Mind of a Demon, Heart of a Child, Soul of an Angel: Chapter 5

Emalyn looked back at the closing walls of ice being very cautious not knowing if this person could be a threat. Since she didn’t know what might happen she has to be alert to everything. 1

It was like a giant ice cavern or a building made of Ice, cold and very slippery. Small and large icicles hung from the ceiling and the lights bulbs lighted up the place as it reflected off of one icicle to another making everything to a light blue color. There were stairs which must lead underground deeper into the ice cavern. 2

“Maeda,” Ara hugged herself tightly, “its cold in here.”3

Maeda patted her head, “hold on where are almost there,” Maeda looked at Emalyn, “how’s is your hand?”4

Emalyn looked at the burnt skin of her palms, “they are stinging but I am more worried about being attacked in here.”5

“Don’t worry, she isn’t the fighting type anyways,” Maeda continued ahead. 6

“You know her Maeda?” she inquired. 7

“No…just someone told me about her and always told me to stay away from her.”8

“Ahh,” was all Emalyn said. 9

Ara walked the same pace with Maeda, “Why? Why does that person want you to stay away from her?”10

Maeda did not look at Ara, “a question saved for later alright?”11

“Alright,” Ara sighed. 12

Ten minutes later they came up to what seems to be a dead end. A thin transparent wall of ice blocked there advance. Maeda stood there staring. Emalyn watched and waited…was there more to this? Was this a trap? Emalyn didn’t like this at all. 13

Ara walked up from behind Maeda, “now what?”14

Maeda smiled, “she is coming,” he pointed at a blurry figure slowly forming behind the thin wall of ice. 15

The person behind the ice sat on a chair from the other side and finally spoke, “Yes? What is it you need?” 16

“My friend here named Emalyn has a burn on her hand and it looks really bad. We wanted you to heal her hands because we can’t go to hospitals due to the fact that we are one of ‘Them’.” 17

“One of…‘Them’?” she asked. 18

“Yes. We are monsters, supernatural, angels, and demons to humans. Being hated and likely chased down or looked at us as heroes; Well you can say we have a lot of names given to us but they prefer to call us ‘Them’ since they still don’t know much about us,” Maeda held out his right palm and drew out a red flame burning brightly, “We are different from them but each with a unique power or race…and so are you.” 19

She remained silent for a while before she spoke, “So you…I mean we…are being hunted down?”20

Emalyn stepped forward, “Yes but we help out the people to show them we are good. We may do it in the shadows but we manage to insure their safety. That is why we cannot go to a normal hospital or the government will have us in an instant.”21

Maeda stared into the small flame, “They will do two things; reproduce us,” he summoned another small flame in his left hand and the two turned dark into a black flame.22

“Or end us,” he closed both hands and both flames died out. 23

“Really? Emalyn…come here,” a small opening then appeared in the ice next to the obscured person.24

Emalyn looked at Maeda and he nodded to show her that it is safe; she slowly made her way to the thin wall of ice, “what is it?”25

“Give me your hands so I can heal them.”26

Emalyn hesitated but moved her hands in the opening. She felt soft hands touch hers and those hands moved towards her wound and touched it. Emalyn flinched in pain, but left her hands there, trusting Maeda. 27

Ara sat on the floor trying her best to be quiet. She didn’t want to bother the older people’s conversations because it would be too rude. So she crossed her legs on the cold floor, pulled her arms inside her shirt hugging herself and watched. 28

Emalyn waited and something came over her hand…water or some sort of liquid covered her burns. In ten seconds Emalyn felt the strangest thing ever; it felt as if her burnt and dead skin came back alive and began to move and wiggle. She could feel the skin covering each other and locking together as if it was patching itself up.29

Maeda’s head began to hurt but he didn’t show it, afraid of letting them know what is really going on with him. The voices were yelling and screaming at him, demanding him to act quickly! The voices were so loud he couldn’t hear anything going on around him. The never ceasing malady and agony was driving him insane! He needs to break! Something is about to break!30

“Are you alright maeda? Something wrong with your head?” the woman asked from behind the ice. 31

Suddenly all the voices stopped all at once, “wait…what?”32

“I said are you alright? You seem like someone is forcing you to do something you don’t want to.”33

What did she just say? Does she know what is going on in his head? What should he say? The only thing he could think of was lie, “yeah just a bit dizzy is all”34

The girl laughed tilting Emalyn’s hands over and the liquid slipped right off making a deep plop as it hit the floor. 35

“There, you are now healed but the scar will remain,” she said pushing emalyn’s hands out and the opening in the ice slowly closed together. 36

Emalyn looked at her hands and clapped them together happy that her hands are no longer in pain, “thanks. Hey what is your name?”37

“Sorry, but that I cannot give that out to stranger.”38

“We are not strangers,” Emalyn clarified, “we are like you. Why don’t you join us and help us out to make this world a better place to live.”39

“Sorry but I am going to have to deny that.”40

“What? Why?” Emalyn asked curious of what her intentions are. 41

“It is just not my time to come out of hiding yet.”42

“I am sorry to hear that but we need...”43

The woman cut her off, “please leave…now. Just come back if you get another injury.”44

