As much as I hated the fact that my mother left me, I couldn't help but realize that there were people watching. Or were they people. I couldn't be sure.1
Standing on a hilltop, staring down at the village that lie before me, I couldn't believe how alone I truly felt. The tears began to well up in my eyes. As they started to fall, I reached up to wipe them away.2
Sensing something near me, I turned, raising my fists, ready to fight, my hair whipping around in the wind. Looking with my eyes, there was nothing but forest, but I could sense that there was something, someone watching me from beyond the trees.3
Sneaking around slowly, careful to not make a sound, like my mother had taught me, I went in search of the person watching me. 4
After a while, I sighed and started back to my campsite at the far end of the village. Walking slowly, touching every tree I passed, I realized how dark it was going to be that night. 5
As I got to the campsite, I saw smoke billowing in the skies around my tent. Running into the clearing, ready to fight, I saw a man, sitting peacefully by the fire, stirring it just barely to keep it burning.6
"You have no need to fear, Princess," he said quietly, turning slightly to indicate his recognition of my arrival. 7
"Yes... you are a Princes, Trilliana. And I'm assuming you don't know anything about your family," he continued. "Please, sit down, Highness"8
Standing, still prepared to fight, I inched forward slowly. "Only if you show me that I can trust you."9
He turned and looked at me, his eyes were entirely black behind his dark brown hair that barely allowed me to see his eyes. I instantly, at that moment, knew what he was. A lychan warlock. Sensing the disturbance within my spirit, he held out a glass of whiskey to calm my nerves and motioned towards a seat, where I sat and took the glass from him.10
He sighed softly and looked into my eyes.11
"Would you like to know the story of how you came to be, Princess?"12
Nodding softly, and taking a sip of the whiskey, I sat staring at him in silence as he began.13
