When I was a baby my mom and dad got Gunner, a chocolate lab. I loved that dog so much. My mom told me a couple years ago that Gunner used to sleep under my crib, and anytime someone would come near me, he would growl until he understood that they weren't going to hurt me. 1
When I was about two my parents had another kid. But Gunner didn't sleep under her crib. Nope. Nada. Even when I was older he would sleep outside my door, and i would run into him when I tried to get out. He did that just to me. My sister's was right next door, so you can imagine how special I felt. 2
Unfortunatly, when Gunner and I were seven, he got cancer, and we had to pute him down. When I was at school they took him in, and when I came home Mom told my sister and I to make cards for Gunner so he can read them in Doggie Heaven. 3
My dad built a 'coffin' for Gunner. We saw him laying in there and started to tear up. Mom put a gigantic rose on him and my sister and I put our cards in the box. We said our final goodbyes and buried him in the woods where he loved to play at my grandmother's house.4
Since then I had only had one other dog that I felt loved me since the. Buddy. But, sadly, we had to move and the house we rent wouldn't let us have dogs, so we had to give him up. I haven't had a dog since, because we still live in the rented house. Now I have a bunny named Chewy. I love him, don't get me wrong, but he isn't a dog and definitely isn't Gunner. No other dog can replace him. 5
I love you Gunner!
