The Red Path

When they got back to the house, Emily and Alister discovered that the two sisters were already set to go. Hannah and Sarah were waiting by the door. Sarah smiled as they walked up.1

"We figured you wouldn't be gone too long."2

"With you being pregnant and having such a protective boyfriend." Hannah chirped.3

Alister snorted lightly and pulled Emily close to him with a grin. "It's fiance girls. Come on now. How many times do I have to remind you? You should know this already."4

They both rolled their eyes playfully at him and came off the porch. The four of them started walking down the sidewalk. Everyone was in a cheerful mood for once. Hannah was cracking jokes. Sarah was playfully pushing Emily, her bag bouncing against her hips.5

A quiet noise was coming. None of them heard or payed any attention to it. The noise got closer and louder.6

"Oh stop, Sarah, you're such a joker" Emily laughed, pushing Sarah lightly.7

Sarah giggled and returned the push.8

Everything happened very quickly. Emily's foot landed on the road instead of the sidewalk. She tripped and caught herself but now she was in the road. A fact she quickly realized when she looked up to see the car. The car that hit her.9

Hannah screamed. Alister ran to Emily, his eyes were wide and filling quickly with tears. Sarah was motionless, she stood back far away from the scene. Alister looked Emily over. She was bleeding all over and it seemed as though several bones were broken.10

"Oh god...Emily....Baby can you hear me? Please...Please talk to me" He pleaded.11

She opened her eyes slowly, everything was spinning. "The...baby is fine, honey. I'm sorry I should...Have been more careful." 12

"No...No baby it's not your fault okay? It's no ones fault...Just relax..."13

"Risku..." She began softly, looking up at him with her big blue eyes. "It's time for me to go again..."14

Hannah looked away. She covered her face with her hands and cried. She couldn't stand to look at her sister. Even though she knew what would happen in the long run, she still could not bear to look.15

"I love you."16

Alister screamed. He screamed and he cried. He held Emily in his arms as her life faded away from him. He had lost her. After everything that happened he lost her. Why? What could have...17

A thought. Alister looked up at the car. Something he hadn't paid attention to since everything happened. A town with no people...Where did this come from? Who was this?18

He took a look in the drivers seat and saw everything. For a moment, he felt he understood everything. He took a step forward as he made eye contact with a pair of crystal blue eyes.19

"YOU!" He yelled as realization hit. His hands made tight fists and he got ready to run.20

Then, Alister fell. He laid on the ground. A sharp pain was rippling from his chest. He could feel something warm under him. Was it the road which was so warm? As he looked down he saw blood. A pool of it coming from his body. He had landed with his head on Emily's chest.21

He took a glance back up to the car, a small stream of blood trickling from his mouth. "...Never....Forgive you..."22

His laid his head down on Emily's chest and slowly put an arm over her stomach. A moment later, he too, was dead.23

Hannah was sitting on the ground. Her eyes were wide with horror as her hands covered her mouth. As though the slightest breath or noise would kill her too. Next to her, Sarah stood. In her hand she held a silver hand gun. With one round missing.24
