Signe and Jed

It was a classic tale. Girl from a noble family, boy from a farm. Society separated them. Friendship brought them together.2

From the beginning Jedidiah and Signe were close. As close as friends could get. By daytime they were down at the stream catching fish or swimming. By night they were running through the town, chasing chickens or lying under the stars.4

Jed would occasionally be invited to come play with Signe at her father's mansion when she wished. They would run through the house chasing each other or playing little games of war around the kitchen. Those were Signe's favorite.6

Sometimes her father would allow her to go down to the farm. Those were even more rare then Jed's visits to the mansion. Often, her father would send a guard to be 'close by' in case anything happened.8

Still the two managed to have more fun then anyone could ever imagine. Signe and Jed, the best of friends.10

"You're so silly!" Signe laughed as she pushed Jed's shoulder lightly.14

He chuckled. "I mean it! If the seemstress would have gotten any closer to you she would have poked a hole in you and left all the air out!"16

She snuggled close to Jed as she continued to giggle. He put his arms around her and looked up at the sky. A meteor shot across the atmosphere. Gentle breezes blew, pushing Signe's hair over infront of her eyes. Before she had the chance to reach for it, Jed was already brushing it aside. His hand was warm on her cheek.18

Signe blushed.20

"What is it?" He asked.22

"Nothing heehee. Why don't we go back to the mansion for a little bit?"24

Jed picked her up into his arms. "You sure your father is going to let his teenage daughter and a teenage boy mess around behind closed doors?" 26

"Probably not." Signe giggled.28

They started walking towards the mansion. It was a beautiful night. Two guards opened the doors and lead them in. Jed carefully let Signe down onto the floor. She smiled at him and continued to walk by his side to her room.30

Before they got there her father stepped into the hallway with some papers in hand. "Ah Signe. There you are dear. Jed..." He nodded.32

Jed lowered his head. "Good evening your highest."34

They exchanged a nod and then like nothing happened the father walked away. Signe tugged on Jed's arm. He smiled down at her and followed her the rest of the way to the room. He made sure to keep his other hand in his pocket.36

For in it, was a note for Signe he was hoping to give to her tonight. In it, he would confess something that has been plaguing him for a while. 38

"Ugh I'm so tired..." Signe sighed as she flopped down on her bed.40

Jed came over and started stroking her hair softly.42

She purred with contentment and relaxed instantly under his hand. Jed continued to stroke gently. Signe's breathing started becoming light. Then finally she slowly fell into sleep.44

Jed sat on the bed continuing the motion. After a few minutes he stood carefully, and placed the note at her bed. As he was walking out the door he heard something.46

"I...Love you...Jed..." She smiled and snuggled close to one of her pillows.48

Jed blushed at the words but carefully approached her. He leaned over to pick up the note from the bed. This could wait, he decided. He kissed her cheek softly before finally making his escape.50

When he arrived home late that night, he discovered a note slipped under his bedroom door.54

'Find a way into my room tomorrow night. Don't let anyone see you. I'll be waiting. Love, Signe'56

His heart skipped a little? Her room? Don't let anyone see? What did she have in mind? Jed looked out his window to the castle in the distance, and wondered with both notes in hand... 58
