"Untitled" Chapter 3

Kizzy lays in bed as the sun through her window shines on her. She covers her head with the cover trying to block out the light, but it doesn’t exactly work as well as she thought it would. She swings her legs over her bed and stays there, she thinks about the nightmare she had during the night. “That’s right, I need to tell Wade about what I saw,” she tells herself. She reaches over to her bedside table, that’s almost too low to be next to her bed, and reaches for her phone. She goes through her contacts, too lazy to dial in his name so it’d be quicker, and she finally gets to his cell phone number, and push the talk button. After it rings a couple of times, he answers, “Hey Wade, it’s me. I have something to tell you,” she pauses, trying to find the words to say it, but she just couldn’t say anything.1

“What did you do, Kizzy?” Wade asks her, jokingly of course, trying to get her to relax a little. 2

“That’s funny, you know I don’t do anything, especially on my days off,” she smiles, glad he’s making this easy on her. “This is something important though, and I don’t feel comfortable about telling you over the phone. Are you busy today?” She asks him, as she looks at the clock and see that it’s almost one if the afternoon.3

“No, everything I had to do, I have already done. Did you just get up or something?” Kizzy can almost hear the smile on his face.4

“Yeah I did,” her face almost goes fully red, but she shakes it off as fast as she could. “So, I’m going to get dress now, and I’ll be on over,” she tells Wade, the Alpha of the pack that she sort of belongs to. 5

“Alright, I’ll be home for a couple more hours, then I have to go pick up Adelaide from her mother’s,” he tells her, almost letting her know that she should come over as soon as possible.6

“Okay, I’ll be there after I get ready, I’ll see you soon,” then she hangs up, almost dreading telling him about the creature that haunts her subconscious.7

She takes a quick shower so she can at least look somewhat nice, and not smells like the nightmare. When she gets out, she goes through her closet and sighs to herself, “I can’t find anything, damn it.” She goes back into the laundry-room, hoping that she has some clean clothes in there that she can throw on. After a couple minutes searching, she finds a t-shirt that doesn’t have any stains and a pair of skinny jeans that fits her just right, but there’s a hole in the left knee. She grabs the house keys, and heads out the door, locking the door behind her.8

She starts walking, happy that she actually lives near Wade, just around the corner, which is how she had learned about the pack. When she moved to Salem, Oregon, she was expecting to hide herself completely, but she was glad that Wade had found her. She keeps her ears open, making sure that nobody is going to sneak up behind her or following her. After a ten minute walk, she reaches Wade’s house. It’s a simple looking house, like most of the houses on this block, its one story. He has a bay window in the front where there is a seat in front of it so he can look out the window and watch people go by. The colour of the house is plain white. She always tells him that he should paint it a different colour, but at the same time, it suits him. He’s a simple man, and he doesn’t like to have a lot of clutter in or around the house. After getting up the courage to tell him about the creature that she saw, the creature that she dreamt that will rip open her brother, she takes a deep breath and rings his doorbell. Only a few seconds passed by when Wade answers the door, “Hello, I hope you weren’t busy,” she tells him, as she advert her eyes somewhere else, so she won’t be looking directly into his eyes.9

“Nope, I already told you that. Now, come inside and take a load off,” Wade tells her, smiling at her like she’s an old friend that he hasn’t seen for awhile.10

Kizzy looks towards him, like he’s been hit on the head with a brick, “Drinking early aren’t you?” She laughs a little, letting him know that she’s only playing with him.11

“You should know by now, I don’t drink. Werewolves, besides yourself, need to stay sober,” he nudges her gently, but enough that she sways sideways.12

“Yes, I know,” she looks at the couch, the couch that she has only sat on once, but it made an impression on her bum. 13

“Please, sit. I know you want to get to business. Is this about your brother?” He asks her as she sits down in the same spot she sat in the last time she sat down here.14

She looks at him, “No, this is about something else… Something that is even more important,” her face turns red, knowing that he’ll see it, but she couldn’t help herself, her nerves are starting to get the best of her.15

