It wasn't always like this1
Once there was life on earth
There was blue in the sky
There was green on the land
And my music was clearer than the waters of the sea2
Then the madness sets in3
The sky soiled red from the blood of a thousand stars committing suicide
The stars fall to earth
The trees hear the thunder and shake
I shake too
My music is dying4
No longer is it clear, no longer is it clean
Stained red with star-blood, steaked with bloody mud and decay
And as the music fades
The fear rises within me5
The horrifying fear
It jumps at me with a shout of rage
Tears at my eyes with claws of black steel6
I run7
It follows8
I run to my sanctuary9
It chases me10
I am backed into a corner
My arms over my face
Covered in wounds from the black claws
Wounds that aren't there yet are
The fear screams at me
It screams and I want to die11
I open my arms and beg the fear to kill me12
But it doesn't
The fear slices my eyes out
Severs my only link to the light
I can see it clearly now in the darkness13
The fear is a beast of flame and hatred
Claws and teeth and eyes cover its body
Its scorpion tail lashes at me with its poison
It eyes burn sores into my mind
Its teeth bite and gnash and fill me with disease14
This is fear.15
I am afraid.
Author notes
I was inspired by the writing of a friend who wrote a story about madness, but said that the fear that the character felt wasn't really done any justice. I thought about it a bit, and came up with this.

You might see more of me, but I don't come on very often these day. I draw more than I write now.
