"Hi Angel," she meowed. The only sign that I existed were my glowing green eyes, and she shifted constantly to find my paws.
"Are we going to the park again?" she asked. I nodded my head and we started padding out of the thin ally way we were in. We slipped out into the still night and started padding toward thing humans called park. At night we played together, when there were no humans. Soon enough, we reached the park. One star glowed on a long green stick and a few others spread around the grassland. We crept silently across the field until we felt safe.
"Want to hunt?" Halo asked.
"Sure." I flattened myself to the ground and starting sniffing. I picked up the mingled scents of human food, as well as mice. I found a hole were a mole lived and knew this would make a good meal. Halo blinked at me and pressed her paw to another hole were the mole could come up. There was a squeak below surface and a mole came scurrying out of the mound with three babies. I swiftly killed them and gave the mother and a baby to Halo. I had the other two babies. We ate out fresh-kill in silence.
"So, what are we going to do next?" asked Halo.
"Want to play tag?" I asked. Halo nodded.
"I'll be it," said Halo. "One, two, three!" I bounded off, into the warm night. My paws rushed at speed and I rounded a corner were there was a trash can. I hid beside it, even though the smell was bad. Anyway, it would disguise my scent. I heard pawsteps, heavier than Halo's. Fear tightened me, and I slithered into a gap in the trash-can. Debris rolled over my face and paws, and it stunk. Then a paw picked up the bag inside the can. Garbage rolled around me, swishing over my paws. I felt as though I couldn't breathe. The thing threw me into a large metal thing called a "truck" and I hit my head. This was it, I was dead.
I had one plan though. I furiously clawed my way up the debris to the top of the bag. But it was sealed and knotted. I used one claw and tried to cut it open. I couldn't make a gap big enough for me, and my chest tightened as the truck jerked to a stop and my chest tightened. I thought of my mate, Raven, and my kits, Night and Rose, and most of all Halo. She dedicated her life to me, and I knew she would die for me. Then everything went black.
It was only for a few short moments though. A set of teeth bit my scruff and pulled me out of the debris. It was Halo! She smiled, her green eyes gleaming, and helped me out of the bag. We clawed our way up the bags, until we stood on top of them.
"Are you okay?" asked Halo. I nodded. "Now what do we do? Jump out?" This was the only way. We were perched on the edge of the truck, and when it stopped, we jumped out, landing on soft grass. We bounded away from the human who collected the bags, who stared in awe. After getting away, we caught our breath.
"You saved my life!" I said. Halo smiled.1
"Because your my friend. I would never leave you," she meowed. And we found our way to the park, and I found Raven, Night, and Rose. And that's all thanks to Halo.
