Prologue6

She pouted in frustration, looking into the mirror in the public bathroom, trying to fix her hair out of its imaginary mess.  After a few minutes of useless finger-combing through her already beautiful black hair (with a hidden brown hint), she gave up and began to straighten out her clothes instead.  She wore a white, long-sleeved sweater with a very wide neck that went over one of her shoulders in a tasteful fashion.  Matching this was a pair of pure-white denim pants.  Finally, to accent all of it, was a cute looking cloth choker that was, actually, made out of a strip cut out of a T-shirt.  Someone special had taught her how to make it, along with many other things.7

This memory seemed to be pleasant, for it gradually brought a smile to her pouting face.  But, along with it, came a touch of sadness, barely perceivable, that went over her eyes.8

A pair of girls walked into the bathroom, and she tried to pretend to not notice them.  She waited until they passed her, merrily chatting to each other, before turning around to exit, but she stopped when she heard a familiar name.9

"...nison were so good together!  I'm so sorry to hear about what happened..." came the voice of the first girl.10

"...yeah, I know!  I heard they fell in love when they were really young, and they separated but eventually came back together again!  Isn't that just the most romantic thing ever?"11

A sad smile tugged at her face as she once again resumed walking out of the bathroom.  She just remembered someone she wanted to see.12

------------------------------13

She walked up the hill and saw him.  He was standing with his back facing her, wearing all black.  Her face broke out into the most brilliant smile and she rushed up the hillside.  He was concentrating on the ground before him so he didn't even sense her coming up.  With a shout of joy, she embraced him from behind, surprising him pleasantly.14

"Hey!" he shouted, unsuccessfully trying to hide his laughter from his tone.  "What are you doing here?  You're supposed to be in class!"15

She stuck her tongue out at him playfully and replied, "Well, I ditched class just for you!  Don't you feel special?"16

For a moment, he smile seemed to falter, and she almost began to ask him what she'd said wrong.  But the moment was gone as soon as it came.  He gave a sigh of resignation.  "Jeez, you're insuperable.  Alright, I'll take you out today, eh?  We'll go catch a train and have some fun.  I've really missed you, you know...haven't seen you since you've been so busy with school work."17

She gave him a sad smile.  "I know.  And..."18

------------------------------19

Back in the bathroom, the first girl finished applying her make up.  "I'll see you in class, ok?  Gotta run, I have to get something from Kimmy before I head over there.  See ya!"20

"Alright, see you there," replied the second girl.21

The first girl left and the second girl ran the water in the sink.  She absentmindedly washed her hands and then dried them.  Then, just as she was about to leave, she gave another sigh, this time with great sadness.22

"I wish something like that would happen to me...but is it worth the pain?  If I fall in love, I sure as heck hope I won't end up like them..."23

------------------------------24

She looked down at the ground where Rannison had been gazing so intently at a second ago and finished her thought.  "...and...I haven't come to visit her for such a long time already."25

They shared a moment of silence standing side by side, her right hand clasped with his right, musing and reminiscing.26

Then, when she noticed a tear slip down his face, she pulled him to her in a tight hug.  She wanted so bad to be able to comfort him, to heal his pain.  But she couldn't do anything but try and soothe him.  She laid her face on his shoulder and stroked his back with her hand.27

"I'm alright," he said stubbornly, angrily swiping at the dampness.  He didn't try to break the embrace.28

Yeah right, she thought, but kept that to herself.  Instead, she spoke hesitantly.  "You know," she started, "I think she was happy with what you two shared.  Maybe...maybe it was enough."  She pulled back and looked hopefully into his face.29

A flicker of dark emotions that nearly frightened her crossed his face.  But he said only, "No.  She was happy...but it wasn't enough.  Why couldn't-" he paused, trying to suppress the pain.  And the anger.  "-why couldn't we have more time?!  Goddamn it...it wasn't enough."30

She only gave another sigh and comfortingly brushed his bangs away his eyes.31

After a few more moments of silence, he got himself under control.  Looking up, he smiled that smile at her, the one he always had nowadays.  The kind you see on the face of a man who was finally done fighting.  It frightened her more than his anger.32

"Sorry about that," he whispered.33

She smiled back a hopeful smile and said it was alright.34

"Hey, how about I treat you to ice cream?" he said, putting an arm around her shoulders and guiding her away.  Agreeing enthusiastically, the two began to walk away, trying to forget the sorrows of life.  But as they neared the bottom of the hill, she stopped one more time and turned around to look at that patch of earth.35

"I miss you, Auntie.  Thank you for everything...I love you."36

Rannison smiled and kissed her forehead.  "Come on, Kayla.  Let's get going…it's starting to get a little chilly."37

Kayla smiled back at him brightly and nodded.  "Alright, Uncle Ronny.  Let's go!"  And with that, burst forward, pulling on his hand, and they began to race down the dirt path.38

On the hill, a breeze picked up and leaves and branches into the wind.  In the sod, in front of two sets of fresh indentations made by shoes, was a beautiful silver plaque, surrounded by a dazzling array of pure-white flowers.  The plaque itself bore no date, nor descriptions, but shone brightly as if it were polished and cleaned everyday.  On it was engraved a single name.39

"  A  Y  A  K  I  "40

Author notes

Author's Notes: Hi hi!  Thanks for reading the second edition of Soul Bound 00!  I've inputed -- symbols to solve the problem of the line spacings that wouldn't convert when I uploaded the file, and will continue to do so from now on, so that the POV changes won't be so confusing.  This is my first original story, so please be patient while I adjust.  I'll have things running smoothly in no time!
First Timers: For those first time readers out there, hello!  This story is actually a side story to the big project Zephyr, currenly under construction by the Kismet Productions team (led by me ^^).  However, I've went back and revised this story so that it shouldn't be all THAT confusing to people who have no prior knowledge of the main series, so don't worry about that.  If you're having some trouble with the characters, please don't be frustrated and just read on, it'll all become clear to you after you read the first Book.
Story Division: This story was originally divided into a prologue and six Books, with individual chapters incorporated into the books.  I hate making short little posts frequently, however, due to demand from some readers, I will regretably do so, so please excuse the chapter lengths.
Potential Editors: I'd be so glad if someone would be willing to edit for me!  I'm not perfect, and I haven't been in the fiction world for so long that I feel out of touch.  Please email me at dragonofjusenkyo@hotmail.com if you are interested!
Misc.: My friend suggested me posting on storywrite.com, so this is first post here.  I hope this works out better than some other hosts.  Thank you for your time!
