I'm so lucky...

1

The sun had just set behind the huge mountains to the west and some part of me knew I would have a good chance at getting something to drink tonight. I walked out on the balcony of the abandoned house I stayed at and searched for a target. There was someone walking a dog about half a mile away, someone was just getting home from work in the house down the street, someone was closing the blinds in their house…2

And someone was running. I closed my eyes and focused on the heart beating blood through that body. It had a strong, steady beat that was exactly what I liked. I turned around quickly and put on my cape and a pair of old jeans and headed down the old stairs. The heartbeat was all I heard as I caught up to my prey. 3

She slowed to a walk, probably nearing her house. I followed as close as I wanted without being afraid of getting caught. I was able to appear invisible to everyone except the one I was hunting, very useful when I moved closer to the city. I watched as she worked her way up a driveway about a mile away from my house. I smiled at the thought of an easy catch. She opened the door and walked inside, greeting someone after she closed the door.4

I sat right outside the window of her room on the upper level of the house, waiting for her to fall asleep. It was nearly midnight when she finally fell into a dreamless sleep. I walked through the wall into her very girly room. The walls were painted a light pink and every now and then there would be a flower, a rainbow or something bright and colorful. I always found my prey interesting right before I took them back to my place. I had a horrible habit of going through their room.5

I walked over to the girls closet and found that she really liked skirts, tank tops and high heels. She had a paper on the door that showed every way that she could wear her clothes while still matching in some way or another. I couldn’t help but laugh. This girl was all about fashion and looks, which would mean her blood would be very sweet. 6

The girl shifted in her sleep, rolling over so that she was facing me. Her makeup was smeared down her face and her hair was shooting out in all directions. I laughed again. This was probably the only time she allowed herself to look like this.7

The girl moved over again and it sounded like she woke up. Her heart started going a bit faster and her breathing was less shallow. I took the blankets off of her and quickly stuck a needle in her arm, putting my favorite drug into her system. Her eyes popped open and she turned to me.8

“Hello Violet. I’m Jake, care to go on a quick walk?” I watched as the strong drug took effect. She swayed from side to side and smiled as she stood up, taking my arm. She started walking towards the door, but I stopped her.9

“Why don’t we fly? It’s much faster.” She considered that for a moment and laughed at the thought of having to walk somewhere. She opened her window silently and steeped out onto the roof. I went through her wall again, but she wouldn’t notice. The drug I gave her made it seem like she was still dreaming. Doctors use it to calm people who are afraid of hospitals, doctors, needles, or anything health related. She kneeled on the roof and jumped off headed right to the ground. I jumped after her and grabbed her hand, making her fly just as well as I can. 10

We flew around a bit and the drug started to hit her nervous system, making it hard for her to talk or move. I decided that was as far as the drug needed to go and I flew us back to my house. She looked around the house amazed. She tried to walk over to the gold plated coffin that was in the middle of the room, but her legs wouldn’t cooperate. I helped her over to the makeshift bed that was in the corner and sat her down. She looked up at me and half of her face turned up into a smile. I smiled back, but not for the same reason. 11

“You look beautiful tonight violet.” I said as I put my hands in hers, pretending to dance with her. She nodded and tried to smile again. She had little control over her hands, but I felt her grip tighten.12

“I’m so lucky I have you.” I said as her hands got weaker in mine. She started having trouble keeping her eyes open and keeping her body upright. She only had moments left before the drug overwhelmed her brain, making it think it didn’t have to do anything anymore.13

She sat there for another couple of minutes, struggling to have control over herself. I watched as her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell limp against the bed. I kissed her lightly on the lips before turning to her soft neck. I sunk my teeth into her right as her heart failed.

Author notes

This is my first contest entry. I thought I would give it a try because everyone seems to like my other vampire stories a lot.

This idea kind of just spilled out on the page by its self. I was trying to go for something dark and creepy, and this is what I got.
