Artificial life [2, Let's pretend everything is make believe]

Beep Beep Beep.1

I rolled off my bed and groaned. I walked over to the mirror to see my hair was a mess and the bruise on my cheek had yellowed a bit. I sighed and tugged off my striped pink shirt and replaced it with a purple tank top. I yanked off my black skinnys and pulled on a pair of tiny white shorts and black fishnets, I always liked to dress down in the winter, I liked feeling the cold air on my skin. Then I quickly teased my hair, I looked pretty good.2

I ran down the stairs and skipped to the kitchen. I opened the cabinet and grabbed a pop tart and then sat down. My mom came in the room and sat down in the chair that was in front of me. Oh please don’t be a talk. I munched my pop tart slowly.3

“Audrey, I have something to talk to you about…” She started.4

“Look mom I’m sorry I freaked out, but you were saying crap about Sonny.” I explained to her.5

My mom sighed and crossed her legs. I bit down on my pop tart.6

“Are you dating him?” She asked.7

“No, we’re just…just friend.” I muttered.8

She took that in.9

“Does he have problems?” She pushed another question on me.10

I thought about that. Do I want to tell her? Or is it best not to?11

Suddenly I heard my sister Bree coming down the stairs. Her dark brown hair was in a ponytail and her dark grey eyes were caked under pink eye shadow and they were staring at me. 12

My sister is nosey and the kind of person who sells everyone out, that was probably way she didn’t have a lot of friends. She smiled widely and looked at our mom.13

“I heard her talking to him on the phone last night,” She told our mom.14

“Oh really now, what did you hear?” Mom asked.15

I dropped my pop tart on the table, I suddenly wasn’t hungry anymore.16

“She asked if he was drunk and then she said she’d be over when he had a hang over,” Bree said smiling brightly.17

My mom looked at me with wide, troubled eyes; I turned and looked at Bree. I honestly felt like crying.18

“Audrey, how dare you lie to me!?” My mom yelled.19

“I’m almost eighteen and I’m pretty much an adult, so stay out of my business.” I muttered.20

“Audrey you pretty much just turned seventeen, you’re not an adult! He hurt you!” My mom screamed.21

I looked at Bree who looked happy with herself. I grinded my teeth afraid I might start to scream.22

“He didn’t,” I said through a tight jaw.23

“Audrey I don’t want you to see hi-”24

Her sentence was cut off by a loud car honk.25

I jumped up and ran to the window to see who it was, my mom did the same. There was a black mustang parked outside, the music was turned up loud enough that I could hear it. One of the car doors opened and I saw Sonny step out. I saw Tyler, Andy and Joe all in the car.26

Oh yeah! The party, I had totally forgotten about it. Wait… there was only four sits, where would I sit? Oh well…27

I ran out the door towards the car and Sonny. My mom stood in the door way with her mouth hanging open. 28

“Hey Audrey,” Sonny said in my ear hugging me. 29

“Sonny, I’m glad to see you!”30

I jumped up and wrapped my legs around his waist. He laughed and hosted me up by my hips. I had forgotten my mother was standing there, she probably didn’t buy the just friends story, even if it was true. 31

“I’m glad you’re okay… Why is your mom looking at me like that?” Sonny asked.32

“She thinks you abuse me,” I muttered wincing.33

Sonny’s eyes went wide; apparently he didn’t like the idea either.34

“Come on you two, get in the car!” Tyler yelled from inside the car.35

I laughed and jumped off Sonny and looked at the car. Tyler had shot gun, Andy was driving and Sonny had went back to his place in the back with Joe.36

Joe rolled his stunning green eyes at me under his beautiful blond hair.37

“Aww, I have to sit on someone’s lap but whos?” I asked pouting.38

Sonny laughed, I would have sat on his but Joe was there… Joe didn’t really like me. So that left Andy and Tyler.39

I looked at Tyler and tried to see his coal black eyes under his dark blonde and pink hair. I wasn’t sure if he could even see… He was one year older then me and I didn’t really want to sit on his lap.40

I looked over at Andy and smiled. His hazel eyes stared back at me confused; he shook his dark brown hair out of his eyes so he could see me. Andy is the same age as me and my best friend.41

“Ding ding, Andy wins!” I yelled.42

“I’m the driver,” Andy whined.43

“I’ll help you drive!”44

I ran over to the driver side and pulled the door open. I smiled evilly at him and plopped down on his lap.45

“Click it or ticket!” I yelled buckling us up.46

The seat belt wasn’t really that roomy so it was kind of uncomfortable. He had to put his head on my shoulder and place his hands around my stomach to grab the wheel. It was kind of funny.47

