Chapter One: Summer Days1
Stephenie and I sat by the swimming pool, relaxing under the humid sun. The last few days of summer were approaching. After three years, we would finally be seniors.2
"Isn't this great?" Stephenie asked.3
"Yep, we're finally seniors." I laughed.4
"I'm just waiting for college."Stephenie winked.5
"Four years without mom sounds neat." I smiled.6
"What are you going to study?" Stephenie asks, reaching for the suntan lotion.7
"Nursing. I want to help others."8
"That sounds great. Did you know that Adam called?"9
I looked over at her, seeing her eyes sparkle. I could tell it was something big. It hasn't been easy for Stephenie since Adam joined the Army.10
"What did he say?" I asked.11
" Well, we went to dinner. Then we were having some quiet time."12
"And..." I encouraged her along.13
