They said they were going to release you tomorrow from the asylum or so you heard from one of the nurses so be on your best behaviour she said none of that nonsense or they’ll change their minds and throw away the key and you’ll be here until you rot and then went off swaying that big ass of hers clutching those darn keys swinging them by her thigh and you watched her go on and out of sight and you guess she is right about the behaviour thing no swearing loudly or banging your head again the wall or laughing too much or screaming at the other patients even if they do rattle your cage with their stupid looks and talk and Big Betsy attempting to molest you in the john trying to grab your tits and all or sneaking into your bed when its lights out and laying her balding head against your breast listening to your heart beat no you’ve got to be well behaved got to hold in that anger and frustration and when you see the shrink later today that Dr Greud with the deep set eyes like Nietzsche in his madness with that huge walrus moustache and trying to catch you out with those tests of his be on guard what you say and don’t tell him to sodomize his wife as you did a few months back when he had infuriated you over aspects of your childhood about your father and his all too close relationship with you no just let him rattle on with his shrink science let him sit there all superior in that black chair of his don’t give him the opportunity to put a negative tick against too many boxes as you did last time when you urinated on the chair and he stared at you as if even his wide experience of life and patients had not prepared him for a grown woman pissing on a chair in his room and on his expensive carpets no just get through the time by gazing at him silently answering the questions he may ask with softness and kindness and take in as you sit there the colour of his tie and shirt and how that boil on his chin is doing if it’s still there and watch his lips and see if the dribble still comes as he speaks and the spittle still sprays you as he gets excited about some aspect of your past and above all act normal act as normal as you remember how and when you leave the room don’t slam the door or poke out your tongue or give him the two finger salutation just smile and draw the door to and walk away down the passageway swaying your sexy ass and holding your head high and when you see Big Betsy in the john with some other poor unfortunate leave her be don’t go beat her about the head just walk by instead silent and calm and gaze out of the window as you pass take in the fields and trees and flowers and the sky with white clouds and sun and birds and hope for tomorrow and the opening of the doors and gates with the last twist of the final key and the open arms of the mad world to embrace you once you are free.1
