"Hog" Father Rankin Part 2

Another of my dad's stories1

.............................................................2

During my few years at Eastland Elementary my friend Vern and I were a couple of culprits, antagonizing anyone close to us.  In particular there was a girl in the 4th grade by the name of Linda Hogg.  Vern and I would call her Hog.  "Hey Linda can't catch us can ya?!?!?!"  During the recess in the winter months we were teasing her while out on one of the small ice ponds in the school yards leftover from the fall rains.  We would run by and make pig calls like "Here suie suie," or "Here Piggy Piggy."  Then she would become infuriated and push us and scream at us.  We were not smart enough to stay away from her because we thought it was funny when she would hit at us or scream at us.   In the process of trying to get away one time when Vern and I got too close we collided with one another.  She jumped on that opportunity to grab us both and knocking us down on the ice.   With us laughing and rolling there she happened to throw me on top on Vern because we were still busting up laughing because of what we had called her.  In our hilarity she decided to make it a tragedy.  Where upon she jumped into the air and unto me and vern and the ICE broke.  The water gushed in on all sides on Vern and I.  She was quick enough though large to jump up and not get wet.  Vern and I were still lying there in the middle of the ice pond drenched to the bone and trying to struggle our way out.  We finally managed to escape the ice pond and the bell rang and recess was over.  As we came in our teacher met us at the door.  Knowing what took place she scolded both of us for being insensitive towards Linda and directed both of us to the Principals office.  Mr. Henderson was not at all impressed by the water trail that we brought into his office.  He preceded to explain that your actions have consequences not only did it include we were both drenced to the bone he then suggested that we bend over grab our ankles to which he applied the Board of Education to the seat of knowledge.  It wasn't bad enough that our pants were cold and sticking to our skin but when he spanked us the sting was that much greater.  Vern and I learned two valuable lessons that day.  One was Fat people move faster than you think. Two Don't ever get caught because you pay double the penalty.  We were then dismissed to go home and get a change of clothes.   3
