer hurting. “It's a good thing I can heal. I would've been toast.”28
Tyson disappeared in a flash, appearing seconds later in front of Valance, and pushing against him with all his might. The two were so evenly matched.29
“So what do we do?” Luke demanded sharply, still looking pained.30
“Do you reckon you could get Roxy down? We could really use her.”31
“I could, but if I touch her,” he replied. “I'll receive her powers instead. Wouldn‘t it be best to have as many as possible?”32
“Okay, fine,” I grumbled. “You keep the others busy and I'll find a way to get her down.” I jammed two fingers into each of my ears and started speaking as loud as I could. “Oh and I'll deal with the temptress.” Luke smirked but left without another word. Or at least, I couldn't see his lips moving anyway.33
I darted forward through the trees, dodging the chaos that was Valance and Tyson's battle. They seemed to be everywhere all at once, giant holes smashing into the ground with thunderous bangs. It felt as if I were running through a minefield. As the number of potholes and broken trees increased with every step, I understood that it was a clear indication that Valance was using as much power as he could spare, Tyson constantly keeping him on his toes.34
I looked hastily to my left, watching Luke run toward Bardock and Adriana. His movements were so fast, I barely had the chance to see them. A huge bolt of lightning flailed like a deadly snake toward Bardock, jolting through his entire body hard and fast. He fell to the ground in a matter of seconds. I couldn't tell if he was dead or not. I smiled slightly. It was a wise move on Luke's behalf. If he had of attacked Adriana first, Bardock would have left him fighting blind. At least now he stood an actual chance.35
I spotted Divine peeking out from behind a tree, a good ten yards away from where Luke was. I could just make out that her lips were moving and I realized in horror that she was trying to curse him whilst his back was turned. I ran forward, leaving Mimi standing shocked beneath her captive. I would help Roxy as soon as I had taken care of this other problem.36
I started humming as loudly as I could, own voice drowning out the surrounding battle. Divine saw me well before I was in reach and she appeared to be laughing. I knew that I must have looked ridiculous, singing with my fingers planted firmly in my ears. She started whispering under her breath once more, eyes full of malice and loathing as she spoke the curse that would surely spell my demise.37
Nothing happened. Her eyes widened incredulously and she tried again. Nothing. Not even a twinge.38
“You must fake it Jake,” said Gordon hastily, popping into my thoughts unexpectedly. “You have to. It's the only way to gain the upper hand.”39
“What do I have to do?” I whispered urgently, not wasting any time in doubting him.40
“The words she just uttered were for a torture spell,” he replied. “So fall to your knees and scream and jerk. Whatever it takes to draw her out and stand close enough for you to attack her.”41
I nodded fervently. “So why aren't her words working?” I asked, faking a look of pain and dropping my hands. Divine smiled in triumph, relief coloring her face.42
“It must be an extra power you have been bestowed,” he whispered in awe. “Like Ella has, how she predicts the future. My father could never do such a thing and I have never been immune to spells before.”43
I started to scream, long and hard. It sounded so fake and dramatic to me, but I wasn't the one I was trying to fool. I twisted my body and started to twitch, feeling like a complete idiot as I rolled pathetically on the grass.44
“And while we're on the subject,” I hissed to him through my thoughts. “Just where exactly have you been whilst this fight's been going on?”45
“Watching you. Making sure you don't kill yourself,” he corrected lightly. “I thought having me in your head would only be a distraction.”46
“Good point,” I thought back, watching Divine slowly tower over my screaming and writhing figure.47
“How pathetic,” she laughed. “You look just like a worm who's lost his way from the underground. Although I must say, I am impressed. Nobody has ever succeeded in fending off my attacks for so long. But I am afraid your efforts have all been in vain because, quite frankly, I'd like to kill you now. Adios.”48

At last some action. Nothing to comment on here other than I'm with the other two: the entire team needs to be here for an all out to the death battle titled "the final chapter".
Oh. There's that "yards" thing again in #36. "Metres". A personal hang-up of mine - we're commonwealth, correct?

-
I agree with vamplover, we need the entire team for a real showdown. My favorite char - Flame
- hasn´t gotten much screentime. Or word time, or whatever. Shame. Maybe he´ll play a bigger role in the next book. Well, if he doesn´t die in the next part. Which I am now gonna read.
Can´t wait to know how it all ends.
