"Her eyes were so beautiful for what she was, the deepest of greens.... Most vampyres have red eyes no matter what happens, but hers stayed green unless she fed," the man said.2
He sighed softly, standing up and looking towards the village.3
"Why do you know so much about my mother?" I whispered, watching him intently.4
"She was my mistress, I did as she told me to do, I loved her for it, for saving me," he replied slowly.5
After I stared at him, inquisitively, he looked back at me to silence me before I spoke.6
"There was once a time where Vampyres ruled the world, where humans were mere meals to them, and to the lychans... the lychans protected whom they wished, either the humans or the Vampyres..." he stopped, looking to the distance, a land I never set foot on before, towards a place that he gave the feeling off as home.7
"There was one night that the Vampyres formed a mob to destroy the lychans who protected the humans. Your mother was young, and followed behind them, against the will of her father, the Lord of Vampyres. When she saw me, she knew I had no part in the vampyre slayings... and protected me, saved me from the slaughter of my people.8
I would forever be in her debt. Since I never had to save her life, my debt to her has passed down to you."9
I looked at him for a long while, then whispered, "What do you know of my father?"10
"That story is for another day. Now, you must rest, then tomorrow I shall prepare you for our journey."11
Journey? Where to? I wondered, but I wouldn't ask, for the whiskey had made me tired and I hadn't ate in days since my mother left.12
And with that, he disappeared from sight, I went to my tent and fell fast asleep.13
