What A Life - [S1 E1: It Begins]

The four friends – Cassie, Emma, Kevin and Ryan – met at the school cafeteria in the lunch time. They have been best friends since fourth grade. Now it has been eight years to their friendship. They always hung out together.
Cassie Martino was a Go-Getter girl who lives her life the way she wants. She had a bad childhood. Her good-for-nothing father abandoned her when she was five years old and her mother Alice discovered the most important things in her life – alcohol and sleeping around. Cassie has a part-time waitress job. Her mother never worked.
‘Love Me or Hate Me – You just can’t ignore me!’ – That was Emma Carter’s motto. She was a beautiful girl with charming blue eyes. Boys run after her and she was well aware of it. She was very fond of her elder brother Darren who had always been there for her whenever she needed him.
Kevin Wilson was the ‘Goofball’ of the group. According to his father there are only two things he can do – eating and sleeping. But the funny thing is he never got fatter. Kevin’s mother died after she gave birth to him. But his father had never made him feel the loss of his mother.
Since he can remember, Ryan had noticed that his parents had always discriminated between him and his 14-year-old brother Mike. But Ryan had never felt jealous of Mike. In fact he loved his younger brother wholeheartedly and they shared a great brother-brother relationship.
“I don’t believe this!” Cassie gasped. “It’s our friendship anniversary and you guys have other plans?”
“Alright!” Ryan sighed. “I guess I can skip basketball practice tonight.”
“Cassie, I’m really sorry but I can’t call off my date with Justin. It’s going really well. It’s our fifth date. Please try to understand.” Emma explained.
“You’re gonna ditch your friends just to be with your stupid boyfriend?” Kevin frowned.
“I’m sorry but I guess I don’t have any other choice.” Emma replied.
“Anyway, I don’t even know what you see in that guy.”
“Why? Why do you people always hate the guys I go out with?” Emma said. “First it was Brad…”
“Oh yeah, Brad the Spitter.” Kevin rolled his eyes.
“Okay fine, but what’s wrong about Justin? He’s cute, he’s smart and he...” she trailed off as her cell phone began to ring.
“Whew! Saved by the bell!” Kevin let out a sigh of relief.
“Oh, it’s Justin!” Emma said getting up. “Excuse me.”
“So, I guess it’s going to be just the three of us.” Ryan said.
“Yeah! But what the hell is wrong with Emma?” Cassie said. “Is she never going to dump that freak?”
“Can I tell you something?” Ryan said.
“Sure.” Kevin and Cassie said.
“But don’t tell Emma, okay?” Ryan said. “I think Justin is cheating on her.”
“What?” Cassie gasped.
“Oh my god!” Kevin exclaimed. “How do you know?”
“Well, last night after basketball, on my way to home I saw Justin kissing some girl outside the coffeehouse.” Ryan explained. “I didn’t see the girl’s face but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Emma.”
“That’s really bad news!” Kevin said.
“No it’s great news. Now we can tell Emma and she’ll dump him.” Cassie said.
“Yeah but Emma will be devastated. She’s really crazy about him, you know?” Kevin said with a disappointed look.
Emma came back. “Hey, I guess I can come with you guys tonight. We had to cancel our date.”
“Why?” Cassie asked.
“Justin had to skip school because he was very sick.” Emma explained. “He wouldn’t be able to get out of his house tonight.”
“Wow, great!” Kevin exclaimed happily. Emma glared at him. “Sorry.” Kevin said.
“So, everybody at the bar tonight at 8 o’clock.” Cassie clapped her hands together.1

“Hey! How was your day, Big B?” Mike called from the kitchen as Ryan walked into the living room.
“Good.” Ryan replied to his brother and threw his bag to the couch. “You home alone?”
“Yeah! Dad’s working late and Mom went out on a date.” Mike replied.
“What?” Ryan exclaimed and went to the kitchen. “Mom went out with another guy?”
“Yeah!” Mike said. “Remember that tall doctor guy from her hospital that kinda looks like Mr. Bean?”
Ryan nodded.
“It’s him.”
“Oh god!” Ryan shook his head. “Does Dad know?”
“I have no idea.” Mike shrugged and opened the fridge. “Oh great!” he groaned.
“What?” Ryan asked.
“There’s nothing to eat.” Mike sighed and slammed the door shut. “What do we do now?”
“Don’t worry, let’s order pizza.” Ryan walked out of the kitchen into the living room. Mike followed after him. “So how did you find out about Mom and ‘Mr. Bean’?”
Mike and Ryan dropped on the couch. “Well, I was at the window and saw her leave in his car with him.” Mike said and turned on the TV.
“This is crazy!” Ryan shook his head.
“I hate this.” Mike turned off the TV. He looked very upset. “I don’t know why I have this strong feeling that Mom and Dad are gonna split…”
“Hey, don’t say that, Mikes.” Ryan interrupted, placing a supportive hand on his brother’s shoulder.
“Why not?” Mike said. “I can’t even remember the last time I saw Mom and Dad and they weren’t fighting. And now Mom’s out with some guy.”
“Stop thinking about it, little bro.” Ryan said grabbing the phone. “Come on, I’ll order pizza and we can watch a movie.”
“Alright!” Mike tried to smile.3

