Versus: Chapter five

As Jake and Rebecca spoke with each other, there was a sudden beam of light, and, standing before them was Kayla Midian.1

“Who…are you?” Jake asked. Kayla turned to face him…and stopped short. They had created Jake to be handsome-but this was something she couldn’t have imagined. Actually, it was EXACTLY what she had imagined. Jake was tall, with sweeping chestnut hair and deep, beautiful eyes. Kayla’s breath caught in her throat.2

“My name is Kayla Midian,” she said, trying to keep in control, “I am Ryan’s sister.” As she stepped towards Jake, she smiled. Here, before her, was the most handsome person she could ever imagine. And she had complete control over him.3

“First of all,” she said, pointing at him, “you’re sixteen. Let’s make you seventeen, my age.” Suddenly, Jake felt a shooting pain run through his body as he grew a bit taller.4

“How did you do that?” Rebecca asked, terrified. Kayla turned to face her in disgust.5

“Who are you supposed to be?” she sneered, “Oh yes, his girlfriend…” She frowned, and pointed at Rebecca. “Not anymore,” she snarled, “You’ve been replaced…” Suddenly, Rebecca found that she was rooted to the ground, unable to move and unable to speak. Kayla smiled at Jake.6

“You’re mine, now,” she whispered, taking his arm.7

“Never!” Jake shouted, twisting out of her grasp and backing away. “You two may have put Rebecca and I together, but that’s also how I want it to stay.”8

“You traitorous little rat!” Kayla shouted, “You do realize you’re nothing more than a cluster of letters? That if I just say the word, I can delete you into oblivion?”9

“But you’re not going to, are you?” Jake said softly.10

“No,” Kayla said, smiling, “I have other plans. If you won’t love me willingly, I can merely force you…” With that, she pointed at Jake.11

“All of a sudden,” she said, narrating the story, “Jake found himself madly in love with Kayla Midian. He moved towards her, longing for nothing more than to hold her in his arms…” Jake stopped in horror, as Kayla’s words slowly began to come true. His mind was clouding, and he felt himself moving towards her, arms outstretched. He really did want nothing more than to love and be loved by the beautiful Kayla Midian…12

Summoning all of her strength, Rebecca strained her vocal cords to shout one word.13

“No!” she screamed. With that, the spell was broken. Rebecca was suddenly able to move again, and crumple to the ground. Jake stopped, inches from Kayla, and shook his head to clear his thoughts. Suddenly, he turned away from Kayla and ran back to Rebecca, helping her up. Kayla stood on the sidewalk, frozen with disbelief.14

“That’s impossible…” she finally croaked. “I-I never wrote for that to happen. I never…imagined it to happen…” Suddenly she was backing away from them in fear.15

“Ryan!” she screamed, “get me out of here!” Instantly she vanished, only to reappear in Ryan’s room.16

“What happened?” Ryan asked, as she suddenly appeared right beside him.17

“Somehow…” Kayla whispered, “somehow…they are rebelling.” She turned, her face a mixture of disbelief and rage.18

“Kill them all,” she hissed.19
