Fun Times: Part I

Alarm. Alarm. Ughh. Stupid ALARM. I shot up out of bed immediately and shut off my clock that wouldn't shut up.1

I jumped back into bed and refused to wake up all the way. I was so tired...2

When I opened my eyes again, I glanced at the clock automatically. Hm. 9:30. Late for me. I stretched and got up.3

I spent most of the morning on the computer. Chey wasn't online. Or Kim. Or anyone.4

That kind of worried me. Mom said that both my little sister Cara and I could bring one friend along strawberry picking. I'd asked my cousin, Cali, and my friend Katie, but they'd both had to back out.5

Megan and Chey were at a workshop for their summer counseling jobs at the local rec field, and I didn't know when they got out. 'And,' I thought with a giggle, 'I don't want to call them right in the middle of it.'6

Even Stuart couldn't go, he had a cold or something.7

By the time Cara had her (and my) friend Jess over, I headed upstairs to shower. I texted Chey, unsure what else to do.8

I giggled when I got her text back. I invited her along.9

After a seemingly awkward exchange at the Town Hall where the workshop was, Chey was in the car with us and we were on our way.10

We texted each other on the way, to my mother's confusion. One of them said,11

'u r so back here on the ride home. they're annoying the crap outta me!'12

I grinned and nodded. By then we were at the strawberry field in Wilton, a little farm called Ariel's.13

We all went to the stand where the man who's always there gave us the green cardboard boxes and told us where to go. He said to me,14

"Hey, you've been here before." I nodded, unsure whether I could reply without giggling. People always remembered me.15

We picked in groups. Jess and Cara had walked out the edge of the field, barely picking anything. Chey and I went along the rows while my mother trailed a little behind us, sometimes talking to us and mostly struggling to fill up the 6 pint basket she had received.16

Chey and I talked a lot, and I laughed when I saw that my 1 pint carton was full already while hers was only half-way done.17

After I had emptied my strawberries into Mom's basket a couple times, it was full and instead I helped Chey fill her second basket that she would take home with her.18

We still talked as we walked back to the car, joking, gossiping, sharing. Somehow medieval torture was thrown in there. Somewhere.19

When we got to the front, we didn't want to go to the car without paying first. So we just sat on the grass by the guy shelling peas to wait for the others.20

"Oh Allie look!" Chey pointed. A little dachshund dog had come over to sniff at us. We cooed and petted him. He was so cute!21

My mom, sister, and Jess came a minute later.22

"Allie! I was gonna take a picture, I told you that! Then you just-" 23

"Ohhhh! Mom look-it the puppy!" Cara interrupted. Her and Jess knelt to the ground and petted the dog with every bit of their fifth-grade fondness.24

Mom was distracted. "Oh, he's so cute! Who's is he? I replied to a text from Chey, saying,25

'Doggie saves the day!' Before I got another text back, Mom had us lined up for a picture. Right before she took it, my pocket vibrated. I poked Chey in the arm and she giggled.26

After we paid and were heading home, Chey and I texted again until my cell phone died. Then we used an erase pad thingy. I invited her over to hang out at my house, unsure of what the answer would be.27

'IDK,' she wrote. 'I make you sad.'28

'No u don't.' I replied, scribbling away. 'We'll hv fun.'29

'Well,' she hesitated, 'What are we doing?'30

I shrugged. "Hey Mom, where are we going?" I asked.31

She rolled her eyes. "Warrensburg." We all laughed. "Yeah, no duh Allie." Cara giggled.32

"I mean like, can Chey and Jess come over for a little while?"33

"Well..." Mom glanced at the clock. "They can until 6 o'clock." I grinned. I knew she wanted us fed, but the extra hour could be used to wash and freeze the dozens of strawberries in our trunk.34

When we got back to the house, I quickly checked through my online sites, like Myspace, email, and Storywrite. I giggled at a message from Emily.35

I looked back to Chey. Instead of the chair right next to me that Jess had sat in earlier in the day, she was on the floor. I grinned sheepishly and said,36

"Sorry, you gotta be bored."37

She shook her head. "Nope. I'm just thinking."38

"You want to make a Sim?" I offered.39

"Sure I don't care."40

I opened up the window for it, but when I turned to offer the chair (again) to Chey, I found her petting my little dog, Zoie.41

"Ohh!" Chey cooed. I grinned.42

"Oh here!" I got up and went into the kitchen, taking out some bread. It was the end of the loaf, and Mom wouldn't mind.43

"Feed Zoie this and she'll love you for life." I gave Chey the bread.44

She tore off a chunk and threw it to Zoe. She gobbled the pieces down quickly, and we laughed.45

"She can do stuff for you if you ask her to." I watched them, amused.46

"Um...you do it."47

"'Kay. Zoie, sit!" Her bottom hit the ground and she wiggled her tail. It was cute. Chey threw her a piece of bread, that she missed and it hit her on the nose. We giggled as she ate it up anyway. 48

I had Zoie 'dance', 'roll over', and give Cheyenne a 'high five'. After that the bread was gone, but now Zoie, was ready to play.49

Chey threw a little toy bunny across the living room, and Zoe whisked after it. Chey had coincidentally picked up Zoie's favorite toy.50

After that, we chased her and threw the bunny until both Zoie (and us) were breathing heavily and still giggling.51

When we caught our second wind, we threw golf balls at each other, trying to catch them fast without missing any, forgetting the Sims window on the computer.52

That was more fun than you'd think, and we giggled and threw them for a while, and my mom didn't comment the entire time, even when one hit the sliding glass door with a ding! sound.53

Once, when I caught two out of the three golf balls in my hands, the third one came out of nowhere and- CLUNK. Hit me square in the middle of the forehead. It was pretty loud, and I leaned backward, falling to the ground with an 'ugh'. I sat up to find Chey giggling, and we just looked at each other and started cracking up, quite literally ROTFL.54

After we had finally stopped laughing, we threw the balls more carefully, and I spent a whole five minutes watching amused and Chey attempted to get a lost ball from behind the furniture.55

When we finally got it, Mom called,56

"Come on, guys! It's six, time for Cheyenne and Jess to go home now!"57

I looked at the clock. "We chucked golf balls for the entire hour!" I said in disbelief. We laughed at that thought.58

Cara and I went with Mom to drop off our friends. Cara pouted along the way because Jessica wasn't allowed to stay the night. I felt a little sorry for her. She had never had a sleepover with a friend that wasn't a neighbor or cousin. I made a mental note to ask about it later.59

I called goodbye to Chey when we got to her house, and when we found Barbie walking, we gave her a carton of strawberries to have. She and Mom talked for a little.60

When we got home, I talked to Chey as usual. Again I wondered that Megan and Kimmy weren't on.61

I stayed up later than usual, even with Mom and Dad right in the kitchen.62

Finally I had to switch off, mostly because Dad would get mad if I stayed up for another minute.63

I didn't go right to bed though. I wrote in a notebook for an hour and then, tired after a long day, fell asleep.64

I dreamed that Chey and I were running and laughing through Lake George, a village close to ours, being pelted by golf balls and flowers. How odd.65

I woke up, laughing again. Yes, that golf ball had definitely done something to my brain.