“Oh? Something that’s more important than your brother, this must be really important,” he sits across from her, sensing her stress levels getting higher. 16

“Well, you know that I go on nightly runs, and I try to go somewhere new that’s close to familiar ground,” he nods, “well I drove out to the Willamette River on the opposite side of Wallace Road, and I stayed out of site, don’t worry, but when I was running through the trees,” Kizzy pauses, and it seems like she can’t speak, Wade moves over next to her, and sends those soothing feelings to her again to calm her down. “I saw this creature that I have never seen before. It was ripping apart a woman, at least I think it was a woman, and I couldn’t help her,” Kizzy’s eyes filled with sadness, she won’t cry in front of the Alpha, she swear to herself that she wouldn’t show any weakness in front of him or any other Alpha she meets.17

“Do you remember what it looked like?” she feels the worry through out his house, and she can see that he’s tensing up.18

“Yeah, I haven’t been able to get the picture out of my head; I even had a nightmare about this thing. It was ripping my brother, inside and out,” her throat closes, making her want to gasp for air, but she does it like her father taught her, slowly breath in and out.19

“I see… Was there anything else around?” He asks, sensing that there’s something else that she’s not telling him.20

“Yes, there was a vampire there that night too, and she followed me home last night and came up to me. She acted like she meant no harm, and it seems like she’s the one who sent me the nightmare, I’m not sure if it was to scare me into telling you, or if she was sending me a vision,” she bows her head, hiding her eyes from Wade. 21

“I see… Do you want me to stay with you tonight?” He tells her, knowing that it could be taken in a couple different ways. She knows that he wants her to be his mate because she‘s strong and independent and she doesn‘t want his power, but she wants to stay free as she always has been. 22

“Brandon will be home,” she looks down at her watch, “in like another hour or so. He doesn’t know about any of this and I don’t want him to, at least not yet.”23

He nods in agreement, “You’re right on this one, but I will have to tell the pack as soon as possible,” he pauses for a second, “and if you like, you can stay here with me. I’m going to call the pack here to let them know and I would like you to tell them what you saw, since you’re the one who saw this creature. Maybe somebody will know what it is, and you can explain it more in detail, but don’t say anything about the Vampire, they don’t need to know that there are vampires close by, that would only flare up emotions we don‘t want.”24

“Sounds good to me, but I’m going to have to go home so I can clean some house a little before Brandon comes home.”25

“Okay, that sounds good. I’ll be having the meeting at eight o’clock. Everybody should be home by then,” he pauses, wanting to say something, but he doesn’t, “so come by either before eight, or at eight.”26

Kizzy stands up, putting space between her and the Alpha. “Okay, I will. I’ll try and come over before eight,” as she’s saying this, she starts heading for the door, but before she could leave, he glides over to her in one movement it seems, grabbing her and holds her close to him. He’s holding her face to face, body against body. Kizzy holds her breath, hoping that he lets her go soon. “Wade….”27

“Shh, quiet,” he stops her speaking any longer. “There’s something sneaking around the house,” he whispers as quietly as he can, knowing full well that she can hear him loud and clear.28

Kizzy open her ears up, listening very closely and she can hear the sounds of the grass being stepped on, the smell is familiar but she can’t quiet place it. A few sticks break under someone’s feet, they’re getting closer to the door. The sound of shoes touching the cement for the first time after walking on grass, that sound starts getting closer and closer. Wade releases Kizzy, singling her to hide in the secret passage that’s under his house. As soon as she steps into the door to the passage way, the door opens, and she can feel the relief setting in from Wade, “Hi Daddy, I thought I would surprise you and come over early, I snuck out though,” and on that note, she steps out of the doors to the passage and as soon as Adelaide sees Kizzy, she runs towards her and hugs her, almost tackling her. “Kizzy I didn’t know you were over here! Are you two behaving?” She asks them playfully, knowing that there’s something between them, same as Wade, but Kizzy is in denial about it.29