Emma called Justin as soon as she got home. He answered the phone after the third ring.
“Hey, sweetie, how’re you feeling now?” Emma said.
“Better. But still have a little headache?” he replied.
“You want me to come over?”
“No babe, no need of that. I’ll be fine.” Justin said.
“Alright. Take care.” She said.
“Okay, see you at school tomorrow. Miss you. Bye.”
“Miss you too. Bye.” Emma hung up.5

“Hey! You’re doing it again, you know that?” Ryan waved a hand in front of Kevin.
“What?” Kevin asked coming back to his senses. He has been looking at the girl sitting on the table next to them.
“You can’t even take your eyes off her for a second,” Ryan said. “Why don’t you just go and ask her out?”
“Uh… I don’t know.”
“Listen, man! I haven’t had a date for weeks.” Ryan said with a smirk. “If you don’t ask her out, believe me I will.”
“Huh?” Kevin’s eyes popped open. “You wouldn’t!”
“Just kidding, man!” Ryan laughed and looked around. “Where are Cassie and Emma? Why aren’t they here yet?”
“Hey guys!” Emma and Cassie walked into the bar and sat down with them.
“Hey!” Ryan greeted back. “What took you guys so long?”
“Well, we were just on our way here but unfortunately somebody had to run into Fashion Store.” Cassie folded her arms in front of her.
“Okay, enough with that!” Emma rolled her eyes. “It was the most beautiful necklace I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t help it, okay?”
“Hey, Kevin!” Cassie called.
“Uh… yeah?” Kevin quickly turned to Cassie.
“What’s with him?” Cassie turned to Ryan.
“I don’t know. Maybe he’s in love.” Ryan said flashing an evil smile at Kevin.
Emma and Cassie both stared at Kevin. “Oh my god!” They both cried at the same time.
“Dude, I trusted you!” Kevin glared at Ryan.
“So, who’s the lucky girl?” Emma giggled.
“See that pretty brunette next table?” Kevin said. “Her name is Erica. She’s the new girl in my History class and she comes here like every day.”
“Wow, she is pretty, huh?” Cassie said.
“So, have you talked to her?” Emma asked.
“No he hasn’t.” Ryan sighed. “And I highly doubt he’d ever talk to her.”
“Hey, I’m not very good at the whole ‘asking a girl out’ thing as much as you are, okay? Give me a break!” Kevin raised an eyebrow.
“Okay, I’m sorry. But how long are you going to keep on going like this? Go and talk to her. What’s the worst that could happen?” Ryan said.
“Alright…” Kevin sighed and took a deep breath and prepared himself. “I’m gonna do it!”
“Go get her!” Cassie and Emma flashed him a thumbs up.
“Thanks!” Kevin said and made his way at Erica’s table. “Uh… Hey! Remember me? We’re classmates.” Kevin smiled his best smile at her.
“Oh, hi! I’m Erica!” They shook hands.
“Kevin Wilson.” Kevin sat down. “So, are you expecting anyone?”
“Yeah! I was supposed to meet a friend of mine here a few minutes ago.” Erica glanced at her watch. “Oh there she is. Hey!” she waved at a girl coming towards their table.
Erica turned to Kevin. “Oh I’m sorry I have to go.” She said with a disappointed look. “See you tomorrow at school.” She waved at him and left with her friend.
Kevin turned to his friends and sighed. The three of them gave him a sympathetic look.
“It’s okay!” Kevin said sitting down. “She’s gonna meet me at school tomorrow.”
“Alright everybody, I’d like to make a toast to our friendship.” Cassie said and the four of them raised their drinks. “May it last forever! Cheers!”
Everyone except Emma cheered and clicked their glasses. She had a stunned expression on her face.
“Hey, what’s wrong Emma?”
Everyone followed Emma’s gaze to see Justin and a girl walk into the bar with holding hands.