“Wait!” Emalyn shouted but soon the transparent ice grew thicker and she sealed herself shut inside. 45

“Yeah I didn’t think she was going to come with us from the start,” Maeda said walking over to Emalyn.46

“Why do you say that? We really can’t do this by yourself you know?”47

“True,” Maeda scratched his head, “she has her reasons and we can’t force her. We should just concentrate on finding the others and see if they will join.” 48

Emalyn shrugged, “yeah…let’s go already. It is too cold in here for me.”49

Ara got back up; her butt felt like it was frozen from sitting on the ice cold floor for a while. She wondered why she wouldn’t join Emalyn and Maeda. Ara didn’t know whether she should be mad at her for not coming along but she doesn’t know her side of the story so she can’t really say anything. 50

Emalyn and Maeda made there way out of the ice cavern and Ara quickly followed. As they came to the entrance the ice slowly melted away letting them out; the floor became wet as it melted to the floor. When they finally stepped out the ice reformed back to its normal state; made of ice but looks like an ordinary dead end city wall.51

The whole way to the Orphanage they were all silent, thinking about the Ice girl. Would she easily change her mind into becoming their friend or foe? They knew nothing about her so they could not decide whether she is good or bad. 52

Emalyn thought of how is she really going to make this happen? She wondered if all of the others would refuse to join also. Emalyn looked at her fully restored hands and thought about her; she did soothe the pain in her burn and treated to it without question. During Emalyn’s life she had to stay alert and cautious to anyone; even friends can easily turn to enemies. 53

Maeda happily thought that there are people like him…finally. It has been years since he met someone different like him but when he escaped he lost that friend. He wondered if he would ever find his old friend again but shook his head getting rid of those awful thoughts. He was a bit disappointed that she did not join; someone with healing powers would come in handy in a fight against the world. 54

As they walked up to a familiar looking church Ara ran up in front of Emalyn and Maeda halting them, “well it fun spending time with you two but I have to go home now.”55

Maeda looked at new red church with a giant cross on the roof, “This is your house? Won’t you be home alone?” 56

Ara shook her head, “My friend’s family is living in my house because of the fire so they will keep me company. Yeah this church is my home; our house is behind this church though but still my home.”57

Emalyn nodded, “alright but be careful.”58

Ara ran up the steps to the entrance of the church and opened the door, “you two should be careful. I will pray for you, bye!” she said shutting the door behind her. 59

Emalyn sighed and continued walking, “we can’t have her around us too much.”60

Maeda followed, “why is that?”61

“We can’t allow an innocent kid to get hurt. We are going to get into a dangerous situations and she might get in the way. You don’t want her to get hurt right?”62

Maeda looked at the ground, “yeah…don’t worry, I will be the one to tell her. Soon.”63

“Eh? What’s this? Why do you look all sad?”64

“Can’t imagine how sad she will be. She loves to hang out with us.”65

“She will understand so don’t worry!” Emalyn slapped his back hard trying to cheer him up but he raised his back up straight in pain.66

“OW! That hurt you know?!” he said rubbing his back. 67

“What? I thought you were one of ‘them’? You can control fire but can’t handle a little slap on the back? Poor Maeda.” She shook her head68

“Yeah…you sure can hit hard for a short vampire elf. What are you four feet? Three feet?”69

Emalyn glared at Maeda the punched his back, “I am five three if you must know!”70

Maeda’s back jolted up again in pain, “hey!”71

“I didn’t do anything. I am an angel; see the halo over my head?” Emalyn grinned. 72

Maeda rolled his eyes and continued rubbing his now aching back. Maeda looked down the dark empty road lighted by only a few street lights. The only noise that can be heard is the wind blowing through the trees. 73

Just then Emalyn stopped and put her hand out stopping Maeda also, “wait,” she whispered. 74

Maeda stared at Emalyn; she was looking straight down trying to focus on something. Her pointy ears then perked up trying to hear anymore movements, “what is it?” Maeda asked. 75

Emalyn turned around and stared down the dark road, “someone…is watching and following us.”76

Maeda looked into the darkness but could see nothing, “who is it?”77

Emalyn focused squinting down the road, “I don’t know but it isn’t human.”78

“One of ‘them’?”79

“Probably but whoever it is it isn’t going to come out and I hate playing the role of prey. Who ever this is knows how to move in the shadows.”80

A chill ran down Maeda’s back, “yeah I can feel someone watching me right now.”81

“We shouldn’t risk fighting someone we can’t see, but it doesn’t seem to want to attack us right now. Maybe because there is two of us. Best thing to do is ignore it and continue back to my place.” 82

Maeda nodded and followed Emalyn back home. Maeda was constantly looking over his shoulder to see if someone is actually following them. Chills ran up and down his spine every few minutes, it felt as if that person was right behind him breathing down his neck.83

Emalyn finally broke the silence, “Hey what was wrong with you when I was getting my hands all patched up?”84

