She was obviously in some sort of forest, but how far out she was from the building, she didn’t know. Kelly, however, had managed to run into a clear opening within the forest.2
‘I might be able to grab the team’s attention if I flew high enough…’ she thought. However, a soft, yet cutting voice sliced through her thoughts. 3
“Running are we?” 4
Kelly rolled her eyes and looked around. There stood Malaise, smirking at her. Her golden, tanned skin almost glittered in the silver moonlight, while her black hair flittered in the evening breeze.5
“Not running, no. Just trying to find my way back,” Kelly said, her fear making her voice quaver. She did her best to keep calm, however, as Malaise liked to taunt her opponents beforehand. 6
“Oh, of course. Running back to your dear friends? Or, to your family? Oh wait, they’ve been locked up haven’t they?” Malaise asked, sniggering. Kelly’s hands turned into fists, shaking with anger as she tried to stay calm. She needed to find a way out of there without provoking Malaise- but even she knew that was fruitless.7
“Go on Kel- run. Hide. That’s what you’re looking to do aren’t you? You’re looking to find a way out of here are you not? Go- run from me. Run from everyone else! That’s what you’re good at isn’t it? Running?”8
Kelly simply stood there and stared at Malaise, her own rage boiling up inside of her. She couldn’t contain it- she had to let it out. Kelly let out a scream…9
Fire exploded all around Malaise, forming a tight ring of heat and flames that prevented her from escaping. As Malaise looked around, she noticed that the ring of fire was closing in on her, fast. Concentrating on the light being created by the fire, she managed to gather it all up into a medium-sized ball, before willing its release, sending out a wave of bright light in all directions. 10
Malaise could feel the fire evaporating, and she realised that Kelly needed some sort of line of sight in order to continue her attack. Smirking slightly, she willed some of the light to come back to her, and she shaped it into a small ball. Holding out both of her hands, Malaise closed her eyes and forced the light out of the ball into a narrow beam along the ground. In her mind’s eye, she saw the beam of light hitting the dry, straw like grass catching fire almost immediately. As if she needed confirmation, she could smell the smoke entering her nostrils. Smiling slightly, Malaise let the beam of light rush around Kelly like some sort of mad snake searching for its prey. She would be trapped indefinitely. 11
Kelly gasped and tried to dodge the erratic beam of light Malaise was controlling. Although she had her eyes closed, Kelly was sure she was controlling the light, telling it where to go. Although their abilities were vastly different, Malaise had a lot more control over her ability- much more than Kelly.12
Frowning, Kelly focused on the fire that was surrounding her. Raising her hand, she summoned up from the ground a great blast of water that extinguished the fire that Malaise had created with her beam of light. Turning her attention to Malaise, she held out her hand towards her, focusing on the conjuration more than anything. Kelly’s hand started to slightly shake from the concentration, jerking up and down as she thought about the water bursting through the cracks... and then suddenly, with an upward thrust of her hand, a great torrent of water, as high as fifty metres, shot up from beneath the ground where Malaise was standing. For a few seconds, nothing but water consumed her, her shadow blurred by the inundation of water surrounding her. 13
As Kelly smirked, she looked around slowly as her skin started to prickle slightly. Was it getting cold here…?14
Malaise could barely hold back the massive amounts of water that was crushing her. Thanks to her refined ability, she was only able to slightly nudge the water molecules, allowing her movement, albeit in a very confined space. Looking around, she noticed that the water had stopped rushing upwards, however, the water wasn’t moving downwards either. Kelly had tried to drown her in the heavy flow of water, but she had failed. But just slightly. Malaise frowned. It was time to set things straight now. 15
Raising her hands, she closed her eyes as she plunged both of them into the water. In her mind’s eye, she saw millions of bluish-white light beams extending from her hands, almost like tiny little fairies escaping and flying away. They circled above her, leaving a trail of the bluish-white light behind them. As they rose, the water around Malaise’s hands started to freeze slowly, before the freeze followed the beams of light around her, freezing all of the water that was surrounding her. Within moments, Malaise’s water prison had almost become like an ice cocoon of sorts, trapping her inside, but preventing anyone else from reaching inside. But this isn’t what she wanted. 16
