Why was I given a heart5
that can only be broken?6
Why do I have a voice7
that can’t speak the unspoken?8
Why is there black and white9
but no brighter colors?10
Why is it people11
do wrong to others?12
Why is mankind so selfish?13
And why can’t they ever learn?14
Why can’t they read the words15
with every page they turn?16
Why is it love17
is worth less than money?18
And why is it vinegar’s19
suddenly sweeter than honey?20
Why is it when life throws lemons21
we build high-powered factories22
that make our profit for us23
while we do as we please?24
Why are the years coming25
as the days are going26
and the planet is spinning27
but nothing is growing?28
You ask such big questions for such a little girl.29
But sweetheart, that’s simply the way of the world.
