In a world where children die at the young age of 15, monsters are very real, and the divine Kohatsu race tries to bring the brink of their existence back by studying the human race intently. The Kohatsu are very much like the Greek gods, human in appearance but far more powerful and they use it to their advantage. This is not their planet but they have claimed it as such. 1
A group of young tourists, in their early 20's, fall upon a door in Candida that leads them into a world of Aliens and Monsters that are killing the children one by one.2
When the children find the older people they instantly think they are Gods there to steal one of their lives. They offer up their most pure. The group declines and says that they will try and end the childrens' suffering and find a way back to their dimension.
Author notes
The Kohatsu are a race I used when I was running DND games. They are nothing like what I have put above but if you could take the name Kohatsu and change it to your own name I would appreciate it. As I am using them in another story of mine.

I quite like this idea, actually!
It sounds a bit like the Spectres in "His Dark materials" but made into a much bigger story.