“Don’t get a boner and everything will be a-ok!” I told Andy jokingly.48

“I’ll try not to,” Andy said laughing and starting the car.49

I laughed and turned on the radio. I flipped through the channels till I heard the beginning to a song by Jimmy eat world, which I loved. I gasped and turned it up louder. Andy pulled out of my drive way and I could see my mom looking angrily out the window.50

I closed my eyes sighing. I wonder if she would still be mad when I got home…51

Jimmy eat world ended and my favorite song by Coheed and Cambria started playing. I reopened my eyes and smiled, I loved this song.52

I looked out the window to see a lot of people looking oddly at Andy driving with me on him. I stuck my tongue out of them and pretended to lick the glass.53

I started to tap my foot along to the beat and accidentally hit the gas pedal…on a red light. The car lurched forward, luckily though Andy quickly hit the breaks before we rammed into the car in front of us. My face burned red from embarrassment.54

“Audrey,” Andy groaned at me.55

“I’m sorry Andy, really I am!”56

Andy sighed and quickly hugged me before the light turned green then continued driving.57

“Bimbo,” Joe muttered from the back.58

I looked down at my legs and turned the music down to a normal level…59

I believe we were only about twenty minutes to the house when we heard police sirens… My eyes went wide as I remembered that my dad was working tonight, he just so happened to be a police office and working the roads tonight.61

“Sonny is he following us?” I asked.62

Sonny looked out the window.63

“Yeah, pull over Andy,” Sonny muttered.64

We pulled over and the cop car pulled up behind us. I crossed my fingers hoping it wouldn’t be my father…65

The police car door opened and I looked out the revere mirror just in time to see a short bald man with dark green eyes step out of the car. It was my father. My stomach started doing flips.66

I looked out Tyler’s window and fixed my hair so that it would hide me.67

I heard a tap on the window, Andy rolled it down and I saw the light being shinned from the flash light.68

“Excuse me sir but we got a couple complaints about unsafe driving in this vehicle… I’m going to have to see your licensee.” My father’s voice said strongly.69

Andy reached into his front pocket and pulled out his bent up licensee and handed it to my dad. After a few moments I felt Andy slip it back in his pocket.70

“How many people do you have in here?” My father asked.71

“Uh, five,” Andy answered.72

“Well son, it looks like there’s only suppose to be four.”73

I felt his eyes on me.74

“Sitting on someone’s lap isn’t safe,” My father hinted.75

I didn’t answer. There was an odd silence…76

“Um Miss?”77

“Yes?” I asked still not looking.78

“Miss you’re going to have to look at me.” He stated.79

I unwillingly turned my head towards the window… My father’s face was priceless; I would have laughed if I wasn’t afraid he was going to yell at me.80

“Audrey,” He whispered angrily.81

I didn’t answer.82

I heard the ripping sound of paper and saw Andy take it…then my dad just walked off like that.83

Everyone was silent for a while… Soon Andy started driving again; I kept the radio off this time.84

Soon we pulled into a drive way, we were finally here.86

“Come on, get out,” Andy said patting my lower back.87

I sighed and jumped out of the car. I looked up at the house… it was huge! I saw a ton of cars around the house too.88

I breathed in deeply and stretched a little. Then I collided roughly to the ground… Sonny had tackled me.89

“Finally we’re here!” He yelled.90

“Sonny the ground is hurting my ass!” I muttered laughing.91

“Oh right, sorry,” He said.92

He pulled himself off me then helped me up. I laughed and laced my arms with his; we skipped up to the house with the rest of the guys behind us. We walked into the house and I gasped at how many people were here.93

“Hey let’s find you a girlfriend!” Joe said to Sonny.94

“But-” Sonny started.95

Joe wheeled him over to the right hallway and away from Andy, Tyler, and I. I bit my lip slowly…96

“How about we found you a boyfriend? I know a guy!” Andy exclaimed to me.97

I just slowly nodded my head not sure what else to do. Andy grabbed my hand and pushed me through the crowd. I looked back to see Tyler had went off in his own direction also.98

Suddenly I saw Andy’s older brother standing against a book shelf nodding his head to the music. His name was Max and he’s eighteen, a year older than me. He has clover green eyes and is at least an inch taller then me and kind of skinny. He has silky black hair that kind of covered his ears and was gelled up in the back. He has a sliver snakebite on the right side of his bottom lip.99

We had meant before, but we really hadn’t talked to each other much. I don’t think he was a fan of Sonny and since Sonny was almost always around me, Max and I only had three short conversations.100

