Anakire's nightmare chapter 2

Anakire’s nightmare1

2nd Chapter2

Anakire clenched her teeth in pure misunderstanding. How can he stand here before her? She had killed him. Maddox was dead. This wasn’t Maddox. No. it couldn’t be.3

“DON’T SHOOT” shouted Maddox. “I am not my father.. I am yet a bastard child that he had conceived with a woman of which he cheated upon you with, dear Anakire.” He said calmly as he revealed his face.4

Anakire realizing the absence of a scar that Maddox had in his right eyebrow, and allowed herself to believe the new comer. She, although still uneasy at his sudden appearance, smiled and permitted him entrance into her home. She looked at Grace for a second and kissed her on the cheek whispering, “it will all be okay.”5

Grace smiled in reply and shut the front door. Byron dropped his books and stared in a silent horror. He mouthed one single word “dad”.  Anakire wrapped her arms around Byron and gave a glare at Sira to stop growling, that was perceived but not obeyed. The new comer sat down upon the red plush coach and fussed with the green and yellow silk blanket that draped the back of the couch. 6

“My family has died and I have nothing left. I never even knew my father. Didn’t even know about any of this until a month ago when my mother died of cancer in my arms. She left to me a journal of Maddox’s. It went into detail about how he loved you. Also a great many other things that I think you might deem important. I do believe though that there is a more pressing matter I must request of you. Would you, despite of my father’s mistakes, allow me to live with you?” He stopped and looked at Anakire, eyes full of hope that not even a puppy could challenge. How could she turn him away? It wasn’t his fault that his father was a faulty man.7

“We must think over the situation. For tonight you may stay in the East wing. We will let you know in the morning. There is but one more thing though, what is your name?” aspired Anakire,8

“Artemis, my name is Artemis.” He replied with a bit of joy that he failed to conceal. He had fallen in love with Anakire as a mother before he met her through Maddox’s journal. He looked around the room.  Yearning to pet the grand white tiger, despite the growls that came from deep with in her jaw, his stomach growled back and He looked down ashamed.9

“Lucky thing you showed up right when breakfast was cooking” smiled Grace as she winked at Artemis.10

“So you’re my half brother?” questioned Byron through his communicational device. 11

Artemis turned around and nodded. “Yes, I am. I’d like you to accept me as such., but if you don’t I understand why you wouldn’t wish to. After all, I’m just another reminder of that awful night” Artemis replied in such a doleful tone that you would think a pack of wolves nearby would howl in mourning towards the recognition of that disgraceful evening. 12

Artemis and Byron looked on towards the kitchen. You could hear a low rumble of whispers erupting from within the kitchen. One was able to distort whom was whom in that conversation merely because of Grace’s accent against Anakire’s. They were both for Artemis beginning to live with them but Landon for some reason disagreed.13

“Give him a 2 week trial period” said Landon. “We should get to know him before we just accept him into our home and put ourselves at risk!” He slammed down his fist on the counter a little harder then he had intended.14

“Okay, Okay. We will give him a two week trial then decide. But until then he must feel welcome. Landon do try your best to be kind to him. He has no one. He’s not much different then you,.” Anakire had always known how to calm down Laddie. No matter how angry he became she could merely look at him with those great big blue eyes and he would melt and want to cry for ever feeling angry toward her. He loved her. She was his mom. Blood related or not, it didn’t matter, and he sure as hell did not like the idea of accepting a psychopath’s son, who just popped out of no where and might have some type of revenge planned out, into him home.15

“Thank you Mom” 16

Anakire gasped, slightly taken back by the use of Mom over Mamsey  coming from Landon, but she quickly recollected herself and wrapped her arms around Landon’s neck and said “I love you son, never forget that.”17

“I love you too mom.” 18

Grace giggled and snapped Anakire on the butt with a towel “Geez guys, lets get started on putting together this meal before it gets cold.” She pulled Anakire to her and kissed her tenderly on the lips before spinning her away to set up breakfast.” Artemis and Byron get on in here and grab some food”19

The odd group went into the dining room and sat down around the beautiful, round , marble table. Anakire stood and raised her glass of chicken blood “A toast to our newest arrival to the lovely Misty Lake Mansion.” She took a sip then sat down. 20

“So, Byron, is your trig homework finished?” questioned Anakire.21

“Uh, yeah, I think.” 22

“You think? You’ll never get into college with an attitude like that” replied Landon.23

“How should you know? You are but one year older than me!” bickered Byron.24

Artemis let out a joyful laugh. “Oh, the joy of how you guys argue, I do miss the beauty of squabbles with ones you love.”25

“Careful Artemis. One of the boys might just give you a new nickname and they are both spiteful when attempting to think while eating” replied Grace in a giddy sarcastic manner. She had a flash of deviation in her eyes when she said this and raised her hands up in defense from the infernal glares the boys were delivering to her.26

Anakire smiled and sank back. Breakfast was always an interesting time, she looked at her watch. Ah, it was noon, time for Byron to head off to his soccer game. “Byron its noon honey. I’ll be at your game in about an hour. You head off to your practice. Take Oakdancer for a ride. She’s been itching to gallop.” Although Anakire possessed three trucks, the family usually traveled by horse back when it was just around town. There is no better way then to be galloping through the tall grass. Especially on such a beautiful Saturday.27

She set Landon to work on the dishes and left Grace with Artemis, as she hurried upstairs to change out of her lingerie. “Anakire is a beautiful woman. I understand now why my father was so in love with her. Why he cheated on her with my mother. I will never understand.”28

“Yes, my love is a wonder in the arts of beauty. So how was your travels and where did you come from dear Artemis?”29

“My travels were good. There were plenty of older couples down  the road with farms who were willing to allow me to lodge with them. I came from Ireland. My friend Kari said she knew you. She refused to tell me past that.”30

“Kari?” whispered Grace in pained voice that was so extreme it was impossible for her to hide. “Kari Anderson by chance?”31

“Yes, that was her last name. How is it you know her?” inquired Artemis with a curious look upon his face.32

“She, she’s” Grace stuttered and a silent tear ran down her face. “She’s my daughter.”33

Sira seeing the tear pounced ontop of Artemis growling. Anakire came singing down the stairs and stopped abruptly, shocked by the sight before her. Grace was sobbing and Sira stood growling with one paw raised above Artemis’ throat. “STOP!” Anakire screamed. “what has gone on now?!?” She leapt over the stair railing, her skirt ruffling from the jump and her hair gone astray. 34

“It’s nothing dear, nothing.” Replied Grace as she attempted pathetically to recover herself and hide her eyes.35

“APARENTLY SOMETHING IS WRONG! You were crying… and now Sira looks as if she’s about to murder him” replied Anakire befuddled. 36

“I just mentioned a friend of mine named Kari that’s all I did!” exclaimed protectively Artemis. He whimpered as Sira drew closer.37

Anakire walked over to him and pushed Sira off “Stop being a bully.” Sira meowed at Anakire then walked away in a haughty disposition, giving Artemis one more menacing growl before lying down in the corner and chewing on her play toy.  “Don’t worry about her. She’d never kill you without confirmation from Grace or I. That was just a taste of what she would do however if you really meant us harm.”38

Artemis looked up at Anakire as if she were a saint.  She smiled and flipped back her curled hair. 39

“Anakire… The reason my father turned out the way he did is..”40
