She smiled at him, her hair blowing in the breeze.1
"Would you like to drive?" he asked.2
"Oh, no. I'm fine," she replied.3
"Okay." He smiled and put his arm around her.4
She leaned against him and put her head on his shoulder.5
"I love you," she whispered.6
He smiled at her, and stoked her cheek, but said nothing.7
This made her uneasy, but she knew he wasn't one to give his heart away easily.8
They drove through the countryside for awhile.9
"Hey, you do something fun?" he asked.10
She giggled and said, "Yes."11
"Okay, put your seat belt on though," he told her.12
"Alright."13
"See that bridge up ahead?"14
"Yes," she answered.15
"Okay, well, my father always used to drive me around here and whenever we got to this bridge he would go as fast as he could when we went across it." He laughed. "He always told me if we didn't go fast enough, the bridge would collapse."16
"Let's do it then," she smiled, "But, are you sure it's safe?"17
"Sure, I've done it hundreds of times. Just trust me."18
He gave her a reassuring smile and put his foot hard against the pedal.19
Her heart jumped as the car started to go faster.20
The car went faster and faster, as the bridge got closer and closer.21
She started to laugh at the excitement.22
Then she looked up at his face, he had a look of horror on it.23
She looked up and saw a car coming straight at them.24
"Do something!" she shouted.25
"I can't! I can't!" he screamed.26
He swerved to miss the car, sending them hurling over the side of the bridge.27
They both breathed heavily as water surrounded the car.28
Tears ran down both of their cheeks.29
As the water began to rush in, he said to her, "I love you. And I will die happy knowing you love me and I'm next to you. But you, hold on. Help is coming."30
"No, even if they do come. I'll never leave your side," she cried.31
He shook his head and took her hand.32
As the water rose over their heads, he pulled her close.33
When they found them, they were still intertwined. Though, both of them looked peaceful and happy. As if they had known that they would be together in death, so their was no reason to be afraid.34
