The Party (Part 4)

As we left the theater and got to Shawn's car, I felt...nervous. I was nervous because I had to sneak a hot guy up into my room without anyone seeing, hearing, or noticing it whatsoever. What I was dreading was the fact that it was going to be much more difficult to get Shawn Bristol OUT of my room in the morning, given most of the nosy neighbors are up and about, and could easily phone my mother and tell her the story of a young boy crawling out of my window at the early hours of the morning. My mother would barge into my room, and come upon me in a compromising situation. I most certainly did NOT want that to happen. The world for me as I knew it would come to a crashing halt.1

Suddenly, I felt someone shaking me gently. I snapped out of my little reverie and looked over at him. Shawn was smiling. Apparently I was amusing him.2

"W-What?" I said, disoriented. He pushed back a stray strand of my blonde hair.3

"I lost you for a few seconds there," he chuckled, his lips curved in a smile. I grinned back at him.4

"Sorry about that," I apologized sheepishly, feeling my smile start to slip. I looked over to where my house sat: across from Shawn's car. I groaned, laying my head back against the seat.5

"Why did you have to get me home so fast?" I whined, unbuckling my seatbelt, my hand on the door. Shawn pulled me to him.6

"Relax Jesse. Your brother isn't home yet. I drove you here so quickly because I know you'd want to avoid an encounter with him," Shawn replied softly, moving closer so he could kiss me. 7

As we kissed, I realized with a faint heart that his breath smelled of peppermint. I sighed blissfully and pulled away. He raised an eyebrow.8

"My mom will get suspicious if she sees a car parked outside her house and no one is getting out," I joked half-heartedly, giving him a quick kiss goodbye. I waved to him and ran to the house. 9

When I came in, I froze. My brother Josh was sitting in the living room; thankfully he hadn't seen me so I ran up the stairs. All of a sudden, I heard someone call my name. I sighed.10

"Yeah?" I shouted in a bored voice. I recognized my brother's chuckle.11

"Get your little butt down here sis. I heard you come in the front door, so I KNOW you're home," he told me in an exasperated voice, as if he couldn't believe I'd think he wouldn't hear me come in. I cautiously turned around and rounded the corner to the living room, now thankful I'd taken a sweatshirt to wear. 12

"What do you want now Josh? To lecture me more? Make me feel like absolute shit once again?" I retorted bitterly. I saw my brother wince and smiled to myself; I'd called him on it once again.13

"No, I'm not," Josh replied, his voice gentle. 14

"Then what the hell do you want? I'd like to get upstairs and relax if you don't mind," I spat out venomously, my eyes narrowed. Josh sighed.15

"Jesse, please--" he began. I cut him off.16

"Josh, to be perfectly honest, I don't give a damn what you'd have to say, so don't even waste your breath." I told him coldly, sashaying out of the room and up the stairs. I'd expected him to yell at me or follow, but he didn't which surprised me. 17

Once I got to my room, I opened my window and saw Shawn. I smiled and waved to him. He laughed and waved back. He began to climb up our fire escape and into my room, via my window. I stifled my laughter when he almost fell onto my floor. Shawn came to me and held me close, his hands warm. I sighed and pulled away.18

"Jesse, what's wrong?" he demanded, stroking my cheeks with his fingertips. I shook my head.19

"Let me go talk to my mom about something and I'll be back okay?" I told him quietly. "Hide in my bathroom while I'm gone. I'd rather not chance Josh seeing you," I added quickly, scurrying out of my room and down the hall towards the stairs. 20

I walked past the living room without a second glance and headed for the kitchen and found my mother chopping up carrots. She smiled when I came in.21

"Hey mom? Do you mind if I stay at my friend's house tonight?" I asked her quietly. She looked startled, but regained her composure. 22

"I don't know, Jesse..." she began, sounding unconvinced.23

"His parents will be home, and they're alot more strict than you," I offered up, trying to coax her into letting me go. She sighed.24

"Is all this coming about because you and Josh got into another fight?" my mother asked me in a resigned tone. I nodded my head.25

"It would just be a little awkward between the both of us, mom, and I'd like to give Josh and me some space to cool down," I responded to her question. My mom was silent for a few minutes before she replied.26

"....Yes you may go stay with your friend tonight, but I want you home no later than six; school starts tomorrow," she warned me sternly. I gaped. I'd forgotten school started. I nodded my head and hugged her. She smiled and hugged me back.27

"Mom, I'll just take my backpack now, and my friend can drive me to school. I'll see you tomorrow mom!" I yelled enthusiastically, running back up the stairs.28

 29

"Alright sweetheart that's fine," my mom told me.30

Shawn stared at me, dazed after I'd gotten into my room and told him what my mother had just repeated to me. I grabbed my backpack as he stared at me.31

"S-She said what now?" he asked me in an incredulous voice. I laughed.32

"I can stay with you tonight," I winked. "Just have to be up by six since tomorrow school starts. Now crawl out the window and come to the front of my house," I joked with him. Shawn smiled at me and headed for the window.33

"Alright. I'll be back soon," he smiled, blowing me a kiss before disappearing through the window and into the night. I immediately went to my closet and gathered the necesities I would be needing: clothes for tomorrow, my brush, my make-up, backpack, and of course, my phone.34

After I got everything ready, as I was heading down the stairs, my phone vibrated. I looked at the readout and answered.35

"I'm in front of your house now," Shawn said, then disconnected. I grabbed my duffel bag and walked to the front door. Josh looked up at me as I passed, but I didn't even acknowledge his presence. I ran out to Shawn's Black Ferrari and got in. Tonight was going to be a night I'd never forget. While he pulled away, I sat anxiously, awaiting the ride back to his house.36

 37

"I'm surprised your brother was home," Shawn noted. I nodded38

 39

"Me too. I didn't know his friends had given him a ride home," I said back.40

 41

"Did he give you a hard time?" he asked me gently, his beautiful blue-green eyes softening. I shook my head.42

 43

"No he didn't actually. He wanted to tell me something, but I cut him off before he could. I mean, I know him better than anyone, and it was probably going to be something nice that he didn't mean. But oh well, I'm done with him now so it don't matter," I said with a casual shrug of my shoulders, giving Shawn's hand a squeeze. He stared back at me and smiled.44

 45

"That's good that you're not letting it bother you," he murmured, pulling into his driveway. I didn't know that time had passed by that quickly. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I felt my heartbeat begin to increase in tempo. 46

 47

Shawn took my hand, grabbed my things, and loaded me into the house. I remembered his house well, given I'd been here at his house four days ago with Mandy and Ashley. I hadn't talked to either of them lately but they could have easily talked to me, and chose not to. 48

 49

"Come on. Let's go my love." Shawn whispered, leading me up the stairs. I smiled and knew tonight would be a night I'd never forget.50