“Yes, I just had to come over and talk to your dad about something,” she explains, almost going into panic. 30

“Yeah, yeah, that’s what they all say. Daddy is a lady’s man,” she winks at Kizzy, “but he only has eyes for you,” quote a part of The Flamingos’ song.31

“I’ll keep that in mind,” not knowing what else to say. “I have to go though, I need to clean house before my brother comes over.”32

“Well, tell that brother of yours not to be a stranger,” she pauses and then lean closer, “is he single?”33

Wade heard her and glares at Kizzy, “You’re only 17 Adelaide! He’s too old for you!” Which makes Kizzy smile, since Wade is almost a hundred years old, and she’s only twenty-three.34

“Don’t worry Wade, he knows better than to go after the Alpha’s daughter,” he tells him, heading towards the door. “This is my queue to leave as well, I don’t have a lot of time to clean, but I’ll get it done sooner or later. I’ll be back later, and Wade,” he looks up at her, “try to be nice to your daughter, she is only 17,” she smiles at him and he smiles back, letting her know that he’ll be nice, and she walks out the door, waving at both the Alpha of Salem, Oregon and his only daughter.35

She walks back towards her house, almost dreading what the rest of her day and night plans are, cleaning, pack meeting, and talking to Brandon more about the ceremony. She feels overwhelm by everything, it’s all happening at once and it makes her angry, but scared at the same time. When she walks up to her door with the keys out and ready, she hears something to the far left. Her reflexes made her head turn and look that way and she see someone who she hasn’t seen before, but she ignores the person for now and walks inside. She needs to start cleaning.36

She starts with the kitchen, putting the clean dishes up and the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. For the first time in a year, she remembers to straighten up the counters and wash them, so they aren‘t sticky and dirty. Soon after that, she starts in the laundry room, getting her clean clothes out of there so she can hang them up and finally put her dirty clothes in the washer. As she waits for the washer to go off, she straightens up the living room, glad that Brandon has been keeping this room pretty clean, by himself, sadly. When Kizzy finally starts to dust the nick-knacks and the tables, the doorbell rings. “Shit,” she tells herself. “I can never do anything in peace.”37

She puts down the rang on the coffee table in front of the couch and goes to answer the door, when she opens the door, it’s the person she saw standing by her house when she got home, “Hello, may I help you?”38

“Yes, I just moved in a couple of houses down, and I was wondering if you had a vacuum that I can borrow, I seem to have lost mine when I was moving,” it’s a woman that only stands at five foot. Her hair is long and black, her eyes are piercing and the weirdest colour that she has ever saw, a very pale light blue, and her skin is almost as pale.39

“Uh, yeah I’m not using mine at the moment, but I will need it within the next half hour, which house is yours?” Kizzy asks as she takes a step outside as she hears the Mustang coming down the road.40

“It’s two doors down, it seems like nobody is home yet, and I saw you walking up to the door but I didn’t want to bother you then because I thought it would seem kind of odd, like I’m waiting at your house,” she smiles at her, and her teeth reminds her of Crystal O’Bree, Kizzy knows that it’s not her. There’s something about her smell that makes her want to trust her.41

She opens the door and steps inside and hands it on over to her new neighbor, “Hey, wait, what’s your name?” She had almost forgotten to ask someone’s name, for once.42

The woman smiles at her and answers her, “Jayda, and yours?”43

“I’m Kizzy, I live here with my brother, who’s just pulling up now,” she points behind her towards the driveway, “he’s Brandon. You’ll be seeing a lot of us, hopefully.”44

“I hope we will,” her smile is almost innocent, but sinister at the same time, she turns around to leave and smiles at Brandon as she carries their vacuum down the steps. He smiles back, but he seems taken back by the idea of someone else having their vacuum.45

When she’s out of sight, and they’re both inside, “Why does a stranger have our vacuum? I thought you’d be cleaning all day.”46