With an easy nudge from her hands, the ice cocoon around her shattered into millions of pieces, falling slowly towards the ground. As various sizes of ice fell around her, Malaise saw through the falling ice Kelly staring in shock, horror and amazement of what she had done. Smirking, Malaise knew this was the start of the end. Even though her hands were not directly connected to the ice pieces that were now floating around everywhere, she still had good control over the ice. Focusing on every single piece, she threw both of her hands forwards, and the ice shards shot towards Kelly, almost as if they were shot from a gun. She had her now.17
Kelly stared at the ice shooting towards her with a feeling of dread and foreboding. Without thinking, she raised her hands and a rather severe gust of wind soared past her and into the oncoming ice shards. They all flipped over and switched directions, now aided by the sudden burst of wind that Kelly had created. Although she was still in a rather confused daze, she pushed on the air currents, making the ice pieces stay afloat and shoot back towards Malaise with deadly force. 18
Malaise staggered backwards as she felt the sudden intense wind soar into her. She frowned as she also realised that the ice pieces she had directed at Kelly were now flying back towards her, supported by the gust of air she had created. Closing her eyes, Malaise concentrated on the wind around her. This was always hard to do, but if she did it correctly…19
She heard a crackle. As a smile played at her lips, Malaise continued to manipulate the air currents into a faster state, thus creating electricity. As she heard the dull crackle and zapping noises, she looked to her mind’s eye again and visualised searing bolts of yellow-white light in between the ice pieces. Spreading it forwards, she allowed them to electrify the ice shards into millions of pieces. Allowing her mind to wander amongst the electricity bolts, she nudged them here and there to send them flying into all ice shards, exploding upon impact. Malaise continued to spread them even further, thus making them more erratic and more uncontrolled, but the lightning bolts had more power and more chances to hit any stray ice shards still hurtling towards her. 20
After she was sure the present threat was eliminated, Malaise decided to focus her attention onto Kelly. Nudging the electricity together, she visualised a massive streak of yellowish-white light searing towards Kelly. This was going to be it. She forced the electricity bolt faster and faster, picking up more energy and power as it flew through the air. 21
“Let’s see what happens now, shall we?” Malaise whispered underneath her breath.22
Kelly ceased her air currents as soon as she saw what she was doing. Seeing the massive lightning bolt aimed at her, she started to slightly panic. She wasn’t sure what to do, and as the electric bolt got closer and closer, her heart began to beat faster and faster.23
Without thinking, and without hesitation, Kelly jerked up her whole arm, and following it was a massive chuck of ground that placed directly in front of the lightning bolt. A dull, almost echo-y boom resonated from the impact. Kelly simply stared at the massive piece of ground she had brought forth. Although she had not thought of it at the time, she knew that somewhere, deep inside, something was telling her she was the one who did it. 24
Almost as tall as a regular sized office building, Kelly walked up to it and stared at it in awe. Metres away, she heard a distant rumble. Frowning, she looked around, expecting to see another lightning bolt. But she didn’t notice anything. As the rumbling got louder and louder, she realised that it was coming from the massive chunk of earth she had brought forth. Stumbling backwards, she fell onto her backside as massive metal, granite and diamond spikes shot forwards to a length of almost forty metres. 25
Breathing heavily, Kelly just stared at the spikes that were all now coming out of the chunk of earth, both small and large spikes. As she began to calm down, her senses began to work again- along with her fear of Malaise. Realising that this was a battle that she knew she couldn’t win, she decided that she did need help after all. But first, she needed a distraction…26
Focusing on the piece of ground she had conjured, as well as the spikes that were now sticking out from it, Kelly shoved her hand forward and the chunk of earth exploded into millions of pieces, before falling towards where Malaise was standing. 27
Smiling slightly, Kelly ran off, not seeing if whether or not Malaise was still alive. She just needed to get out of there and find her team.28
Author notes
So, here's my fight scene. I'm not too sure if it's well done... and I'm not sure if the line spacing works or not. I'm going to use the 'fix line spacing' however, in this story, the fight is broken up into different perspectives, so it may be a bit difficult when line fixing goes through...
And, for easy reference, here are Kelly and Malaise's abilities:
Kelly- Able to conjure the four elements: Fire, Earth, Wind and Water.
Malaise- Able to manipulate these elements: Light, Metal, Electricity and Ice.
I suppose you can kinda see the stalemate going on here, as well as the opposites kinda thing: Fire created from Light, Metal extracted from the Earth, Electricity made from high speed Wind, and Water extracted from Ice.
