David sat at the bar. The band playing was one of his friend’s, ex-girlfriend’s band. It was a synth-rock band, Jenni and the J-birds. They were a good band, and he enjoyed their music. The song they were playing was a blippy up-beat number called “Laugh if you wanna” Most of the people were dancing, and those who couldn’t dance just jumped up and down.1
That’s how it had been all night. Some of them danced, or drunk, yet here he sat, alone by himself. Every once and a while some one would come up and tell him how great his party was. David would raise his beer, toast them and go back to watching the dancers, which was, fascinating alone. The Bar was totally dark, save on giant black light focused on the dance floor. In addition to that, the dancers wore glow sticks of various different florescent colors. The looked like multicolor fireflies dancing to the music.2
A tall redheaded boy came up to him “Hey! David! Great party huh?”3
David nodded his head, raised his beer, toasted the boy and went back to watching the dancers, but the boy sat down next to him.4
“Dude, why aren’t you dancing or anything, I mean, this is your party.” He asked5
This was a new one, people never stopped and talked to him. He would have to think up some excuse, “Well, you know… I’m not really good a dancing” That should make him go away. Right now he just wanted to sit, alone.6
“Well, you could at least talk to some of them, not that I want to force you or anything, but normal people talk to people at parties, they even find people of the opposite sex” He nudged David a few times, “If you know what I mean” David new exactly what he meant. 7
David was woefully unsuccessful with women. Banan (the red head) had been trying to set him up with girls since the 6th grade. But all of them never lasted long. In fact, the longest relationship that he had with Helen. That was freshmen year. He had just come to a new school, and she was very nice to him. She was a sophomore, he was a freshmen. Any attention that he got from upper-classmen was always negative. But she was different. She was sweet and kind, and always helped with his homework. At the end of the quarter she had to move, he had to stay. They stayed in contact via e-mail, it just wasn’t the same though. Soon the e-mails came fewer and fewer, until eventually they stopped all together.8
“Fine, I’ll go” He replied, standing up from his stool.9
“Right!” Banan said with agreement clapping David on the back, “I’ll see you on the dance floor then?”10
“Maybe”11
Banan walked off and was swept up into the blurry haze of dancing people.12
What the hell David thought, I suppose I couldn’t fail any more then I already have. 13
Just as he got up, a girl came over to the bar and sat down. She was wearing a black and white striped shirt, and a baggy pair of black cargo pants. Her hair looked like a big majestic black waterfall. It sprung out of her head and cascaded playfully down passed her shoulders, resting somewhere near her hips. She ordered her drink and sat down. 14
Well, I suppose I could talk to her David thought, as he turned around and sat back down. She looked over at him smiled and went back to her drink. He also ordered another and turned to her. Here we go, don’t screw up this one or I won’t be able to skulk at the bar, I’ll have to go home, and this is my party, I don’t think it’s considered good manners to leave during your own party. Working up his courage he said, “So… go party eh?” She turned around to face him. It was dark and he could barely make out her face, I bet it’s smirking at me, thinking, “Who’s this loser?” Oh well. 15
“It’s okay,” She replied, “Good band, I think I’ll get one of their CD’s after the show”16
“Yeah? Well that’s good. I know the lead singer, I bet I could get you a discount” David said, trying to sound cool. Yeah that’s right, I know the band, wooptidue!17
“Really? That’s cool, so why are you here? I mean, your not dancing are you?”18
“Well…” David groped for an answer but came up with nothing, “I’m rhythmically challenged” That’s smooth. When all else fails, make up some scientific sounding word and try to confuse them!19
“Oh? Hmmm, that’s too bad… The guy I’m here with is too busy dancing with another girl” She looked forlornly over at the sea of dancing people, “So I’ve been looking for another dance partner, I thought you could help me”20
Ah, moving right past small talk and going straight into flirting, eh? That was quick. “Well, not that I can’t dance,” He started. What’s my excuse this time? Bad back? Sore ankle? Or maybe it’s the wrong type of song… “It’s just that, I prefer to slow dance”21
She laughed, “I see, well I don’t mind slow dancing, in fact, I could really get into it,” She paused then raised her eyebrows, “If my partner was really good, then I think that I could really get going”22
Uh oh, She believed me, now I’ll acutely have to do it. “My name is David, I’d be glade to dance with you” Where did that line come from? The 50’s? David extended his hand.23
She laughed and shook his hand, “Mine’s Ivy”24
Ivy? Isn’t that April’s Sister? April Johnson was his sister’s girlfriend. That’s interesting. If we get married then that would mean my sister would be dating her sister-in-law. Wouldn’t that be funny?25
“Oh? That’s a nice name, well, shall we dance?” He asked as the band moved into a slow song.26
“Why not?” Ivy said as he led her to the dance floor.27
They danced. This is nice. I’m really enjoying this. For the first this whole party that I’m having fun! Who know that slow dancing could be so fun? They danced through the song. But they didn’t just stop after that. They danced through the next six songs, regardless of why type. Afterwards they were both tired and a bit sweaty, so they retreated back to the bar.28
“Well, for some one who is ‘Rhythmically Challenged’ you seem like a good dancer!” Ivy smiled ordering two drinks.29
“Thank you, you’re not so bad yourself” Oh yeah! I’m hittin’ it bit time with this one. Who knows? Maybe I’ll see her after the party. 30
“Hey David…” Ivy turned to face him31
“What?” He asked.32
“Kiss me” She replied33
“Wha?”34
“Kiss. me” She said again.35
So he did. It was a cinematic kiss, like you’d see in a love movie. Their faces slowly moved closer, and closer, until they met. It was a passionate and loving. The kiss in the kiss, he felt not only her lips but her heart, her love, and even her soul. He felt all of those, and he was sure that she felt similarly about him. It was like in that moment they were exchanging parts of their souls using their mouths as conduits. The music in the background faded away so did their surroundings. Nothing in the world mattered, just her, him and their feelings for each other.36
“Hey you two! Get a room eh?” The gruff voice of the bartender broke through. The kiss broke off and they both turned red. But even then, they just sat looking at each other, then David broke the silence, “I… really liked tonight”37
Ivy Smiled and nodded, “Yeah, I really like you,” she took a napkin and wrote her phone number on it and handed to him, “Here, my number… I’ve got to go now… ummm call me?”38
“Sure, you bet” The kissed again, this time more briefly then that last. She walked off and he just sat there. He smiled as she walked off, he new that this would not be the last time that they met.39

Author notes
Ummm, well. I'd just like to point out that there are a few parts that there are a few times where the main character is thinking to himself, that might get a little confusing, but I hope not too much!