“Yeah… I had to stop by Wade’s earlier and it took longer than I thought, but I did do the dishes and I started my laundry and I was dusting the living room before Jayda, the woman that took our vacuum. Don’t you worry, she’ll bring it back. I can smell a lie from a mile away,” he smiles at him. “Welcome home to a half cleaned house!” She tells him, and he just laughs.47

“Thanks for trying anyways,” he tells her as he plop on the couch. “Work sucked, and I just don’t want to think.”48

“Why, what happened?” Kizzy asks him as she sits next to him.49

“Well, I tried to get the time off from the Garage, but they’re being assholes! I have a lot of personal time off, and Ben is saying that we’re too back up for me to take any personal time off. I should have just lied and said mom was sick or something,” after that last comment, Kizzy punches his arm.50

“Don’t say that! You know everything you say come true in one way or another!” Kizzy pouts.51

Brandon rubs his arm, but laughs at her, “Yeah, you’re right. I could have something about an already dead family member in the hospital.”52

Kizzy smiles at him, “Yeah, like Uncle Falk. He was use to be such a Mr. Know-it-all. Man, I miss that guy,” his expression got a little sad. “He’s the one who taught me about cars, if I had any trouble, he’d know exactly what to do; just by sound. He was an amazing man.”53

“Yes he was. But, that’s a good idea though. Because, you’re going to need all the time you can get off… Since you’re going to have to heal and learn control.”54

Brandon just kind of ignores her, too tired to talk about the changing ceremony, “Yeah but, shit happens.”55

“That’s right, now go on and take a shower. I’m going to order in some food, like I said I would last night. Is there anything special you want? I’m buying,” Kizzy nudges him a little.56

“No, I’m good; thank you though. I’m going to take a shower, and eat whatever you get. I told you when I first got home; I don’t want to think right now.”57

“Alright, then go relax and clean yourself off. I’m just gonna order a couple of pizzas.”58

“That sounds good… Okay, I’m going to take a nice long shower and tell me when it gets here,” without anything else, he leaves and heads towards the bathroom. 59

After he starts the water, she dials the number to a local pizza place and orders two large pizzas, one is a cheese for her, with extra cheese and the other pizza is Brandon’s favorite, triple meat with red peppers on top. They are the only place where you can custom order your pizza, which Brandon likes because he likes to put things on pizza that shouldn’t belong. After Kizzy finishes ordering the pizza, she turns on the TV to give her something to do while she waits for her older brother to get out of the shower and for the pizza to get here. All she does is flip through the channels, trying to find something on, but nothing is. Only fifteen minutes later, she hears the water turn off, and Brandon getting ready to get his pajamas on, a pair of pajama pants and no shirt, “I wish I was a guy, because then I could go around with no shirt either,” Kizzy tells him.60

He laughs at her, “Well, then you wouldn’t be who you are, you’d be Kyle or some weird name like that,” which makes her grin. Only five more minutes after Brandon got out of the shower, the devilry guy is here, “Well, that’s quick. They must be kind of slow today.” Brandon goes and answers the door for Kizzy, and all she can hear is the price, twenty-five dollars.61

“Brandon, I got this. It’s my turn to pay anyways,” she runs towards the door and hands the devilry guy thirty dollars, “keep the change, and have a nice night.”62

“You too, Ma’am and thank you,” and then he left to either go back to the pizza place or to go on his next devilry. 63

Brandon takes the pizza and set them on a table that their mother got them, it’s made out of oak wood, she thought it’d be a nice idea to have a least a good dining set for company, which meant when she came over. Brand sits across from Kizzy, both with their pizza boxes in front of them. They both ate in silence, enjoying the nice moment together. Brandon was still eating his pizza when Kizzy stopped eating, figuring she should save some for lunch tomorrow. Right then, Brandon puts down the piece with the most red peppers on the slice, “When is that meeting, and can I go to see what they’re like?”64

