Something Special

Summer vacation.... It was only a couple weeks away, and Anna couldn't wait for it! It was finally the end of her junior year in high school, and she was excited to be a senior. Only one more year before she'd be out of her house! She was just happy that this summer was one where she'd be allowed to find a summer love, like everyone else seemed to find before her. Last summer, she'd only been 15. She was a young one, and it was difficult to see her other friends, especially the ones that didn't share her belief and had started dating years ago, go through that phase of giggling over a guy that had kissed them two months ago. She was jealous of those friends, and thankful for the friends that hadn't yet found "that guy." Sure, she had crushes and a couple serious relationships that shouldn't have happened in the first place (though Anna was quite glad they did), but it wasn't like actually being able to announce that she had a boyfriend, and that he was able to tell his friends about her, point her out and say, "That's her. She's my girlfriend." That's almost as far as her daydreams went. Sometimes they went farther, fantasizing about the few guys she liked stopping her in the hallway, sweeping her up in a gentle embrace and softly kissing her, like raindrops lightly hitting the flower petals in a calm rain. The rule for her by choice and because of religious views was that she couldn't date until she was 16 years old. That birthday had happened about seven months ago. Not one guy had asked her out, though there was one that she had liked for years. And the bad thing was, he was one of those serious relationships, and he knew she still loved him. It was difficult to tell how he felt though, so she was afraid to ask him out herself.
"Oh well," she thought. "Guess I'll just find the right one when he appears in my life." And that's just how she lived every day of her life so far. Always knowing that she'd find that special guy one day, though she didn't know when. And patience was not a virtue she was blessed with, so it became harder and harder each day that she passed some guy in the hall that might have glanced her way. She was getting frustrated and started telling herself that she just wasn't pretty enough to good enough to be noticed. But she kept the positive thoughts going and said "There will be one who doesn't care about my looks and loves me for who I am. I can't change myself just to find a guy."
Anna was unusually wise for her age, and that wisdom kept her from trouble she didn't need.1
