The Pain of Loneliness

He never once asked for a friend,1

Nor did one ever come to give him a hand.2

Through fights and trials, he faced them alone3

Wielding the same weary, haggard tone.4

He was intelligent, it was no lie,5

Yet, the weight of his intellect was heard in his sigh.6

Loneliness was always his premiere pain,7

Yet he did all that he could just to keep himself sane.8

Be it at school or home his life was the same:9

Plagued with Self-misery, Hatred, and Shame.10

Go away-- I need no friend11

I'll face this pain 'Till the bitter end.12

I need no help with my distress13

So do not bother with your friendliness.14

I need no friend so stay away15

for it may not last anyway.16

-------------------------------------------------------------------17

Through only sheer might, he pushed ahead18

wishing day after day that he would be dead.19

Alone, an island in a sea of pain,20

Fighting so very hard just to keep himself sane.21

Out of school now, on his own,22

Yet the loneliness grew, as did his haggard tone.23

It wasn't long 'till his hard times hit.24

His food was scarce and his clothes didn't fit.25

Yet he stayed alone through this all,26

Fighting off his problems both big and small.27

Go away-- I need no friend28

I'll face this pain 'Till the bitter end.29

I need no help with my distress30

So do not bother with your friendliness.31

I need no friend so stay away32

for it may not last anyway.33

-------------------------------------------------------------------34

At last, a hope, a shimmering light35

came into his life to end to his plight.36

Her hair was ebony in the darkest way37

and her skin was as ivory and bright as they day.38

They shared the torture of loneliness39

and in their own way fought off their distress.40

Together, a hope might finally rise.41

Yet this hope was has more torture in disguise.42

She fell from his arms into another man's43

and he felt his love slip right through his hands.44

Go away-- I need no friend45

I'll face this pain 'Till the bitter end.46

I need no help with my distress47

So do not bother with your friendliness.48

I need no friend so stay away49

for it may not last anyway.50

-------------------------------------------------------------------51

For once he could take this pain no more52

his life had crashed and would never again soar53

His body was found, one day, lying in bed,54

a note in one hand, and a bullet in his head.55

Everyone was shocked when they found his note56

And upon the paper this is what he wrote:57

I never once asked for a friend58

and i was far to proud to accept one's hand.59

I cannot believe my idiocy,60

or that this fate was ever meant for me.61

I leave this note of my regret62

to all of my "friends" that i never met.63

The ones who watched my life degrade.64

The ones whose help i learned to hate.65

Silently they watched as i fought66

True friends, the kind that cannot be bought.67

The people to whom i can never make amends 68

My silent, sorrowful, grieving friends.69

Please come here-- i need a friend.70

I need someone with me in this bitter end.71

I could not fight off my own distress,72

so please i need your friendliness.73

I need a friend, don't stay away74

For this is the end, anyway.

This is my first work, please give me youe opinions and corrections

Wow really good great actually. It was very lyrical and songlike I loved how in the end you actually admit you needed someone even though all throughout you denied the fact. I loved the last line it struck a powerfull chord with me. Agian great job and keep up the good work

He was loner until the end... I like the rhyme scheme. Also, I really didn't see errors... (or was I not looking?) I think this is beautiful, and I like the theme here. 42-44 were sad, but true lines. Nicely written.
