The Mysterious House: Chapter 3

Alex, John, and Emily each lay in their respective bunk beds.  In the RV, the three siblings shared a tiny room with two bunk beds.  It had been hours since the family had departed from the Thomas family's house, but the distrubing conversation that had been shared with Bo, Sarah, and Will still rang clearly in Alex's head like a loud bell.  Alex let out a loud sigh and closed his eyes.  His siblings were both asleep, but he was having trouble getting to sleep.  Inside his head, the conversation played out again, as clearly as the day.1

"Do you know why we brought you here?" asked Bo quietly.2

Alex and John shook their heads.3

"You bought that house over there?" asked Sarah, jerking her thumb to the right.4

"Yes," said Alex quietly, "why?"5

"Because," whispered Will, "that house your parents bought...is...haunted!"6

"Haunted?" asked Alex in a shrill voice unlike his own.7

"Yes, haunted," continued Will. "There are supernatural spirits beyond our control living in that house." he said in a serious whisper.  Alex and John gasped sharply.  Emily jumped into John's lap and began to whimper like a puppy.8

"According to some kids in our neighborhood," began Sarah, "two kids went into the house one night because of a dare."  There was a moment of awkward silence around.9

"Go on..." said John.10

"Anyway, to make a long story short, they were never seen again."  concluded Bo.  There was more silence except for the soft sound of the rain.  After another moment, John broke the silence.11

"You guys have to be kidding me!  It's not haunted!" he exclaimed.  Will, Sarah, and Bo exchanged surprised looks.12

"Just be careful guys." said Bo softly.  13

Then, Alex, in his bed, opened his eyes again.  He glanced over to the clock on his nightstand.  12:14 AM.  He sighed once more and climbed out of his bed.  He had to know whether or not the house was haunted!  Alex slipped into some shoes and started to walk out the door of the room when John said, "Alex, where are you going?"  Alex whirled around.14

"I thought you were asleep." said Alex.15

"Well, I couldn't get to sleep either.  Where are you going?"16

"To our future house.  I must know whether or not it's haunted."17

"Well, I'm coming too."  Alex reluctantly agreed to let John tag along. Â John got ready, and the two of them slowly crept out of the room.18