“Hey Max!” Andy yelled as we reached him.101

“Hi Andy and Audrey,” Max greeted us smiling.102

“Hi Max.” I muttered shyly.103

“Audrey needs a boyfriend, sooo, you two talk!” Andy ordered walking away. 104

My cheeks turned pink, but not because I was embarrassed. It was because I hated when people said things so bluntly like that.105

“You’re beautiful when you blush,” Max noted smiling.106

“Thanks…” I muttered.107

Max pulled me close; my heart skipped a beat there. He bent over and softly pressed his lips against mine, I felt the cold metal of his snakebite on my bottom lip. I stood there trying to get my brain to work, was this wrong or right?108

I slowly pulled myself away from his lips and out of his grip. He looked down confused at me.109

“I-I have to go find someone,” I muttered.110

He nodded his head like he understood, I knew he didn’t though. I waved slightly to him and walked off to go find Sonny.111

I shoved my past a bunch of people till I saw Joe leaning against the wall. I walked over to him.112

“Joe have you seen Sonny?” I asked.113

“Yup, I have,” He answered lazily shaking his blond hair.114

“Well, where is he?” I asked a little louder.115

Joe pointed to the corner; I followed his finger and saw Sonny…116

My heart dropped about fifty feet and the safety line was yanked out.117

Sonny was kissing the sleaziest looking girl I had ever seen, and I swear they were kissing with tongue. I looked away. Any butterflies I had gotten during the night had all died.118

I looked back at Joe and smiled weakly.119

“Thanks…” I mumbled.120

He looked down at me confused with his green eyes. I shook my head and pushed back past the crowd again. I reached the front door and slipped out. I sat down on the stone steps outside and looked up at the stars.121

I’m so stupid! Why did I ever let myself fall for Sonny?! Stupid, stupid, stupid… The word echoed in my head.122

I felt someone set down next to me; I looked up to see Max.123

“Are you alright?” Max asked me.124

“Uh, well… Not really,” I answer lamely.125

I shivered, it was cold out tonight.126

Max wrapped his arms around me, I leaned in for body heat…or maybe because I wanted to.127

“Care to talk about it?” Max offered.128

I thought about the offer.129

“Uh, heart broken by a boy… That old load of crap,” I said giving a weak laugh.130

“Ah I see…” Max muttered.131

I nodded my head slowly, not sure what to say.132

“Do you think I could help with the heart…?” Max whispered.133

I closed my eyes to think it over… Sonny didn’t like me and he never did. I was probably just some trashy ugly girl to him.134

“I think you could,” I replied slowly.135

Max pulled me on his lap and kissed my lips softly then a little rougher. I kissed him back, but I didn’t love Max like this… maybe in time I would.136

I heard a loud cough behind us, Max pulled away from me. I looked over to see Andy, Tyler, Joe and Sonny.137

“We’re all going home,” Andy said smirking.138

I got off of Max’s lap and helped him up.139

“So are we dating?” Max whispered in my ear.140

I nodded my head yes, I was too afraid to say it; he smiled and kissed my cheek. Then he walked back inside. My face was a little red I noticed as I followed the boys to the car.141

They all jumped in the original sits, I groaned loudly.142

“Who’s lap this time?” I asked sighing.143

There was silence as everyone but Joe thought he just stared blankly out the window.144

“You can sit on mine,” Sonny said.145

I bit my lip, if I were to say no they would all know something was bothering me. So I jumped in the back with Joe and Sonny. I sat down on Sonny’s lap and closed the car door. Andy started the car and pulled out of the drive way slowly.146

I yawned and for the first time realized I was very tired. Today was Sunday… Tomorrow was Monday and we had to go to school. Then it was Tuesday and then winter vacation. I really needed sleep for school. I picked my feet up off the floor and placed them on Sonny’s lap, making sure they weren’t anywhere near touching Joe. When Sonny didn’t say anything or ask me to move my feet I put my head down on his lap and curled up.147

To my surprise it was amazingly comfortable in Sonny’s lap, which yes I know sounds weird. He slipped his hands under my head so they’d be like a pillow…well somewhat. I could tell he tried his best not to move much, the only thing moving was his chest from his quiet breathing. I closed my eyes and fell asleep right on Sonny’s lap.148

I groaned loudly as someone shook my body.150

“Audrey, its five thirty… time to get ready for school,” Sonny’s voice muttered.151

I rolled over tiredly and then suddenly realized that Sonny had said that. I opened my eyes wide in shock to see Andy was there too…and Tyler and Joe!152

