“Abigail watched the sun dip low behind the ocean horizon. Off into the distance she could see her castle standing tall and proud. She sighed.1
“When will my love return?” She questioned herself this again for she had asked herself this since he left. Her and Stephen were supposed to have been getting married but he had to go out to sea to fight in a war against the country across the ocean. The once clear light water turned slowly black and dark. Sighing once again she leaned against the Oak tree growing on the cliff over looking the Sea. 2
Suddenly there was the sound of footsteps in the distance coming closer. Gracefully she pushed herself into a standing position. A messenger carrying a letter ran toward her.3
“This is a letter from The King.” He panted.4
“Thank you… Don’t you have a horse?” She asked taking the letter from his grasp.5
“I did…but it passed out on the way here.” Abigail watched him go then turned toward her letter. It was white with a black ribbon. 6
Cautiously she opened it and read it. She dropped the letter and cried softly. For in the letter is said:7
“Dear Lady Abigail,8
The news of Stephen has returned and it turns out that he has died in an ambush a week ago. We are dreadfully sorry about his departure.9
From,10
General Jason Kennedy.11
Abigail cried for a long time before sitting up and leaning against the Oak Tree. For even though the letter stated that her Love was dead she wouldn’t believe it and sat there in the same spot day after day waiting for him until she died. To this day if you listen closely you can still hear the soft sound of Abigail Cloud morning over her Lost Love. The End.” Melissa finished the legend and sat in silence as the rest of the girls watched her closely, listening to every word she said.12
“Is it true Melissa?” A girl with curly red hair asked.13
“Who knows.” Melissa answered.14
“ I don’t believe it. I mean honestly who could possibly believe a childish ghost story like that?” Said a girl name Trisha who had hazel brown eyes and dark brown hair. 15
“Believe what you want. I'm going to bed.” Melissa yawned and crawled into her tent. A girl named serenity put out the fire and did the same.16
The girl with curly red hair and a girl named Suzie crawled into their tents leaving Trisha alone in the dark.17
Trisha, Melissa, Suzie, serenity and Mary had gone camping on the same cliff Abigail had died on.18
Trisha sighed and went over to an old tree and watched the waves hit the shore then withdraw again.19
“Its just a ghost story she told herself. “ 20
The moon now hung still in the dark sky. Trisha then feel asleep at the foot of the Oak tree. In the middle of the night she woke up to the touch of silk along her arm. She opened her eyes and noticed a white blanket covering her body. Trisha Sat up and saw a women in her 20’s standing by the edge of the cliff. She wore a crimson dress with a long white lace running down the center. She wore silky belt with a few diamonds studded into it. Her face was hidden by the shadows. Her hair was long and curly. Is was the color of fresh brownies. It reached her waist and onto of her head was a crown of silver.21
“Who are you?” Trisha asked her cautiously.22
The women didn’t reply only peered off into the distance. Trisha repeated the question.23
“Excuse me? But who are you?”24
“I am nothing but a stray spirit who comes and goes wondering when her love will return.” Said the women in a soft voice. It seamed she was talking more to herself then to Trisha.25
“Why are you here?” Trisha asked.26
“Did I not just answer that? She answered still not looking at her.27
For a while they sat in silence. The women didn’t speak a word and Trisha had a million questions running through her head. Finally she asked,” What’s your name?”28
“Abigail…. Lady Abigail.”29
Then she was gone.30
