Suicide Chronicles: Play This When I Die...

Epilogue.1

I never could understand why nobody thinks to leave a list of songs to be played at their funeral. It's hard to gauge the taste of people you're obsessed over let alone ones you simply happen to be related to. For clarity's sake I wrote them all out on a piece of paper and gave it to a friend to make into a mix cd. The good old fashioned way, I told him, handing over a stack of cds and my laptop with Limewire programmed onto it. He gave me a look, toying with the gold tape holding my pc's wires in place. We're friend's out of convenience. His drug dealer is my cousin and my brothers are his daughter's playmates. He knew that at some point, in exchange for ounces of weed smoked and thousands of toys broken at the hands of his daughter, he'd eventually have to do something for me no questions asked. 2

Six months ago I would have just asked him for coke. I'm a different person now.3

"What do you want me to name it?"4

I'm googling suicide methods when he calls. I scratch beneath my chin, propping my feet up on the coffee table. I hadn't really thought about it, hadn't really thought it mattered. I planned on burning all my writings and always considered suicide letters a bit self indulgent. If I decided to wipe the documents on my computer and purge my internet accounts this could be my last existing form of expression. What do you call something like that? In The Event of My Demise? That could actually pass for a band name...in fact I think it is actually. Goth I'm pretty sure, or emo, or...5

"Dude?"6

"I don't know, man, call it whatever."7

I hear the brief tapping of keys, a laugh from someone close to him, "Right right, see you tomorrow."8

"Peace."9

~*~10

I wave a dismissive hand as he retreats out of the cul-de-sac, removing the cd from my laptop case. It's blank, no title. I let out a breathless laugh. Of course. Of course.11

Author notes

I really don't know what this is or if in fact it will become anything. I just now that about every 20 minutes someone offs themselves and they can't all be of the spontaneous-omigawd-my-life-is-worthless variety.

If anything this will be small snippets from the life of someone who is planning out the end of their life as they would for a long trip. Except ya know they're not really all that surprised when they suddenly see their life flashing before their eyes.

Wow. Even though it's not an official story, I love this kinds of writings. Random, but impressive. Some of the ideas people write about are so...strange. That's my favorite kind, though. Great write! Maybe you could use this character later on-you never know, right?
Keep on writing! By the way, love your storywrite name, too.

    • Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it. So far it's fragments, but hopefully soon I'll get it to resemble a story.
