blind assasin chapter 4 : seperation

i woke up in the hospital with almost all my friends around me. there was saskue, kakashi, sakura, naruto, and iruka. the only persone missing was the hokage. i noticed i couldnt see, but my chakara was too drained to use the sharingan.
"umm...hello?" i asked, seeing who was there.
"Oni-kun, your okay!" i heard saskue say in a releived voice.
"no, im dead, i just came back to haunt you all and now im in a hospital bed." i teased, and i heard naruto laugh.1

"okay, so saskue and naruto are here. who else?" i asked.
"kakashi, sakura, and iruka. jariyah is coming, he's the one who trained me for the exams wile kakashi was training you and saskue." naruto said, and i nodded. saskue helped me sit up(i was still pretty sore)and he said,
"you've been asleep for two days, Oni-senpai." i almost fainted again. 'two days, how long were you in control?' i asked the demon.
'dont know, but you were pretty low on chakara when i left, so i guess maybe half an hour' it replied in its femal voice.2

"wow, whats happened, wheres orochimaru?" i asked, realizing that i had fainted in the middle of the villag raid. everyone shuffled nervoisly and looked at eachother, trying to figure out what to say and who should say it. finally, naruto(of course he had to talk) said,
"after you fainted i took you here with saskue and jariyah-sensei, then me and kakashi-sensei tried to stop the raid going on and managed to get things calmed down. it wasnt until a few hourse ago did we get the latest news."3

"what was the latest news?" i asked, feeling saskue squeeze my hand. i knew this couldnt be good, even thou i couldnt see the worried look on kakashi's face as he said,
"the hokage was killed by orochimaru." i sat there, dumbstruck. the hokage was killed, i thought he was supposed to be the strongest ninja in the village! then again, he was closer to dying of old age as he was dying of homicide. i nodded and said,
"okay, anything else?"4

i heard the door slide open and footsteps approch my bed. the chakara was unfamiliar to any i knew, but i had an idea of who it was.
"jariyah-sensei! how are you?" naruto asked.
"im fine naruto, Oni uchiha, how do you do?" jariyah asked me, and i smiled and said,
"im fine for just waking up after two days."5

saskue spoke up,
"hey, when did the nurses say Oni could be let out?"
"um...tomorrow morning at the soonest." jariyah said, his voice confident. i sighed and sat cross-legged, trying to get comftorble.
"Oni, when your out are you up for a mission?" i heard sakura ask me.6

"why?" i asked bordly, trying not to sound to eager.
"we need a new hokage and you, jariyah, me, naruto, and kakashi-sensei are going on the mission to find her!" she said, using bad gramar. i couldnt help but notice she said 'her'. i brought this up and jariyah said,
"ah, yes, she was my teamate back in the day! very strong, but she's fifty and looks twenty due to a jutsu."7

"i cant see anyway so it wont make a difference. what's her name?" i commented.
"tsunade."saskue said.8

as it turns out, only naruto and jariyah ended up going. sakura had to stay and help heal the weak, kakashi had a very important mission to go on, and saskue and i had to help rebuild the village. that day i had my sharingan activated so i could see naruto and jariyah off.
"be back by your deadline, uzumaki. we need all the help in the village we can get." i called after them, and naruto waved back and shouted his catch phrase,
"beleive it!"10

i sighed and walked back to help saskue in building this home that had been completly demolished.
"so, when will they be back?" saskue asked me as i hammered in a nail.
"three days exacly, and if their not back by then im kicking their asses." i said, moving onto anouther nail. saskue chuckled, but it was a sad sounding chuckle.11

"whats wrong, saskue-senpai?" i asked him as he lifted up a support beam.
"oh, i was just thinking about what orochmaru said to me at the chunin exams. he said he had power that he could give to me and it would be enough to kill itachi." he said, trying to make it sound like nothing. i jumped down and grabbed his arm so tight you could probably see my finger imprints in an hour on his arm.12

i looked him dead in the eye and said,
"you cant go to that snake, you got it?" he smiled softly at me and said,
"it allright, Oni-chan. everything will be fine." i didnt know what he meant at the time, but i was too focused on finishing the house so i could get back to my own.13

i awoke the next morning in bed, having had the faintest idea how i got there. i remembered falling asleep as saskue finished up the house, then being carried in by him....saskue! i opened my eyes, aware that i couldnt see, and said,
"saskue?.....SASKUE?" no answer. i ran down stairs and called his name again, no answer, then i ran all over the house but no one answered.15

i ran back upstairs to our room and opened up the closet doors. he wasnt anywere in the house, and he was never supposed to leave without me. i was confused and worried, so i flopped down on saskue's side of the bed and heard a crumpling sound beneath me. i rolled over and picked up some peice of paper. 'a note!' i thought, and i turned on sharingan to read it.16

ONI CHAN,17

YOUR SO IMPORTANT TO ME AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY THREAT TO YOU IS GONE. FOR TOO LONG HAVE I BEEN TRYING TO GAIN POWER IN KONOHA AND HAVENT GOTTEN ANY STRONGER. THEN I GOT THE CURSE FROM OROCHIMARU AND I FELT SO STRONG IT WAS CRAZY, BUT I NEED HELP CONTROLING IT. IM SORRY IM LEAVING YOU, BUT IT WILL ONLY BE FOR A SHORT TIME, OKAY? I LOVE YOU ONI-CHAN, BUT I NEED REVENGE ON ITACHI.18

i sat there and reread the note over and over again until the anger almost ate me up. i crumpled it in my hands and threw it at the wall. i wanted to scream, to shout, but nothing was coming out but angry tears. he left me just like itachi did, and now how was i supposed to stand the teasings and the beatings and walking down the street without sharingan. saskue was my life and he left me here all alone!....just like itachi....20

i heard a knock at the door and i whiped away the tears and ran down the stairs. when i opened the door kakashi stood there, but his face was grim.
"saskue.." he said, but i clenched my fists and said,
"i know, the s.o.b left to orochimaru...." i tried to fight back the tears, but i couldnt. instead of letting him see me cry, i ran past kakashi and to the forest surrounding the village.21

he could have easly followed me, but i didnt care. i stayed in the forest the rest of the day and calmed down. i realized my chakara was very low and i released the sharingan. never before had i felt so alone, so weak, so....blind. saskue was always there for me, he was the one who showed me the way,
"he's the one who left." i whispered to quiet even i couldnt hear.22

i stood up from the ground and started to walk slowly, making sure i didnt trip or fall. but, alas, i did fall over a log. i landed on my elbows, scraping them up, and i got to my kneese. 'damn..'i thought, trying to stand again.
"need a hand Oni-chan?" i heard iruka ask me. i didnt know he was there, being blind and all, and i stood up on my own.23

"why would you want to help me?" i asked, looking at my feet. iruka took my hand and said,
"because your alone now, and i know that tough girl barrier is gonna break now." i bit my lip and said,
"he left me, just like itachi...." iruke pulled me into a hug as i started to cry.24

"its okay, you still have your team and me here." iruka said as i pulled back, wiping the tears away. i nodded and let him lead me back inside my house. he didnt leave until i was fast asleep, but even then he waited a few minuets to read the note on the floor.
"he really does love you, Oni-chan."he whispered, and he slipped out without a word.
