The Tale of Anwyn: Epilogue

1

Legolas and Anwyn lived for four years in Eryn Lasgalen, content to live together beneath the great trees in the kingdom of Thranduil. After Galadriel departed over the sea, Celeborn remained in Lothlórien for a year, then decided to retire to Rivendell where Elrohir and Elladan still dwelt. He gifted Lothlórien to Thranduil and went to Imladris. Thranduil, in turn, granted rule of the Golden Wood to Legolas and Anwyn. 2

Upon a visit to Thandor, Anwyn and Legolas found the kingdom in chaos; wildfires had destroyed much of their country and little suitable land was left. Her father had died in the fires; her brother Rohred was injured. Anwyn led her people to Lothlórien, and declared it the new home for the people of Thandor. Rohred relinquished the scepter to his sister and spent the last year of his life wandering Caras Galadhon, taking in the beauty and listening to tales from his sister and her husband.3

In IV 121, Arwen and Anwyn were reunited once again as Arwen came to spend her last years in Lothlórien after the death of Aragorn. She spent much of her time with Anwyn, talking of love and faith as they had done so long ago in Rivendell. One morning, Anwyn went searching for Arwen after she missed their normal lunch together; she found her lying dead, flowers in her hair, clutching Aragorn's ring.4

Legolas and Anwyn were the last Elves to leave Middle-Earth. In the fifth age, when Elves and Dwarves and even the Hobbits had passed out of existence, they perceived their time had come, and sailed into the West. Elbereth herself greeted Anwyn and Legolas on the shores, and Anwyn met Ilmarë, who was indeed her ancestor.5

Thus ends the story of Anwyn Silmarwen of Imladris, Daughter of the Stars, Tinúelena of Lothlórien, Lady of the Starlight, Authiel of Eryn Lasgalen, daughter of Men, kindred to Elves, wife of Legolas Greenleaf.6
