Isabella's Message

While Matayas lay unconscious in the eerie light of the dungeon, Isabella flew hastily towards the town of Sydelle where Layna sat in the corner booth of a small cafe barely touching her sausage and eggs. She could not understand why Matt had wanted her to go, but at the moment it had seemed desperately important to him that his bride-to-be have her help. 1

As Isabella reached the cafe she slid in through a tiny key hole in the door and perched herself by Layna's shoulder, and gently whispered her hello. With a start Layna jumped and knocked her plate across the table spinning around to see who spoke. Seeing no one she looked around confused and with a slight giggle Isabella fluttered up to her shoulder. "Layna, 'tis I, Isabella, Matayas has sent me to help you." With a sigh of relief Layna looked down at her shoulder glad to see that she wasn't crazy. "I knew he would hear me, thank the Creation!" she breathed and took a sip of her coffee. "Issy, I need you to send a message to my father and my sister. Tell them that I am well and that I am in Sydelle, I will be home within the week." Isabella nodded and gave Layna a look that simply asked if there was more. Layna sighed rested her head on her hands and glanced at Issy. "What news have you of Matayas, is he alright?" Isabella shook her tiny head and let out an inaudible groan. "Matayas fares terribly, Daiquiri wears his strength thin. Have you any remedies? I know he speaks so highly of your work" Issy paused waiting anxiously for Layna to answer her. Thinking rapidly she reached for her purse and pulled out a small crystal, handing it it to Isabella "Give this to Matayas, it will increase his strength and help keep his mind clear, but warn him, should she find it the results will be catastrophic." Isabella nodded, minimized the crystal and tucked it away safely. With a smile and a kiss Isabella said her goodbyes and left to deliver her messages, leaving Layna once again alone in the cafe with a thousand thoughts racing through her mind.2
