I fall,1
Farther and farther 2
Into an unknown world, 3
It is dull 4
From my bright gay one 5
Trees loom over me casting a darkening shadow 6
The trees I knew used to 7
Merrily sing songs 8
And never seemed frightening to me. 9
Leaves fall from the trees 10
Stacks and stacks of them 11
Piling up, 12
More and more 13
Longer and longer 14
They used to be small simple ones, 15
Easily studied. 16
I see many fellow journeymen, 17
But unlike my world, 18
They are mean and aggressive. 19
This world is scary in its difference 20
Where has my old world gone? 21
The older I get the farther it seems.22

Ah indeed, especially in high school, which really is sort of a dark age of academia, because of the paranoia surrounding college entrance. Not to say that college is a piece of cake, but at least you're not stressing over the SATs. I can totally relate, because I was one of those freakoids who used to enjoy elementary school. But by the time I got to high school, I found myself wondering in the winter mornings:
Christ, am I dead yet? I just don't want to wake up for school today.
It's a lot more stressful on the ones on the top of the academic scale than those on the lower end though because of all the competition and the 3am papers and 5 chapter tests.
Anyhow, great job!
