After a few akwards jerks and jolts, Raine figured out how to roughly get the black SUV to move. Just well enough to be considered "Another Teenage Driver", to her relief. After all; how sane would she sound explaining to a police officer that she was driving without a license because the Zombie Apocolypse was upon them all, and she was joining her group of similar believing teenage friends, getting ready to kick some major zombie arse? She'd probably be locked in a Psych Ward for the rest of her life, having it cut short as she wasted away in a padded white room. 1
After about half an hour of aimless driving through the somewhat empty streets, she finally found the road that lead to the interstate. She whispered a soft, "Yes!" and continued on. Once she merged onto the interstate, she found where all the missing drivers were. It looked like an endless metal river. A river she just happened to have to get stuck in. Dammit, she thought in annoyance as she slapped herself in the forehead. Of course people would be on the interstate! Where else would they be? 2
An hour or so in the wait, she realized something: the cars had only moved about a foot in her lane; lanes next to her not as lucky. People even began walking in the emergency lane or simply weaved in and out of traffic, obviously unarmed. The best thing about those morons is that they'd be the first to go, though. More rations for the survivors, right? She couldn't help but grin at that thought. 3
The first scream echoed through the packed road, making everyone finally realize this wasn't just another day. It was full of pain and fear and desperation. Tension in the air began to build. Walkers began running away and banging on the windows of occupied cars, pleading for security for either themselves or their children. Those who had seen the attack cried and ran like the rest, but some simply fell to the ground in horror, their illusions that everything would be just normal and okay simply shattering in front of them. 4
Raine quickly locked all the doors of her vehicle and rolled up her windows, not wanting people to begin pleading her for help. It'd pain her to say no and she knew that. Simply avoiding the situation seemed best in her mind, even though traveling solo was a stupid idea; even she knew that. 5
Something caught Raine's eye in the left side mirror. At first she simply wrote it off, but a second glance told her of the stupidity of her actions. A light brown minivan, looking to be from the early 90's at the youngest was racing towards her. It was too late to even try to get out of the car; that would only cause her to be thrown from the door, which would more than likely cause a concussion. Possibly even death, if she hit the pavement wrong. All she could do was cross her arms on the steering wheel in front of her and cover her face. 6
Not even a second later, she felt the force of the minivan ram into her SUV and push her into the red pickup truck ahead of her. The airbags released and pushed her body backwards. 7
The sheer stress and pain she felt in the accident caused her to pass out. The last thing she remembered was hearing several more screams.
Author notes
So I'm trying to think up a title for my story now. I'm not too thrilled with the current title, honestly. Any ideas would be appretiated! :]
