He was a common man, just wanting the American dream. A love, a family, a life to share with someone. And he had met her, but he was shy, and unsure. He was always nice to her, but she seldom gave him the time of day.1
One day he gather the courage, and went to her bold. Asking her for a night out, just a simple night out, a dinner and movie. With sure manner and heart he asked her.2
Only to receive a crushing blow, a strike that would leave a scar for life.3
A laugh, and howl, and then her words struck hard as a knife.4
“With you? What a joke you ask?” She walked away with her head held high5
While his heart lay crush and twisted in the ground.6
Years past, the man knew nothing but pain, lost dreams and lost loves.7
While the woman knew only one conquest after another, she had men when ever she wanted them. Rich men, strong men, men of power she gained with her looks. Never looking back as she left each one after she got what she wanted.8
She had gained money, power, and anything she ever wanted by seducing the men she desired. Always promising them what they wanted, and never giving more than she needed. She never had room for a kid, so the doctors knew her well.9
One day while visiting home, she saw the man she had hurt so terribly that day. She no longer recognized him, as he had changed. No longer the man of dreams, nor the man of hope, but a shell of what had once been. He was the living dead. 10
By accident they collided and something happened, they both changed. He became like her, and she like him. She knew the pain of rejection, and the cruelty of men, he knew the conquests of women of power. 11
Each day that first week she had to push herself to do what she had to, never easy with the feeling of why try. She no longer had fine clothes to wear, but just the cheap things she could afford, and some that wear just barely wearable. Life was not easy in this turn it was in fact hard. She knew what it was to desire, but to be laughed at and used. As she was pretty, many men wanted a night with her, but nothing more. Those who had achieved something in life, even if just a family on welfare considered her a loser. 12
Yet she was smart, and knew many things, but she was too friendly, too kind, too giving, and thus left alone.13
A week later she met the man again, and she knew he was the one that had laughed her away. Yet there was still that feeling inside for him. He on the other hand had no time for the likes of her. She was common, and without wealth or power. 14
But for some reason the two stopped and looked each other, eye to eye. They changed back with the memories of what had just happened. She now knew pain like she had never before. She had saw someone for the first time, and what she had done. A cycle she had started many years ago with a laugh and insult. She knew the pains the man had come through, the life he had lost from that one fateful encounter.15
Where she had once lived repelling love, she now knew what was to be gained by it, and lost without it. 16
“You once asked me for to a dinner and movie, and I laughed. Seek not me again as you could never stand what I have become. Don’t let the times I have caused keep you down, but find someone worth more than I will ever be. You are far more worthy of what you seek.” She sadly spoke.17
“Is not love worthy of all who seek it?” the man asked in return.18
The woman had never shed a tear in her life, yet today she felt one edging its way down her cheek.19
“You would love such as has destroyed your life?” she asked.20
“I would love one that would cherish the life we shared.” He answered.21
Years later, the two have two kids, and boy and girl, neither taught to hate, nor to laugh at another’s plight. Today none could tell the woman had once been so cold of heart, nor greedy of soul that she played men for their gifts. Today none can tell the man was so destroyed and lost all faith in life, but has achieved the goals he once thought he had lost.22
Together they have rebuilt each other, and have learned to love. 23

Hey, morals mean a lot to me too. I just mean that you know ......grrrrrrrrr. Seems like what ever I say here you are going to take wrong. People, do need people. Leave it at that.

Well I wish it was that simnple... When what we talked about says that to me morals are more important than a quick lay, then I think I will stay with my morals.
Thank you! -

I kind of pulled this from my history, and from stories I have heard. I hoped it would have a message someone would see.

WoW! I am stunned by this. Although it's not quite what I was looking for in the contest, it is one of the most poignant pieces I think I have ever read from your pen Dan! This is so beautiful and there are many lesson woven into this that we would all do well to keep in mind. This is fantastic Hun.