Kizzy looks at the clock and it’s only six thirty, “it’s at eight, but I want to try to go over early. You can’t come to this one, there’s too much going on that you can’t know about quite yet, when you go through the change, you won’t have the choice in the matter,” she smiles at him, trying not to show the fear she has about the next ceremony. “I’m hoping it won’t take long, so I should be back before ten o’clock.”65

“Alright, and I have one more question,” a smile lights up Brandon’s clear green eyes.66

“Oh man, I’m scared to even know what it is… But I have a feeling I don’t have the choice in the matter.”67

“Pretty much,” he smiles, almost innocently. “I wanna know when you and Wade are going to get together?” His grin gets wider and wider and he sees Kizzy’s face go bright red.68

“Um, I don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s the Alpha. I’m not even on his radar. Plus, I don’t like him like that,” Kizzy’s throat is closing up, and she wants to run away, but she knows better than to run away from her overly protective older brother.69

“Yeah, but I’ve seen the way he looks at you and you at him. I’m not blind. You two would be good together too, since you both are so damn stubborn,” he almost wants to laugh at her, but he keeps grinning, making her sweat in her own thoughts.70

“It’s not going to happen… Just because we’re both so damn stubborn doesn’t mean anything. Besides, he’s more interested in Raina, though I think you and Raina would be better together,” she winks at him, trying to take off some of the heat off her.71

“Maybe, but she wants power, that’s all she ever wants,” Kizzy looks shocked and he sees it in her face. “Yes, that’s right I pay attention to conversations too, little miss ease-dropper,” he smiles at her. “Since she wants powers,” he continues, “Wade won’t try to court her because he knows that’s all she wants from him; his power.”72

Kizzy just nods in agreement, “I’ll give you that one but, I still don’t think we’ll even be close enough to have any kind of a relationship, besides that he’s the Alpha of the pack. That’s as for as that goes,” she tries to look away to hide her face from going red, but she knows her brother saw her face already and he just keeps smiling at her.73

“Yeah, we’ll just have to see about that,” he looks over at the clock, “well it’s almost time for you to go to the pack meeting.”74

She looks over at the clock and sees that it’s almost seven o’clock and sighs, “Yes it is. I should probably go clean up and go then,” she tells him as she stands up, and starts to walk to her room. She can feel his eyes on her, watching her every movement, seeing if he can pick up something about the meeting that he’s not allowed to go to, at all.75

Kizzy closes the door and leans against it, thinking about what her brother, Brandon, said about her and Wade. After a few minutes, she shakes her head and puts on clothes that are fresh out of the dryer. She button up the red and white button up shirt, and rolls up the sleeves a little so she’ll not be covering her whole arms. She puts her legs through the freshly dried, and fitted nice dark denim skinny jeans she has, might as well be comfortable, she thinks to herself. She walks over to the bathroom, and put a light line of eyeliner on, and a little eye shadow. She takes a final look in the mirror and all she can do is sigh at herself in the mirror. Even though she knows that there’s no point in putting on make-up when all the wolves there don’t even like her that well. “Why god? Why did you have to make me the way I am?” She tells her reflection, and then she leaves out the door, saying a quick bye to her brother before she closes it. 76

Instead of walking, she’s going to drive there since she said she’ll try to be there before everyone else, and if she was going to do so, she was going to need to drive. When she gets into the car, she calls Wade, “Hey, I’m gonna be there in a few minutes. I just wanted to let you know, since I’m going to be a little late.”77

His voice was relax and playful, knowing that she called him just to hear him, “That’s fine, we still have some time. I just want to go over with what to talk about, some more.”78

“Alright, I’ll see you when I get there then. I’ll be driving, so watch out for my car so you won’t jump on me when I get to your door,” teasing him about what happened earlier in the day with his daughter sneaking around to surprise him.79

“Yeah, Yeah, you just get your butt here safely,” and on that note, he hangs up and she can’t help buy smile to herself as she pulls out of the driveway and starts to head to his house.80
