Anakire's nightmare

“You pathetic minuscule of intelligence. You mindless pity dog! How dare you come before me and beg for forgiveness!” Anakire exclaimed with a fury that a volcanic eruption could only be a fraction of. She cocked the magnum in her hand and aimed carefully for his heart. She wanted him to feel the true breaking that was erupting within her own body. “To beg before me after you killed MY daughter and maimed my son!” She flipped her sleek jet-black hair over her shoulder revealing her muscular build and her blood shot crystal eyes. “The life he has is hard enough. To take away his twin sister and to take away his ability to talk is a punishment I wish upon no one. The sickening thought that those beautiful children were conceived with you, is a gut wrenching one. Your apologies will not bring back Anna. They are not enough” Anakire pulled the trigger and watched Maddox’s body slump to the ground. 1

Anakire felt a sudden grab she opened her eyes. “Hey sweetie” Her new lover smiled down at her. It was just a dream of a memory of that awful night. “Are you okay? You were crying in your sleep.” Comforted Grace. After Maddox, Anakire had never been able to find love in a man’s arms again.2

“Yeah, It was just a dream. I’m okay. I love you Gracie.” Anakire reassured her that she was fine. Grace herself had lost a daughter in a way. Her daughter Kari was 24 now and hated her mother for being a vampire. She hated the Russian colony. So when she turned 18 she ran away to Ireland. Grace tried hiding it from Anakire but she knew the pain. After all, her 13-year-old Anna had been murdered by a man she had once loved. Such a sad tale that was. Her son Byron was Anna’s twin and is 15 now. 2 years had gone by and yet she still cried at night. No parent should bury their child. Vampire or not.  Anakire swung her feet over the edge of her four-post bed and opened the black lace curtains that surrounded it. She picked up a candle and walked to the mansion’s library where she pulled out her great grandmother’s diary. She began to cry again and her companion Sira, a female white tiger whom had been there since her birth, wrapped herself around Anakire trying to comfort her. 3

Anakire was not guilty for killing Maddox, after all he killed her beautiful daughter Anna. Anakire held a hatred for him but she was also sad to see a once great man poisoned by the fingertips of evil. He had been a well-known vampire.  The animals and colony had loved him. Something had happened to him that night.  He had come home while Anakire was off getting groceries and he beat Anna, a 13-year-old girl, to death. Then when he had moved onto Byron’s room, Anakire had gotten home just in time to save him but she was not quick enough to stop him from slitting his own son’s throat. What had attacked Maddox’s brain to do such a thing? Anakire would never know. After she got him out of the house he begged on his blood stained knees for forgiveness but Anakire was not going to give in. She put one in his heart and one in his head. The next night the colony held a ceremony for her daughter. 4

It was a lovely ceremony. Her daughter had never looked so beautiful and at peace. A thirteen year old boy who could not speak and had now lost his twin. He dressed up in a suit and still had the ugly bandage around his throat. He, unlike his mother and father, was human. The twins had been conceived before they had been turned but the colony accepted them anyways as one of their own. Many times since then Anakire had wondered if Byron was better off dead, but then she would shake her head of those thoughts, ashamed of herself.  His way of communicating or talking was through a arm laptop in which he would type what he wanted to say and the computer would say it in his old voice.  It had always been hard on Byron that his mother was a vampire, but he always remained happy with life. He went to a normal human school. 5

Then there was Grace, Anakire’s new love. After Maddox, Grace was there to help with everything. Anakire instantly fell in love with not just her beautiful mind but also that sexy curvaceous body. Grace was an extravagant blonde with great round green eyes. She had freckles that still dappled her pale face and long legs. Many times Anakire would question her luck at getting someone so angelic and perfect. So now only Anakire, Byron, Grace, and a family friend whom Anakire raised since his parents died in a plane crash named Landon.  Landon was a witch and he had always been around the colony doing things for them during the day so they wouldn’t have to ride out on their horses beneath their thick cloaks to protect them from the sun. He was 16. Only a year older then Byron now. The other occupants of the mansion were of the animal kingdom. There were 3 white tigers,2 panthers, 4 goats,a few sheep, 15 cows (only 3 dairy), 25 chickens, 15 cats, 2 great Danes, 3 pit bulls, 6 rot wielers, 5 miniature dachshunds, 2 labs, 3 border collies, 6 Clydesdales, 4 Morgan, 2 Arabians, and 3 quarter horses.  The animals were just as much family as any of the people within the home. They entered the house as well. The green room has a grand door just for them.6

The glass windows of the house had UV protection to prevent the vampires within from burning alive. It was the lovely year of 2003. In her opinion Russia was a beautiful place. Especially in the winter. She put back the journal, unable to focus anymore.  A pang of depression hit her heart when she saw a picture of her teaching Anna how to read Tarot. It was tradition for the whole family to know tarot and witchcraft. Anakire’s crystal blue eyes clouded with tears and her body began to shake from the waterfall like explosion of tears that fell from her eyes. 7

Grace appeared and started to stroke Anakire’s head. Her thick English accent raked its way through her whispers “Do not blame yourself my love. Anna knows you did the best you could. She loves you my dear. You know as well as I do, she wouldn’t want to see you in such a state. You are stronger than this. We are stronger.” Grace knelt down and took Anakire into her arms and kissed her. She held her close and listened to her soft weeping. Byron walked in and hugged his dear mother. He wished he could show her just how happy he truly was, but his mother’s stubborn depression denied his every attempt. 8

She was getting better though. It had been 6 months and 14 days since her last breakdown. He was grateful to Grace for taking such good care of his mother and for her patience towards her. Sira growled at the others to back away while she pinned Anakire down and licked her till she giggled like she had done as a child. Anakire smiled again and stood up. She petted Sira between the ears, kissed Grace and Byron and headed to the kitchen to begin breakfast as the sun began to rise. 9

Landon was coming down the stairs yawning, his blonde hair a mess, he said “Hey Mamsey.” 10

“Hey Laddie” replied Anakire. Mams was his nickname for her since he was not yet ready to call her mom. Maybe one day though.  She turned on the stove and sent Landon out to retrieve the eggs from the chickens while she kneaded the dough for rolls. Grace Chopped up steak and Byron set to work peeling and dicing potatoes. Even a vampire likes the delicacy of food. The minerals and vitamins kept one strong.  They were able to last longer without blood this way. When Landon returned with the eggs she set to work frying up an omelet with steak bits in it. The dough had risen so she placed it within the oven and started frying potatoes as well. 11

While the food cooked Byron went out to milk the cows and feed the chickens.  Only way Grace and Anakire could go outside was if they wore their thick cloaks. Do you know how hard it is to feed animals with those things on?  They were still able to exercise the horses and go to school meetings during the day though. Anakire had always been able to convince people she merely had a skin disease and was terribly sensitive to the sun. She always teased Byron about his tan skin and how he was turning on her.  He would do his silent laugh. At first he was incapable of making any sound, but now he was able to make little squeaks. The doctors say that maybe one day he will be able to talk once again. Anakire hoped so with a high fury.12

There was a sudden nock at the door. Anakire heard Grace scream. Anakire ran to her. There stood Maddox….13
