Ruby's mother died while giving birth to her, and her father, Sir Edwin Corlith, disappeared in the Northern icescapes. She is left alone with her two stepsisters, and stepmother, Lady Patricia.1
Lady Patricia is concotting a plan for epic power that will enable her to perform the ultimate vengeance against the demons of her past. Unfortunately for Ruby, when her father's body is found frozen, and deactivated, his suspended life becomes involved, and she is in the center of it all.2
Lady Patricia promises to resurrect Edwin on the condition that she gives her access to her entire inheritance, and starts a new life on a distant continent when her father is back.3
Ruby is sent to wait for her father under the roof of seven accomodating dwarves, while Lady Patricia moves her plans forward by setting up seven temptations for Ruby to give in to - to perform acts that impurify her soul with each of the seven deadly sins:4
Gluttony5
Wrath6
Envy7
Lust8
Sloth9
Vanity10
Greed11
Ruby does not realise she has been hypnotised into giving in to these sins when she sees them, and, to Lady Patricia's advantage, each of the seven deadly sins are prone to one of the seven dwarves.12
While she waits, she meets Lucillius, a man of noble birth hiding his identity, and they fall in love. When Lady Patricia employs her secret admirer, Willow Nightsawe, to seduce Ruby, Lucillius is driven into the arms of Lady Patricia.13
The dwarves find out that Lady Patricia is up to no good through a web of sub-plots that involve spies and betrayal, and Lady Patricia's plans are halted. She must return to Ruby and, for the first time in their lives, gain her trust, before Edwin's time runs out...and Lady Patricia's.
