Apocolypse, Ch.1

"Breaking News! An outbreak of a recently discovered virus has caused thousands of deaths in the past four days! This horrible discovery has been thought of as the 'End of the World' to many... but the strangest side effect of it has all scientists baffled. Simply several minutes to 24 hours after the body dies from the virus, it reanimates and begins to become violent towards the noninfected.
"Authorities warn everyone to stay indoors, board up windows and doors, and stay safe until they can get evacuation plans made. I repeat: everyone, please stay indoors!"1

Raine turned off the television. "It's finally here! I can't believe it! This is going to be so much fun!" she exclaimed, grabbing her black messenger bag and her cell phone. She quickly began dialing the small flip phone, hoping to catch her boyfriend before he left his house.
Ring, ring, ring...
She prayed she wasn't too late.
"Hello?" a somewhat deep male voice asked after the fifth ring.
"Alright, so are we meeting up now, or am I going to have to go solo for a while?" she replied, an amused and sarcastic tone in her voice.
"Well, I think I'm going to need some time to pick up some people. I'll be headed in your direction in a little."
"Too long; I'll keep this phone on me, and figure out a way to get over there, mmkay? Love you, good bye!"
"Love you, too. Be careful!"
She hung up her phone and smiled, placing it on her lumpy bed. As she looked at herself in the full body mirror in her room, she realized she wasn't dressed for the occasion. Quickly stripping, she looked through her closet. A pair of dark blue skinny jeans, a tight-fitting black and a white Jack Skellington shirt caught her eye, and then found their way on her body, aswell as a random black ponytail on her closet floor. She grabbed a few extra pairs of jeans and some of her favorite not-too-loose tops, shoving them carelessly into her messenger bag, along with a hairbrush.
"Now...weapons..." she muttered, closing the flap on her bag to run to the kitchen down the hall from her room.
In the kitchen, a nearby gray-purple towel from a water spill the day before sat next to the sink; a perfect case for the knives almost in her possession. She placed it on the counter near the kitchen utencil drawer and opened the drawer. Her hands quickly rummaged through the random items in it, placing anything sharp she could find ontop of the damp towel.
Once the amount of her found items was satisfactory to her, she tied the edges of the towel together, knotting them together like the makeshift bag of a typical television hobo. 2

"Good luck, you all!" she announced as she dashed to the door, grabbing the car keys for her mother's black Expedition SUV. She quickly tied her shoes before anyone in the house could realize she was leaving and dashed out, her bag thumping against her hip lightly.
She opened the door to the SUV and climbed in nervously, setting her bag down next to her. Putting the key into the ignition, she pulled out of the dirt driveway, the vehicle jerking underneath her, causing her nerves to be severely on end.
"Why didn't I ever try to get a driver's license, again...?"