The room looked familiar to me, I was at Andy’s! I suddenly felt a little freaked out.153

“Um, why am I at Andy’s?” I asked them slowly.154

“You were sleeping and we didn’t want to wake you. My mom called your mom last night and told her,” Andy explained.155

“Oh, okay! Thanks guys…?” I muttered standing up.156

I grabbed a comb off the desk and quickly combed through my hair till it looked okay.157

“I’m so hungry!” Tyler grumbled breaking the silence.158

“My mom made pancakes!” Andy cried sniffing the air.159

“Oh my god! Yay!” Tyler exclaimed.160

I laughed as Tyler, Andy and Joe rushed out the door and pounded down the stairs. I followed them with Sonny at my side; we didn’t talk so it was kind of an awkward silence.161

When I reached the kitchen I saw that the boys were already stuffing their faces. From some odd reason though, Andy was eating hot dogs…at almost six in the morning. Sonny walked over and grabbed a plate as Andy’s mom turned around and smiled at me.162

“Hey Audrey,” She greeted me.163

“Hey,”164

“How many pancakes do you want?” She asked.165

“One’s fine,” I answered.166

She dropped a pancake on a plate and handed it to me. I walked over to the table and sat down between Andy and Tyler. Andy’s mom left the room to let us eat.167

I laughed as Andy tried to shoves three whole hot dogs in his mouth.168

“It’s too big, it won’t fit,” Tyler said raising his eyebrows.169

“Oh my, I remember Andy saying that to me last night!” I exclaimed laughing.170

I had a perverted mind that didn’t shut up, but so did the boys. They all laughed along with me, even Joe.171

I ate half of the pancake and then decided I was full. I got up and threw the rest of it away. The boys were still eating so I went into the living room.172

I sat down on the couch, upside down, like I always did. I was just weird like that.173

“Dog pile!” Sonny suddenly called.174

“On who?” I asked not moving an inch.175

Suddenly Sonny ran out of the kitchen and shot across the room and jumped on top of me. This caused him to land on my legs and part of my stomach. 176

“Sonny!” I yelled laughing at him.177

I heard someone coming down the stairs and out of no where, had a flash back of last night. It all kind of seemed make believe though, like me dating Max…178

I groaned as Sonny pushed more of his weight on me.179

I saw Max turn the corner and look at us oddly… Sonny was starting to hurt me now.180

“Sonny, please get off me!” I told him.181

“I don’t think so, it’s quite comfortable.” Sonny replied.182

“Please? You’re really hurting me!” I groaned loudly, he really was.183

Sonny didn’t move for a minute… Then he did. He rolled off to me and sat down right on couch. After he was seated I flipped over and sat right also.184

Max walked into the living room and sat down next to me. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer to him, I felt a little uncomfortable. Sonny looked blankly down at his feet.185

“Come on kids, get off to school.” I heard Andy’s and Max’s mom call.186

I stood up off the couch and with Sonny and Max and stood there awkwardly. I didn’t have a car or a ride.187

“Want to ride with me?” Max asked.188

I thought about it, it wouldn’t be the first time I had a ride with him. I had ridden with him and Andy a couple times, but it was kind of awkward… Or maybe it was because I’m a little shy.189

“Sure…” I answered.190

I walked with him to his car and watched the rest of the boys load into the mustang. Sonny looked a little upset, or distant, I couldn’t tell.191

I slid into Max’s car as he started it.192

“Audrey?”193

“What?” I asked confused.194

Max pulled out of the drive way and to my amazement we were already in front of the mustang. They must have been goofing off in there.195

“I’m just wondering but is it true that Sonny drinks?” Max asked.196

“Yeah…” I mumbled.197

“Why does he?”198

That question caught me off guard. I had never really asked Sonny that.199

“I’m… not really sure,” I answered.200

Max didn’t say anything else about the matter, which made me glad. I made a mental note to ask Sonny why he drinks.201

After about five minutes we pulled into the high school parking lot. I sighed. This school known as, False Layers High school was my hell hole.202

First off what’s with the name, False Layers? I mean what does that have to do with school…203

I stepped out of the car as soon as he parked. He stepped out also then smiled at me, I smiled back.204

“Can I have a kiss before school starts?” Max asked pouting.205

“Sure!” I chimed.206

He wrapped his arms around my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I gave him a small, cute peak on the lips and pulled away just as the mustang pulled up. He groaned, and I laughed slightly.207

“Well um, I guess I better get to class!” I yelled smiling.208

I walked off into the school building and breathed in deeply. I ran over to my locker and yanked my books out; I already wanted the day to end!209
