It was over. Everything was over. Nothing could ever be the same now that he was gone. Who would be his guiding light? How could he survive in such a cruel world without his friend and his love. Fate was horrible, and his heart had been shattered into tiny pieces at the death of Kuroki.2
He had known Kuroki for what seemed his entire life, but it had really only been more like five years. They had met when Kuroki had moved into town, back in the sixth grade. It was Kuroki who had opened him up to new ideas.3
At first, he had joined in with the ridiculing of Kuroki, because of the fact that Kuroki was a know homosexual. But uttering the words such as "fag" and "queer" just didn't sit right with him, and left a bad taste in his mouth. It wasn't soon after that he stopped joining in, because he just couldn't bear to say things like that anymore. The other guys thought he was going soft, and soon he was ridiculed in the same manner, even though he wasn't gay!4
That was how he met Kuroki. You see, Kuroki had come to him in the midist of a ridicule and calmly stated about how kind he was, and how he needed to simply block out what the others were saying. It was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to him, and he offered his apologies to Kuroki for the past. Kuroki merely smiled ans said it was okay. The nicest guy ever.5
Their friendship skyrocketed, and they spent a lot of time together. Even though he was gay, Kuroki seemed like all the other guys he'd met before. And soon, he began questioning his own sexuality. And that was how he fell head over heals in love for Kuroki.6
One day, out under the stars on the beach, after a long day swimming, Kuroki had turned to him and told him how lovely his eyes were, and all it took was one look before he got his first kiss. Their first kiss. At that moment they were a couple. And they were happy for the next four years. Each special moment was greeted with a white rose. White for purity; purity of mind, and of heart. For the purity of their love.7
But a few days ago, lukeimia had taken Kuroki's life away. They had thought it was in remission, but it flared up again, and Kuroki lost the battle. Just thinking of it brought tears to his face. And the others in school whispered about it, and snickered. Some even had the gall to say how good it was that another fucking fag was gone. It was absolutely horrible. And he knew it wouldn't end there.8
Such disrespect, it was awful. He cried for weeks on end, before and after the wake and funeral. Kuroki was gone, yet he couldn't believe it. Sometimes, you didn't know a good thing until it was gone, and until it was gone, you could never truly appriciate it. Well, now that Kuroki was gone, he wished he were still here. There was so much he wanted to tell him, things he'd discovered. And so he'd sit at Kuroki's grave with a single white rose, and just talk, silent tears falling down his face.9