“What? When?” Maeda lied.85

“When she asked if something was wrong with your head. You didn’t seem like your head was hurting.”86

“To be honest I don’t know,” Maeda lied again.87

“Alright, I was just wondering,” she said but Maeda remained silent.88

Finally they came to the orphanage but maeda stopped at the entrance instead of entering with Emalyn. Emalyn stopped and looked back, “what is the mater?”89

“I feel like I should leave now. If you need me again you can find me anywhere, I live anywhere in the city.” He said putting out an awkward smile. 90

“What are you talking about?” Emalyn floated in the air in front of Maeda reaching his height and softly hit him on the head, “you’re staying with me you dummy. I can’t have a friend sleeping on the streets you know?” 91

“Yeah but,” Maeda looked down.92

“No ‘buts’. You can stay here. This is my home, your home and our fellow soon to be friends home whether you like it or not. You can stay in the room you just took a nap in, that room is all yours.”93

“Really?” Maeda scratched his head. 94

“yeah.” Emalyn floated back into the building, “besides…I highly doubt you can do anything without me on your side.”95

Maeda rolled his eyes and was about to go inside but Emalyn popped out scaring Maeda, “ah! What the hell?!”96

Emalyn laughed, “Forgot I am a bit hungry right now. It is feeding time for me…did you want me to bring you something back?”97

Maeda calmed himself, “no…I am good. I just need rest.”98

“Alright,” Emalyn shrugged, “I will be back before daybreak and try not to burn the place down while I am gone.” 99

Before Maeda could say anything back she dashed behind maeda and ran into the dark. Maeda walked inside and looked at the giant cimmerian stairs seven doors down the hall that went straight up into Emalyn’s room. Maeda doesn’t know how she could live in a place like this, in total darkness was scary but she must be used to it. 100

This place gave Maeda the creeps, not very lively place either. Maeda entered his room, flicked the light on and shut the door. 101

“I wonder what happened to this place?” he asked himself looking around at the dusty old beds. 102

Maeda shrugged and took off his long black desert coat and placed it on his bed, he wore a dark blue shirt with black pants but his clothes were covered in dark singed spots like he quickly ran through a fire. Small little holes were mainly on his pants due to some fire accidents but he liked these clothes. 103

He plopped on the side of his bed and hung his head down. He sighed and slowly ran his fingers through his hair. The room felt like it was getting hotter and he felt a bit dizzy. He knew he is going to hear them again…so without resistance he allowed them to speak their part. 104

The whole room began to shake and the beds started to move around little by little by the vibrations and the windows shook hard like if someone is trying to break in. the floors creaked as if something was living below it trying to escape, in all this Maeda just sat there waiting.105

A dark black hole formed in front of Maeda abruptly and the whispers finally escaped, “why…why didn’t you kill her?” their voice was low, dark and raspy.106

Maeda kept quiet still with his head hung staring at the floor. 107

“Why?!” as they shouted the windows shattered and glass flew to the floor. 108

“You don’t control me!” Maeda shouted.109

“And you can’t control us...we will soon escape.”110

“No…I will find a way to get you out of my body.”111

“Fool…we are you…without us you will die. We told you to kill that girl but…you held back. What a coward.”112

Maeda clenched his fist and a strong aura of heat surrounded his body, “soon I will kill you. Just you wait. I will be the one who will cut your heads off! You are the ones who made my life a complete wreck! You are the cowards!”113

Maeda being unaware, a dark claw like hand came out of the dark malicious hole and grabbed his throat squeezing hard close to breaking his neck, “We can end you right now if we wanted, but unfortunately your body is the only one we can take over. I still despise those who trapped us in here.”114

Maeda tried to pry the claw off his throat but it was useless. Maeda couldn’t breathe and his struggle started to weaken, “let…go,” he choked out. 115

“Shhh…sleep warrior.”116

Maeda’s vision blurred, his lungs empty, and soon his eyes site became dark and Maeda passed out. The claw let go and let maeda fall down on the bed, “in time warrior…you will be our escape.” 117

The claw sank back into the hole and it grew smaller until it disappeared from the room. The large red curtains swayed when a draft swooped into the room and the moonlight crept in. Once the moonlight hit the glass it made them all sparkly, silence was in the room but outside was someone watching. Two grey eyes witnessed the event and watched as Maeda laid there passed out. 118

Oh noes it's finally the last one that you've written, and it's more intense than ever.

They'll never get rid of Ara. First she gets kidnapped, then she gets stuck in a burning building. Neither of these things were at all related to Emalyn or Maeda's interference.

I can't wait. It's great now, but I know it has to escalate somehow to keep going, so... yeah. We'll see, eh?

HURRY UP AND DO CHAPTER SIX OR I'LL EAT SOME INNOCENT HUMANS or something probably not

    *gasp*

Interesting, a refusal from one of 'Them' to help the world for unknown reasons, Maeda facing his demons, (kinda) it gves you so much to wonder about. Sure there are a couple of errors, but I cant really say since I make 5 billion of them in all my work. Ya got me hooked, now I want more.

    • Nooooo -__-
